DeleteThey'll only concede one now if it's overwhelmingly obvious Scots want one and not allowing one would cause civil disobedience. They're not going to give it for the sake of a normal electoral cycle. There is a path to state hood for us but I cant see if on anything less than 50% of the vote in an election and basically all the seats in a Westminster election. Its not going to happen on 30 odd percent of the vote in an election.

A bit over the top, maybe, but in the old-fashioned cold war terms of "spheres of influence", that is something the West would not like to happen, and perhaps the best way for them to prevent even the remotest possibility of that happening would be - to recognise Scotland's right to self-determination themselves - and PDQ at that.
A lot could happen before the next UK General Election. Interesting times.
