Gideon Through The Looking Glass

George Osborne tonight invoked the spirit of Lloyd George by expressing outrage that "unelected Labour and Lib Dem peers" had blocked his People's Budget, which received the backing of an overwhelming 37% of the public just six months ago, when he didn't actually mention what the contents would be.  However, he did strongly imply at the time that it would involve cutting the income of poor and middle-class people (the clue was when he said the opposite would happen) and that was what made it so darn popular.  The Chancellor is now expected to receive unprecedented support for his drive to prevent unelected, out-of-touch, self-interested socialists from thwarting the man on the street's cherished desire to become considerably poorer.

Meanwhile, new Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn invoked the spirit of Andy Burnham by instructing his troops to vote in a less radical way than the Liberal Democrats.  It's believed it was deemed necessary to "hold back" somewhat to preserve the legitimacy of the Lords, which Mr Corbyn is known to be an enthusiast for.  He is now expected to fight a spirited rearguard action to resist the Chancellor's anti-democratic plan to strip socialist aristocrats of their ancient privileges.

  1. You can't move for ranting labour bigots screaming about their great triumph in not voting against the abolition of tax credits. A few of them trying the lie about the Parliament Act being used if the libdem amendment had been passed. We all know by now that you can only use that act if the HofL defeats a government manifesto commitment.
Why do they lie every single time?

They really are a cult. Truly evil people who will support any action in the name of their party. No matter if it contradicts their position from 5 minutes ago. Labour in right and wrong. Labour uber alles. Ein reich ein labour!!

And Ian Murray can just die. Hopefully on the toilet as he tries to squeeze out Drunken Hovercraft.

    1. What you said about the Parliament Act isn't true - it can be used for pretty much anything apart from the postponement of a general election beyond the five-year term. The Salisbury Convention prevents the Lords from blocking anything that was in the government's manifesto, but that's a self-denying ordinance that doesn't have the force of law.

    2. Tax credits cuts weren't on their manifesto and Cameron during a TV debate categorically denied they would touch tax credits. Hence it's not in the manifesto financial bill.
They won their slim majority on a lie and the Lords were right to intervene.

  3. Why has nobody responded to the ranting hordes moaning that the evil SNPEEE has failed to spend their entire budget and therefore failing to protect poor people by pointing out that the Scottish Government had in fact spent its entire budget?

It's not a difficult concept to grasp so why has nobody smacked the quisling media round the had with the facts?

Budget this year = Block Grant+ £350M from last year's underspend.

    Underspend this year = £350M

Total spent this year = Block Grant.

There was an initial year where the entire block grant wasn't spent. But you can consider that to be funded by part of the £1,600,000,000 that labour couldn't be bothered spending from 1999-2007.

Even that sleazefaced tossbodger of a petshop owner can't worm his way round this.

To divert taxpayers money towards the less well of I suggest getting rid of the following talking clubs. The devolved Parliament/Assemblies. The EU and the Lords. A British Parliament and local Councils served us well. Do you really want Kim Yung Eck to get a pension paid for by the working class who he has no tìme for.

100% James you know it makes sense. The not needed useless politicians should seek job seekers allowance and work for a living if they can find one. I assume Kim Yung Eck was included in your 20%!

  6. The House of Lords is great

It's unelected. So what? look at the dross that the thick public does elect: tories down south, and tartan loons up north.

I would restrict voting to those who could fill in a quiz sheet at the polling booth. In fact, make it a set of 10 questions, for every question you get right your vote counts extra. Would co7unteract my vote being sullied by unwashed rivets voting for people they like the sound of without thinking about it, tory, labour or snp.

  8. Cameron's review of the HoL will no doubt conclude that, since the HoL is not democratically appointed,he will need to pack in another 100 conservative peers in order to keep control of it.
When British Labour are elected to the Commons (albeit a distant prospect) they will conclude that they need to appoint another 150 Labour peers to counter the Tories and when the Tories are subsequently re-elected........
I see your 100 Tory peers and raise you 150 Labour ones and so on.
For the likes of Cameron and Osborne, the HoL is only an undemocratic institution when they cannot control it.

The Tory HOL during the steel nationalisation bill were very mischievous for purely dogmatic reasons however the present HOL whether you like them or not are doing the decent thing. An elected second chamber is required which I would suggest is half the size in numbers as the Commons. I would get out of the EU and abolish the Scots/Welsh and NI Parliament/Assemblies. Bllions could be saved for the public services. They are all useless talking shops.

It must be a Labour supporter after all the were the turkeys voting for a early Christmas.
