Scotland immune to Burnham effect? SNP buoyed by stellar subsample result in what is effectively the first poll of the Burnham era

  1. Looks like Andy Burnham has gone out to the private lobbyist, think-tank and PR sector to find his Chief of Staff.
James Purnell is the former Labour MP who quit as Secretary of State for Works & Pensions because Gordon Brown was too left wing! Unbelievable right?
Purnell was Chair of Labour Friends of Israel.
In 2013 he was headhunted out of the blue to become Director of Strategy at the BBC. Permanent state connections of wot?

Plus ca change plus c'est la même chose.

  2. Five MPs on 5% of the vote. The LibDems in Scotland need Proportional Representation like they need hole in the heed.

  3. I've just seen that the SNP gained a seat from the Lib Dems this morning in the George St/Harbour Ward of Aberdeen City Council. The seat became vacant when the sitting Lib Dem councillor went to a Holyrood Regional List seat. The poll seems to have been reflected in the first preference votes cast.

  4. The less the substance to Campbell’s claims the longer his fantasyland posts get. It’s not £400,000 now. There is another £700,000 now. Where it came from and where it went are a mystery. Silly billy Stu needs your money.

  5. Not trying to be sarcastic but when I heard Purnell's name mentioned I associated it with David Cameron"s government.

  6. I smiled when I saw Canada is allowed to participate it the Eurovision Song Contest! With Australia and Israel left it should be a tight contest.

  7. Pint sized poll from BMG Research (sample population 1,508) also conducted in wake of resignation announcement by Starmer, (field work 23rd to 24th June) tends to confirm Find Out Now result.
Reform UK lead down to 4% with Labour in clear second place. Greens are main losers, reduced to 11%. No Scottish sub-sample available.

The point is not whether Burnham will deliver on his extremely vague promises, (he won’t) but whether he can maintain the pretence that he is attempting to do so long enough to recover Labour’s position in the polls and remove the threat from an increasingly scandal prone Farage and his army of incompetents.
Burnham is a Blairite at heart. If he delivers on his ambiguous mutterings on utility behemoths at all, it will be to bail out Thames Water. His model is not a full return to public ownership, but a strange half-way-house where the public assumes the burden of infrastructure and the consultant class make a handsome profit (disguised as management fees). The bail out will of course be yet another subsidy to the SE of England at the expense of the rest of the UK.

  8. "Nicola Sturgeon not only put Scotland on the map in Britain she brought us to the attention of the world, nobody, not one single soul ever did as much for our country ever before as her"

Just in case you're wondering how they're doing over on WGD.

  9. Listen if Aby Burnham was in charge all the songs would have to be by George Formby or Victoria Wood and we'd all have to pretend they were hilarious.
