I believe The Republic Of Ireland has about 40 ferry links to the continent (Portugal, Spain, France, Belgium, The Netherlands and Germany) with some level of EU assistance.

I think there are two routes from Ireland to Spain, and one or two to France. If you are in Scotland, even when there was a ferry from Rosyth to Zeebrugge it was quicker to drive to Hull for N. Europe, and Portsmouth for S. Europe.
ReplyDeleteWhy would anyone operate a ferry from Ireland to Germany when you can drive most of the way there in a straight line? The width of Britain and the length of Denmark x 2 are in the way if you are on a boat.

For instance Scotland is often our second favourite football team. We may come across as being anti a lot of things, but anti Scottish is not one of them. (I am English but have lived in Scotland for 40 years.)

What if Labour sought to govern as a minority administration? This would avoid concessions to coalition partners; concessions which would include a second independence referendum. The Tories could pass the Labour budget with some amendments towards defence spending. It would protect their pweshios union. The Permanent State and the Security Services would be happy. Reform UK would wither on the vine (as they inevitably will as they are a one person vehicle and Nigel won’t be around forever).
Labour voters (and Tories to a lesser extent) would be livid, but Burnham would be protected by the Permanent State and rewarded lavishly in the future. Burnham is less a creature of the Security Services than Starmer, but that wouldn’t be difficult, Starmer literally had a senior MI5 officer as his first Chief of Staff.
Labour would work with reform and the tories before the snp and greens. In the 70’s that was the practice of labour /tory.
