If Burnham has created a crack in the Constitutional dam, you can bet your last penny that wee Dougie will be racing to the scene with nuclear bunker grade concrete.
ReplyDeleteIf the UK Government does not provide an internal means to expressing our self-determination, then external means need to be sought. There are several initiatives doing just that in view of the intransigence of the UK Government and its instrument, the UKSC.
ReplyDeleteThe converse of that is if the UK Gov does provide an internal route, it weakens the case for any external route, like UN, ICJ.
So it's always possible someone had a word in Burnham's shell-like and he's being clever. That's the potential down side of this. Is it likely? I don't actually think so - he would need to be far more specific, and detailed.
From the National: "ANDY Burnham has written to John Swinney to say another Scottish independence referendum remains "off limits"."
DeleteWell that is genuinely thick. It draws attention completely to the UK State denial of internal self-determination for Scotland.
OT - in other news: "Armed police and military personnel to conduct training drill in Cambuslang"
ReplyDeleteYeah yeah, of course it's just a "training drill".
I think this has been blown out of proportion.
ReplyDeleteIn any case, if polls are to be believed, there’s little appetite for a referendum any time soon. I think it’s fair comment to say most Scots are more concerned with other issues than the constitutional question.
I think its fair comment to say most Scots will vote YES if the constitutional question is put.
Delete7.11 ‘other issues’ ? like the ones spun by the unionists parties, Westminster and their media in Scotland, you are wrong, their is a massive ‘appetite’ in Scotland, not just for a referendum but for Scottish Independence, that is, full autonomy for our sovereign nation and we will have it quicker than you spin!
DeleteComplete and utter bull from anon@3: 46am!
DeleteKC Stop posting about Scottish Independence on a, for Scottish Independence blog? Ye couldnae make you up!
DeleteIt’s the level of propaganda I can’t take. It’s just ridiculous.
DeleteKC.....the spangle-brained fuckwit of SGP.
DeleteKC at 12.36 pm .... can you take the level of relentless unionist propaganda in the (so called) Scottish newspapers, day after day after day?
DeleteIt’s only unionist propaganda in your eyes 4:08. Supporters of independence don’t like to hear or read the truth.
DeleteKC like a lot of Britnats is a liar. He lies to
DeleteHimself all the time.
4:37pm,
DeleteYou live in denial. You need to accept it’s over. If you think there’s even the slightest chance of you getting your independence anytime soon, you’re living in cloud cookoo land!
In the words of the great Sir Winston Churchill on VE Day,
Advance Britannia, long live the King.
Who's Sir Winston Churchill
Delete5:38pm is clearly a bit of a saddo!
DeleteChurchill was one of the greatest, arguably the greatest, statesman of the twentieth century.
The real question is who is KC? Answer - he is a phoney who claims he is Scottish. Naw he is just another wannabe English saddo who will never be the real thing. So like Indians when India was part of the British Empire who called themselves British he can only claim to be British. He thinks idolising Churchill makes him more English. You will never be English KC. Just a second class Britnat.
DeleteAnon@10:38pm, I’m proud to be Scottish and British, but you can stick yer independence where the sun disnae shine ya numpty.
DeleteNo proud Scot can be a Brit. Even using the description Brit tells us all what you are. Feck off back to the land of the Mail and the Express, pathetic wee saddo.
DeleteScotland is indeed as free as Northern Ireland. The catch is that final authority for a border poll is in a Secretary of State's hands, so from the interior of No 10 it doesn't look any different. They're the ones defining what a majority is.
ReplyDelete7.13 Which No 10? The one in the Deep South or the one in Englands North?
DeleteIn answer to your question James, the answer is no.
ReplyDeleteTime to strike John. THIS is the unexpected opportunity. Will you
ReplyDeletea) shout from the rooftops to the international community that Scotland has been granted the right to self determination and insist Burnham ratifies his statement?
b) give a few anodyne statements to the media and let the moment slide into obscurity by next week?
I know what Alex Salmond would have done.
2.43. It is Burnham Bollocks just the same as Starmer’s shite only this time around the butchers apron is out of their colonial bag!
Delete2.43 Granted? Such a doff of the cap!
DeleteIt’s option b) for the perpetually useless Swinney.
DeleteAnon 2.43 "I know what Alex Salmond would have done". You've been to a seance ?
Deletemaybe the english will offer us a fair crack of the whip - howsabout 3 referendums, 10 years apart, and you need to win 2 out of 3
ReplyDeletefor such an important matter a supermajority of 66% or 75% should be desired; this is 75% of all Scots (who have ever lived, including those abroad)
to facilitate matters, all voting will be by postal ballot, which shall all be counted in an RAF hangar in Norholt
YOU CANT SAY FAIRER THAN THAT YOU JOCKS
playing with a straight bat and all that
I presume that's sarcasm
Delete12.23 You really had to ask that? Really?
DeleteI was pretty sure but it is the sort of crap that some unionists come up with
Delete1.05 fair do’s!
DeleteCan't remember which unionist politico said about the 2 out of 3 idea. Have definitely heard unionists come up with the super majority crap. Obviously the count at an RAF base is BS
Delete8.38am anti democratic bollocks. “ by some “ yeh the devolutionists in the SNP.
ReplyDeleteI find it amazing that some independence supporters ( majority SNP members) still cling on to the hope that Perfidious Albion will act like a democratic country. They will not - they never have been. They grab what they can and hold on to what they can for as long as possible. Nowt but pirates.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely spot on.
DeleteYou're bang on there. They never did anywhere else and they won't here.
DeleteCurtice is a unionist. 50%+1 is all it needs, that's democracy. What would curtice suggest we do at 59% or 58% or... We put up with the system we have for everything else so why change it for independence? The only reason is the fear of losing.
ReplyDeleteThe country is evenly split on independence. Until polls indicate a sustained and decisive majority in favour, nothing’s going to change.
ReplyDeleteMany fear considerable social unrest in the event of a narrow Yes vote. Westminster isn’t going to risk that. The polls would have to consistently show bigger Yes leads than we currently have, and some polls even put No ahead.
12.33 So you actually believe that Westminster has the Scottish people’s best interest at heart by sheltering and protecting us from the clear consistent, in the polls, in our voting for, Scottish Independence? Thank heavens for the ever nurturing teat of England Parliament from us ‘nastynats’!
ReplyDeleteAnon 12:30 so, are you saying there should be social unrest because we're not getting independence? Or is it just that the unionist side are more liable to go violent at losing a democratic decision?
ReplyDelete12.33pm is KC.
