ReplyDelete... ah! Yes James, but the English "don't do Irony" .... or certainly don't acknowledge their participation in it. Since the end of the War, vast reserves of resources (oil & gas primarily) have been discovered under the seabed within the Falklands Territorial sea limits .... which I would suggest is the real reason for this "our territory, our people" response. I'd be seriously surprised if it was not (clandestinely) known way back then !! .... it's just another honeypot to be exploited.

I certainly did not contribute to it but I am worried that I might have and any potential monies would be paid to wee guys with beards in England or that their may be misuse of funds by office bearers or non-office bearers or family members. Asking on behalf of a journalist!

DeleteJust watched Starmer's last PMQs. So much sycophantic twaddle. And not a single question from the SNP. Good! As time passes, I'm more and more inclined to the view that the SNP should not take their seats in the Commons. They are usually ignored or put down or ridiculed, and I've no idea how they tolerate it. It is so clearly England's parliament and I no longer think that the SNP's being there serves themselves or Scotland any real good at all.

ReplyDeleteThe blip of recovery for Labour in the polls has stalled. The Green Party (E & W) have survived the Burnham false dawn and their poll numbers are recovering, as are those of the LibDems.
Burnham’s proposed bail out of Thames Water will pure scunner the English public. The boss of Thames Water’s basic salary has increased by 14% in the last year to £1 million (and that’s before bonuses), despite the company failing on all metrics. Their debt now stands at £18.5 billion.
Burnham could assuage the rage by nationalising Thames Water, bringing it into full public ownership, but that’s not his plan. His hauf way hoose will only see taxpayers shore up the collapsing infrastructure of the company while the management and consultancy gravy train trundles merrily on.
If you want to understand the true nature of a Prime Minister, examine their pick as Chief of Staff. Starmer’s original CoS was a spook, his second was Morgan McSweeney (who appears to be some kind of spook hybrid). Starmer’s only real concern was geopolitics (Israel and Ukraine).
Burnham’s CoS is James Purnell, a creature of the consultancy class. Burnham’s premiership will be a new orgy of excess for the City of London.
The Campbell farce continues. He has now published the letter sent by his legal advisers to Police Scotland. Some of its terminology is decidedly non legal. “Breezily dismissed” and “airily set aside” will give an idea of the tone of the letter. It’s a stupid attempt to embarrass the police. It will not go down well. It also gives the Dean of the Faculty and his opinions a status that someone needs to tell him about. I am sure he will be pleased.

The UK government has nationalised British Steel (Scunthorpe) after failing to find a private buyer to take it over.

To be clear, the government refuses to nationalise Port Talbot which is twice the size of Scunthorpe. Scunthorpe has the capability to manufacture plate steel for infrastructure projects and the Military Industrial Complex. Port Talbot does not.
Scunthorpe was placed in the “General steel” group within the old British Steel. Ravenscraig was the sister plant to Scunthorpe, being capable of making both plate and strip steel. Ravenscraig and Scunthorpe were also both in-land plants with the associated transportation costs that came with that.
Ravenscraig was placed in the “Strip steel” division to make a (false) comparison on a unit cost (£ / tonne) against Port Talbot and Llanwern (which were serviced directly by port facilities). The idea was to make Ravenscraig look uneconomic to justify its closure (a decision made by the Chairman of British Steel decades prevous).
This is like saying the labour costs for manufacturing a Dacia are less than that of an Aston Martin, so let’s move Aston Matin production to the Dacia factory in Romania.
Ravenscraig, although it had the same basic production capabilities and output capacity as Scunthorpe, had some specialist plant which gave it a technical advantage. When Ravenscraig closed, the UK lost all capability to produce the steel for submarines (Navy Q1). The UK now relies on France for that strategic commodity. Kind of embarrassing huh?
