In a sense the title says it all, but it perhaps doesn't quite capture the scale of the problem, because data from 2023 suggests 20% of the adult population of Scotland are either not registered to vote at all or are not registered at their current address. Presumably people in the latter category might theoretically be able to vote in some cases but would be much less likely to. So if you can persuade the independence supporters in your life to get registered by the deadline of 11.59 tomorrow night (the 20th), that really is half the battle. Pay particular attention to 16 and 17 year olds, because the 2023 figures suggest *40%* of them were unregistered.
Remember that, as long as people are resident in Scotland, there are very few obstacles to be eligible to vote in a Scottish Parliament or local council election. It's no longer necessary to be a citizen of a Commonwealth country - that rule was changed a few years ago, so Americans, Chinese people, etc, etc can all register to vote by tomorrow night as long as they are resident here. The main group that is still partly excluded is prisoners, but several categories of prisoner can apparently vote - remand prisoners, civil prisoners, convicted but unsentenced criminals, prisoners sentenced for non-payment of a fine, prisoners sentenced for contempt of court, and convicted prisoners serving a term of less than 12 months.
The registration process is apparently fairly quick, although don't leave it until the absolute last minute. The online form can be found HERE.
Have a look at the boring SNP manifesto. Boring for a YESser that is.
ReplyDeleteTheir manifesto isn't about Independence, it barely gets a mention.
Ach there's always Atlas.
DeleteVote unionist then. Or change the record
Deleteyesindyref2 April 19 @ 8.41 PM - but surely every issue is all of a piece with fuelling the country towards being better placed to try and improve voters' priority bread and butter issues = which in turn require to be part and parcel of enabling any transition towards a successful status of independence. Your declaration of any manifesto as being boring for a Yesser seems to imply that you think only of independence in the flat abstract sense, quite separate from the reality of the maintaining and provision of the ongoing basic needs of actual living breathing people.
DeleteYi2/ back moaning again. Read the manifesto again. You missed the main bit which refers to independence
DeleteI didn’t know Americans could vote. How do they prove residency?
ReplyDeleteIt literally says “Choose an independent future for our nation” on the first page in bold letters.
ReplyDeleteBoring is the reality of good stable governance, which must go hand in hand with seeking independence. SNP have taken their eye off the ball and damaged their reputation for good governance in the past four years or so, but still outperform all other parts of the UK on health, education, alleviation of child poverty, I could go on, but you get the idea. Maybe Trump’s style is more to your liking? There is a lot to criticise SNP for. But boring is a pretty stupid criticism. Do you actually have an interest in Independence? If so, SNP is your only route to it, with judicious Green voting in the list where appropriate. Boring I know, but the only way out of the UK.
ReplyDeleteQuite simply, devolution which I campaigned for in 1978/9 and 1997, was a massive step forward. With Labour / LibDem starting the likes of removing bridge tolls, prescription charges, student fees, small business rate relief (at 50%), and then the SNP continuing and greatly extending all those poliicies - and more of their own.
ReplyDeleteBut then the Greens increased their influence leading to the total disaster of the BHA which could have brought Scotland to our knees through economic illiteracy and obsession with minority issues. Swinney has indeed made progress in bringing Scotland back up to scratch, and the fortunes of the SNP.
Salmond brought us, a bit reluctantly to start with, to an Independence referendum in 2014. Sturgeon got distracted, and you can see that with what she concentrates on now - absolutely nothing to do with Independence.
So we have Swinney - is he really into Independence or is it as some believe, something to keep the troops onside? The jury is out. As an example of distraction still going on. all Flynn cares about is having a go at Starmer. What YESser really cares? He's the head of a foreign Government, one which Independence Scotland will talk to same as Ireland, France, The Netherlands, though a bit closer and we share a border.
Devolution has gone as far as it can, and every single policy of any party for the Holyrood election, is restrained by the Union. The only answer is Independence - and as soon as possible and even sooner than that.
I've voted SNP 1 and 2 in 1999, 2003, 2007, 2011, 2016 and 2021. It's the only way if you want an SNP Government. A vote for Greens Is a vote for stupidity. I vote SNP to get us Independence.
Unless I see something dramatic from Swinney and the SNP in the next 17 days, like a plan if begging for a change to the Scotland Act is greeted with the usual arrogant patronising sneer and "NOW IS NOT THE TIME", I'll not vote at all for the first time ever.
The above comment is the perfect example of a useless article who "thinks" he knows the personalities and traits of politicians and then pontificates to the rest of us his opinions on his own imagination
DeleteThe universe is full of idiots like this with meaningless thoughts and meaningless drivel dribbling from they're mouths, they then take to the internet and write them down for all to see how ridiculously stupid they are
The above person is like an untrained Labrador puppy that just stumbles around falling over itself unless or until someone takes the time to train it into becoming a worthwhile dog, which the above person has never had the benefit of such a person and is still stumbling, thus compounding and advertising that fact to the world
In human terms, an idiot, a walking talking disaster who hopefully will never be able to conceive children and create even more of himself/herself
@12:59. Perfectly encapsulated. Thank you 😊 . Oh god... the tedium of those re-re-repeated sermons...
