Burnham's TIME-BENDING hypocrisy: "It's fine for us to consider overturning the 2016 EU referendum result because that was TEN YEARS AGO, but we won't let Scots change their minds on how they voted in the 2014 independence referendum because that was BASICALLY LAST WEEK"

An audio podcast version of the above video can be heard HERE, and will soon be available on Apple Podcasts HERE.

"New exhibition to challenge perceptions of Mary Queen of Scots"

It's good, about fashion mostly, but much more needs to be done to correct the history as falsified by the victor. Even that article says: "and was executed on February 8, 1587, after 19 years as a prisoner of her cousin, Elizabeth I of England"

No, she wasn''t executed, she was murdered, and brutally so as well. How could she be "executed" for treason to England, when she had been Queen of Scots?

Slowly Scots history gets corrected, but very slowly and timidly. I was at Lochleven Castle recently and it's such a sad place (even though Bruce used it as his Treasury), but all Scots should go visit. Same as Inchnahome though that's got a good restful atmosphere.

Historic Environment Scotland is having trouble at the top, but the normal people are great. Join and help preserve Scotland's history.

    1. I'm not sure "executed" is the wrong terminology for someone who was in England for decades and subject to the jurisdiction of the Queen of England. I take much more exception to the recent description of William Wallace as a "Scottish rebel". He wasn't a rebel against the English King, he was in fact himself Guardian of Scotland - the de facto head of state of a sovereign country, and thus Edward I's direct counterpart.

    3. Yes I agree about Wallace (who wasn't betrayed by Robert the Bruce in real life of course). But Mary was a prisoner of Elizabeth the moment she set foot in England. And in Lochleven Castle she miscarried twins, something many accounts don't mention for some odd reason, but some others claim she was raped by Bothwell after turning down marriage to him, and was virtually forced to marry him, to her doom.

It suits the Union better to consider her guilty of adultery and "Treason". After the Jacobite '45 (and before), Scotland's records were burnt wholesale, and history rewritten to prevent any chance of a similar scare.

There were many victims of character assassination, another being to my chagrin, Bobbin' John who I wronged for years. History is only just being corrected, piece by piece. And it still happens - look what the Unionists claim about a "generation", whereas Salmond actually said "once-in-a-generation opportunity".

You state that Burnham might attempt to re-enter Europe not by applying for Full Membership, too Electorally risky and would probably be "Black Balled" by at least some of the 27 Members .... but through association in EFTA.
However if I understand the Rules for Application to join this group, the EFTA Members have to AGREE to this application .... and given the UK's track record I'd find that a stretch !!!

  9. I agree with this assessment and believe it demonstrates that Nicola Sturgeon’s leadership deserves praise.

Her case for Scotland’s right to determine its own future remains, in my view, the canonical standard against which every other pro-independence politician should be measured up.

It was a core tenet of Nicola Sturgeon's that, if reconsidering the European Union referendum is acceptable because circumstances have changed, then reconsidering the independence referendum must be equally legitimate.

This concept was fully implicit in the analysis she put forward into the public domain in the independence space.

Any contrary position requires an explanation that goes beyond convenience for Westminster.

Nicola Sturgeon understood this democratic principle with a consistency that her opponents of today have failed to acknowledge or match, and with a flair for communication that remains without parallel.

I remain wholeheartedly supportive of her contribution and regard her presentation of the case for Scottish self-government as the most persuasive of all the alternative arguments that have been put forward along that dimension.

The SNP should continue defending this position and James is right in his implicit exhortation that John Swinney is to be encouraged to do so.

The previous referendum result was valid, but it cannot reasonably constitute a permanent prohibition on further democratic choice.

Scotland deserves another opportunity, post haste, and Nicola Sturgeon deserves recognition for insisting upon and pressing forward that fundamental democratic right during her tenure as SNP leader.

And the sheer hatred and loathing by him and most yoonionists of THE most universal constitutional state on Planet Earth - Independence - is truly astounding to behold.

As most unionists consistently moan about 'the cost' of 'subsidising' Scotland within this sham of a so-called Equal Union, there is only one logical reason for not removing that 'cost' by letting Scotland go and it is that that whole premise is based on a tissue of WM lies designed to hide the fact that it is England which cannot survive without Scotland and her resources, not the other way round.

It is fear of that fact which drives all unionist PMs after Cameron allowed Indyref which scared them shitless in the last few days before the vote and which caused the barrowload of lies and fearmongering (admitted by Better Together bosses afterwards) to swing that vote in their favour.

    1. I agree that refusal of the English to respect Scotland’s right to choose exposes the hollowness of their commitment to equal union.

The English have dismissed Scotland’s democratic wishes whenever they become inconvenient.

If the English sincerely believe Scotland is an intolerable financial burden, their determination to prevent independence deserves serious scrutiny.

Scots should reject the assumption that the English knows best and demand an honest debate about resources, sovereignty and accountability.

English politicians like Burnham, Starmer and Farage deserve criticism as their positions are unhelpful in the independence context.

Scotland’s future should belong to Scotland’s voters, without permission of the English!

      Very good points, well made.

I can actually understand the English position in all this.

Since the Act of Union, English people have continuously been told that not only the 'smaller' nations of the UK could only survive with the support of WM/England to prop them up - indeed every single colony of the British Empire were consistently fed the same lie until they all broke away and found that they could be successful independent countries in their own right.

Those ex-colonies have now fully recognised that WM lie for what it was, but unfortunately there are still far too many living in Scotland who not only completely ignore WM's history of lies and deception (the 30yr burying of 'secret McCrone Report being a relatively recent example) but actively play along with it.

For those folk I have nothing but utter contempt.

A few years ago, there was an extremely comprehensive report published which stated that WM/UK Govt had deliberately asset-stripped India of approx £14 Trillion over its period of colonisation, whilst simultaneously convincing the Indians that they could not survive with the support of the benevolant UK.
Lie after lie after lie spouted from London.

WM has turned its asset-stripping eye to Scotland over the last 5 decades or so and will keep doing exactly that until we break away from it for good.

It is a business model which has always worked for the UK Govt and they see no reason to change it.

Thankfully, our younger generations in Scotland have now wised-up to WM' bag of tricks which explains the pretty consisten Yes-majority recent polls.

Remember Gove's secret Scottish Polls which have never been released?

WM already knows they will lose another Indyref.

All they can do is stall the inevitable.

Sturgeon along with Swinney promised indyref2 for many years and raised money on the back of that promise for a ring fenced fund. The SNP Treasurer claimed at one point it was “ woven “ into the accounts. Somebody at some point then spent the money ( see John Swinney for details). Sturgeon also got it declared illegal for the Scotgov to hold the referendum she/he/they/it had promised. This has all the hallmarks of a scam.

No referendum and no ring fenced indyref2 fund. David Francis thinks this is ok - he must be a Britnat.

Lets not forget her other achievements. Net zero by 2045 still sits five years ahead of England, and hate crime law still covers LGBTQI+ people better than in England. Of the 22 Indy Polls since 1st Jan this year, 16 have YES in the lead with only 6 showing a NO lead.

    Very consistent leads for Yes.

    1. On checking again, it was 15 with Yes leads, 6 with NO leads and 1 50/50 draw.

      Just to be fully accurate.

Still very consistent leads for Yes.

  29. I reckon unless there’s major civil unrest regarding the independence question and not the Islamist invasion, Westminster won’t give a monkeys fart what any poll says about a yes lead as they and they alone have the power to ignore said polls. So what are the SNP going to do about that then.

No problem with Islam🤣🤣🤣🤣 get real

    3. I have family who have lived in London for over 40yrs now and I will believe them way more that the obvious crap you have been swallowing.

As for innocent airliners - remember this one:

'This was an international scheduled civiluan passenger flight from Tehran to Dubai via Bandar Abbas that was shot down on 3 July 1988 by two surface-to-air missiles fired by USS Vincennes, a United States Navy warship. The missiles hit the Iran Air aircraft, an Airbus A300, while it was flying its usual route over Iran's territorial waters in the Persian Gulf, shortly after the flight departed its stopover location, Bandar Abbas International Airport.

All 290 people on board were killed, making it one of the deadliest airliner shootdowns of all time, the deadliest aviation incident involving an Airbus aircraft of any type.'

      Christian violence once again.

    2. He won the only election which matters, the Scottish election and by doing so, he ensured the the SNP has been in power continuously for longer than any other political party in the history of the UK and, by next year, in the whole of Europe.

Phenomenal achievement which seems to annoy all the right people on here and elsewhere.

Swinney is also the most popular Scottish politician with the public and regularly wipes the Holyrood floor with his tenth rate yoonionist rivals, particularly Offal.

    5. @6:45

You're applying first-past-the-post conditions to a PR election. Outside of a FPTP context, there's no consensus that "winning" means getting a majority of seats. By your definition, no one has ever won a Holyrood election (except that one time) which is a wee bit silly

  48. No UK PM is ever going to grant an independence referendum again.
Cameron did it for the 2014 referendum, because he thought there was zero chance of a Yes vote. No PM is ever going to take that chance again, and risk becoming forever remembered as the person responsible for breaking up the UK.
That is basically where we are after the Supreme Court verdict.

  49. John Swinney has put cash into police and a large justice budget while Scotland keeps more officers per head than England. On social security he has kept the child payment and help with bills. On infrastructure he has backed homes, rail and the A9 and A96.
