Majority for independence in new Scot Goes Pop Poll of Polls

We've now had enough post-EU referendum polls on independence to make it worthwhile reintroducing the Scot Goes Pop Poll of Polls.  I'm going to tweak the rules slightly, though.  As before, the headline figures will be based on an average of the most recent poll from each polling firm, but only firms that have reported since the EU referendum (and thereafter within the last three months) will be included.  If a firm has recently conducted both telephone and online polls, the midway point between those two polls' results will be used (in effect each of the two polls will count as a 'half-poll').

Today's figures are based on an online poll from Panelbase, an online poll from YouGov, and both an online and telephone poll from Survation.  I'm excluding the ScotPulse poll showing an enormous Yes lead because I don't think it was an entirely credible poll (and ScotPulse aren't a BPC firm in any case).

Should Scotland be an independent country?

Yes 50.8%
No 49.2%

They'll be gone in a few of years.

That level of Orange Order foaming at the mouth Yoon lunacy has a very tiny readership and will alienate every single SNP voter and anyone with a shred of decency.

It's a lesson Ruth's 'true blue Rangers' party are also going to learn the hard way.

What or who for example will better together consist of and those opposing independence cannot use the argument of an independent Scotland being isolated or on its own given that they are the ones who have taken us out of Europe .
There is no Labour party of any credibility left ditto the Libdems and the right wing English nationalists now in charge at Westminster do not see the maintenance of the UK as important or fundamental as they once did and much of the Brexit camp in England would no doubt see a departing Scotland as an added bonus to leaving Europe . 4. Perhaps - or maybe this latest poll is an outlier. Time will tell. It will take months for any economic damage from the Brexit vote to start to show, and that will play out over the next few years.

Already we seem to be seeing some high profile takeovers of UK companies, and more are sure to follow if the pound remains low.

    5. Yep. The usual Nostradamuses on both sides of the indy argument have been prolific recently, telling us how the coming years are going to pan out based on whatever the most recent poll says. It's admirable how they don't allow constantly getting it wrong to dent their confidence.

Good thing we hardly need polls to tell us that the tories haven't a clue what to do about Brexit and still have no plan.

Or that the Blairite ChickenCoup plotters are anti-democratic incompetents who seem to be intent on destroying everything they touch including themselves.

Fact of the matter is polling was already looking extremely shaky for those who relied on it and it alone, even before the EU ref hammered that point home.

There's a reason canvassing has been and is being pushed hard by the SNP. An increasing amount capable activists doing it as much as they can is quite an achievement. So we'll get a reasonable picture with or without polls.

You should see some of the fruits of that come the Locals next year.

  3. Incompetent Blairites of Mass Destruction #ChickenCoupJuly 30, 2016 at 5:57 PM

Meanwhile the odious Blairites are proving that they are in fact far more stupid than even plumping for Eagle then Owen Smith indicated.

They seem to be hellbent on making Owen Smith's 'campaign' completely untenable as they rush around tory newspapers and the westminster bubble shrieking about forming their own party and breaking away from Labour.

Here's the thing geniuses, there is no way on earth Owen Smith can go through this entire leadership campaign without decrying and distancing himself as far as possible from these extremist Blarite loons.

Just how long do you think Owen Smith will last on the hustings when he keeps getting asked repeatedly why his own supporters want to leave Labour and do not want to respect the result of the leadership election?

Owen Smith will HAVE TO declare very publicly that he will respect the result of the leadership election again and again and again the longer his westminster bubble Blairite 'sponsors' keep their petulant whining and plotting going.

Telling the media that they won't respect the result and will start their own party simply screams to Labour supporters that they are undemocratic careerist weasels who have no interest in the Labour party.

The part that is pure hilarious genius though is that there are already 80 or so Labour MPs (from the original coup) who are drifting back to Corbyn and who kept well away from Smith and Eagle as it became clear just how batshit crazy and undemocratic some of the Blairites were.

That number is only going to increase as the ChickenCoup plotters make it abundantly clear their only interest is their own careers and dragging down anyone stupid enough to be near them after the leadership election.

It's also very probable that all their talk about forming a new party is just that, talk. Sure, they are going through the legal motions and they might even find a handful dumb enough to disavow the Labour party.
However, these are the same Blairites who simply didn't have the balls or guts to stand against Corbyn themselves. It's common knowledge that the most vehement of them are cowards. (as Chickenhawks and Bullies tend to be) They are fine talking about breaking away, but they have ZERO chance of taking any significant number of Labour MPs away from the Labour party if they are too scared to do so themselves.

Labour MPs need to believe the ChickenCoup plotters, and that's a wee bit of a problem, to say the least.

It's a matter of trust and no matter how much some of the Labour PLP don't like Corbyn it's on a completely different level to then ask them to leave the Labour party altogether - get branded, despised and ridiculed forever afterwards for doing that - and put all their hope in a handful of Blairite weasels who never had the balls to challenge Corbyn directly and who wouldn't know how to be honest and trustworthy if their lives depended on it.

One way or another it comes to a head when the leader is elected.

There will then be no possible excuse for the Blairites to keep plotting without ensuring they will be out on their arse and deselected with every possible justification and cause.

So it's really just a question of how many others they take with them into oblivion. Sure doesn't look like more than a handful right now, if even that.

So who pays? The jokes have certainly indicated they will not put their hands in their pockets and pay additional tax. And who will lend that kind of money which has to be paid back with interest.?

    https://medium.com/@katebuffery/despite-his-protestations-owen-jones-has-taken-sides-145b071fe4ad#.gzbv6i4vb

Despite his protestations, Owen Jones has taken sides. The choice at the moment is between Corbyn or Smith. Jones doesn’t want Corbyn as he is. And Corbyn’s not likely to change himself to fit in with Jones’ suggestions as to who he should be (having rejected some previously). The upshot is that Owen Jones is desperate to point out holes in Corbyn and show the world he is right to want those changes. And this all helps Owen Smith.

Jones attempted to hole- point in a youtube interview a couple of days ago. He didn’t manage to make a dent in Corbyn so he’s now pressing more questions in a blog, without the distraction of Corbyn being able to answer them.

Owen Jones pretends not to mind that his advice is being ignored, but shouting out long and hard about his credentials and banging on about the areas where he sees Corbyn as sorely lacking (even if, like a prosecuting adovate he raises them as questions), indicates that he hopes at least some of his readers will mind on his behalf. He’s not the first person in the bubble to discover that the fact that Corbyn is ‘decent’ and ‘listens’ doesn’t mean he’s just a vessel waiting to be filled by those who ‘know better’.

And Jones’ blog looks like the work of man who knows he ‘knows better’ and feels unfairly spurned. He clearly hasn’t engaged much conscientious thought — he is being true to himself by voicing his opinions even if they damage Corbyn. He has no obligation to put right the proven media bias against Corbyn (which he brushes off as readily as Corbyn’s most fervent detractors).

And there is a hypocrisy in his attempt to add weight to his criticisms by, on the one hand bigging up his credentials in supporting Corbyn, whilst on the other adopting the hackneyed ploys of every MSM detractor to undermine him.

For example the glib comparison of JC with Foot (but no mention of the ‘Falklands effect’ of course). Or his suggestion that Corbyn’s not been visible enough in speaking out about hate crimes post Brexit. (In fact Corbyn did so, but MSM reported that he’d ‘lunged.’ at a female journalist. So his speech wasn’t reported — and she then clarified on Twitter that the lunge had never happened!) And Jones even takes up the much used quote of the ‘Corbyn supporter’ who said ‘winning is not important’— but omits the caveat of the original, ‘if we’re going to offer the same policies as the Tories’.

    (cont.)

    1. In raising the question of ‘media strategy’, Jones again follows the MSM lead in undermining the relative importance of social media —even though it’s influence in building Labour support is undeniable, and it’s widely recognised as having won Obama his victory. By contrast he concentrates on the importance of MSM and seems keen to blame Corbyn for a number of the problems he’s having — which is odd as the real problems: the bias, prejudice, partiality, collusion, hostility etc. were experienced in parallel by Sanders in the US. But Jones wants us to see Corbyn’s media strategy as the problem. We ‘must’ question it? Now…..I can see that Corbyn has done well to concentrate on the ripple effect of social media. And I can see that the real problem is in media bias (which Corbyn seems to manage reasonably well and which doesn’t get to be less of a problem just because Jones is clearly bored of hearing about it). But to understand the leadership media strategy in any detail they’d have to be accountable to us for it in detail. It is ridiculous and divisive to encourage the membership to want to micromanage the leadership in this way. Especially as they are being asked to do so by someone who feels that he deserves to be more personally involved. The irony is that if Owen Jones were really driven by wanting MSM to work as well as it possibly can, he is better placed than any of us to make a strategic and positive contribution by redressing the imbalance.
But strategising for Corbyn’s victory, is something that Owen Jones prescribes for Corbyn and ordinary supporters but not for himself. Constraints and restraints on Corbyn — but Jones must be able to write what he likes.
There are other questions. They can all be answered in equivalent terms. With equivalent irritation at Jones’ arrogant assumption that they cover areas we haven’t thought about and that we/the Labour leadership, rather than Jones have more thinking to do. This isn’t a dress rehearsal. From outside the bubble a huge number of Labour members, have judged Corbyn to be the best possible option to guard and promote the democratic socialist agenda, which is why we have given him the democratic mandate. If you truly believe in democracy and in socialism Owen Jones, ask not what Corbyn or Corbyn supporters should be doing for you — but what you should be doing for the movement. You have a choice to make between putting your shoulder behind Corbyn or doing the same for Smith. There isn’t a third option in which you call the shots. At the moment you’re both weighing down Corbyn’s leadership, and placing yourself above it.

The most pertinent thing about Owen Jones plaintive cries from inside the Guadianista Bubble isn't what he says, but what he glaringly fails to say.

Consider, For all Jones doomsaying and "edge of the cliff" rhetoric if Labour were truly at an existential crossroads like Jones says then the most startling and hilarious thing is that somehow, despite Jones claiming all this, he still can't bring himself to support Owen Smith!!!

What a fucking dagger to the heart that is to the inept Corporate Lobbyist and Iraq 'undecided' Smith.

'Yes we could all be wiped out and Labour could be destroyed for generations, but steady on chaps! I'm certainly not going to endorse that absurd rotter Smith! I have my limits after all. He's got no bleeding chance.'

Oh we get you Jones, we get you loud and clear. LOL

Independence shouldn't be won off the analogical equivalent of Archie Gemmill's bum in the last minute of extra time squirming under Jim Leighton's greasy paws. It should be a movement that carries a great majority of Scots, or it kind of loses the fundamental appeal and genesis of the argument.

I think Scots will fall in line and hope to get the best deal for us but I'm not sure it will be the great mass movement of our times. It's a marmite topic.

We know perfectly well what Corbyn and McDonnell have previously said about Indy.

Come Indy2 if they still want to sound like Theresa May and the tories poodles then that is entirely up to them.

They might want to have a look at the shattered and hollow husk of SLAB if they think that's such a great idea.

SLAB are a complete joke now and it also can't have escaped Corbyn's attention that the same Yoon lunatics in SLAB who completely destroyed their own party are some of the most vocal against Corbyn and all his supporters.

Hence the utterly comical sight of the most unhinged of them shrieking about "one Labour party" and making comical threats about 'breaking away'. As if any of them had the balls for that. Hardly. These were the same fools who spat venom at Lamont when she pointed out they were nothing but a branch office and powerless to do anything but westminster's bidding.

One of the funniest aspects of the Blairite ChickenCoup incompetence is that Corbyn knows precisely who the ringleaders are now.

He didn't need a fucking map to lead him to who was briefing journos in the tory papers and some of the media here in scotland that the Coup Plotters were threatening to break away from the Labour party and trying to keep the Labour name.

The SLAB plotters against Corbyn are possibly the most hilarious as they are already locked into a small Yoon cult of politicians, journos and commentators who everyone knows about.

Not very hard to figure out who was behind J.K. Rowling's 'intervention' against Corbyn was it? LOL Nor is it very hard to guess who was prepared to fund the breakaway 'Labour' party the ChickenCoup Plotters were boasting about to the tory papers and media. The Cult of J.K. among SLAB and the scottish media elite is no secret to anyone.

These people are idiots. Simple as that.

The smoking crater in the ground where once there was a Labour party that utterly dominated scotland is the dead giveaway for those who somehow still haven't figured it out.

Owen Jones seems to be clinging on to 'snap election' as his excuse for sitting on the fence throwing things at Corbyn and his supprorters.

Can he really know so little about politics?

Never mind the many legislative barriers and votes needed to make it happen, the simple fact is that a snap election campaign would be about one thing and one thing only.

    Brexit.

How the fuck could it not be?? It is by a country mile the most urgent and pressing issue there is and the tories have no plan.

What in the name of the wee man do you think would happen to a tory party being held together by a thread that then had to fight a general election on an issue they disagree VEHEMENTLY about and still don't know what to do over??

I mean the westminster bubble twits are idiots, for sure, but even they didn't trust May to go to a leadership election involving tory members, never mind go to the country in a GE.

The kippers would rerun the precise same immigration campaign they did over Brexit and Farage would likely change his mind yet again to spearhead it. Just to ensure it's a hard Brexit totally focused on immigration.

It's not impossible the tories would be that suicidal and crazy, just massively, hugely, unlikely.

What scant plans they have for a Brexit timetable quite clearly do not involve a GE just before it or any time soon.

A snap GE relying on Labour to be split when the tory party is ready to split at a moments notice over the one issue that can't be ignored is pretty fucking bonkers even for them.

    1. Whatever might be happening in England with Corbyn in Scotland SLAB aren't even trying anymore.

They have little to no activists outside a few bubbles where they still have an MSP or the one MP. (not always where there is an MSP though)

They were absolutely nowhere during the EU ref campaign which is why it was so hilarious to hear the most deluded of them complain about the SNP winning scotland to remain by a big margin.

It was the same story at the scottish elections.

Huge swathes of scotland where SLAB simply couldn't be arsed to campaign.

It was actually eyeopening to see just how little they cared about even being seen to try. (outside a handful of their media obsessed pundits and MSPs who used their usual rent-a-crowds.)

All the money in the world wouldn't make a difference to them now though the fact of the matter is they are seriously short of cash. It's all catching up to them as was inevitable. Wait till you see the Glasgow SLAB councillors panic. Some have already started.

SLAB membership outside of a Corbyn intake is still shite. The anti-Corbyn SLAB leadership has made sure even if there are new activists they won't be allowed to do anything or have an opinion. The SLAB leadership are also unlikely to beg Corbyn for help though they wouldn't be able to campaign even if they got some.

SLAB are in a death-spiral with some of the biggest Yoon Loons like Smart trying to out Yoon and out 'orange' Davidson's mob. They can't. That only ends one way and they just saw it play out the first time. The next time will be even worse for them.

There really is no way back for them. The current SLAB leadership are hopelessly out of their depth and seem intent on making a catastrophic situation far, far worse.

      Hell mend them.

They were warned time and time and time again but they simply did not listen. They knew better and their media pals assured them it was all a passing phase.

Now most of them are out of a job and the rest won't be far behind. Including their lickspittle media pals.

The UK economy is contracting at its fastest rate since the financial crisis, making an interest rate cut "a foregone conclusion", according to financial data company Markit.

The Markit/CIPS purchasing managers' index that showed activity in the UK's dominant services sector saw its sharpest fall in seven years.
It follows falls in both construction and manufacturing in July.
The index fell from 52.3 in June to 47.4 in July, indicating contraction.

The figure confirmed an earlier flash estimate of service sector output.

Taken together with the manufacturing and construction data, Markit said a cut in interest rates by the Bank of England - expected following Thursday's meeting of the Monetary Policy Committee - was a foregone conclusion.

Policymakers are widely expected to reduce rates from the current 0.5% to a new low of 0.25%.

Markit said incoming new business volumes fell for the first time since the end of 2012.

The pace of contraction was comparatively sharper than that seen for total business activity, and the fastest since March 2009, it added.

Eurozone Economy Stays on Track Despite Brexit
The U.K.’s decision to leave the European Union hasn’t slowed economic growth in the neighboring eurozone, according to a revised measure of activity for July based on surveys of purchasing managers.
If sustained, the eurozone’s resilience in the face of a vote that creates uncertainty about the outlook for its second-largest export market will lessen the likelihood that the European Central Bank will announce fresh stimulus measures when its governing council next meets in September.
Data firm IHS Markit Wednesday said its measure of private-sector activity, known as the composite Purchasing Managers Index, rose to 53.2 in July from 53.1 in June. The final PMI for the currency area was raised from a preliminary estimate of 52.9, at which level the measure indicated a slight slowdown in July. A reading below 50.0 signals a decline in activity, and a reading above that level indicates an expansion.
“It suggests the region saw little overall contagion from the UK’s ‘Brexit’ vote,” said Chris Williamson, Markit’s chief economist.

Even the polls are back where they were - and apart from a wee bit of theatre with the change of Prime Minister, nothing has happened.

It's not quite the armageddon predicted by remainians / nats, is it? There was more drama when I fed the ducks down in lake Windermere, lol!

    Keep trying lads! :0)
