With less than three months of the year to go, the 2025 Scot Goes Pop fundraiser is still short of its target figure. If you'd like to help keep the lights on during the several months it will take me to find out whether an alternative funding model is viable (realistically it could be a wait of around four months or more), card donations are welcome HERE. Or, if you prefer, direct donations can be made via PayPal. My PayPal email address is: jkellysta@yahoo.co.uk
Many thanks to everyone who has donated so far.
Can a principality even go for independence ?
ReplyDeleteThe principalities of Liechtenstein and Monaco look pretty independent to me.
Delete12.33pm I don’t think you understand the concept of self determination and a people’s right to it.
DeleteIt’s England that said it’s a principality. Cymru is a nation
DeleteCyrmru is a nation. That is a fact that 12.33pm could have easily found out via an on line check. Fact not opinion. Next time 12.33pm check your facts before posting is my advice.
DeleteSaying that Wales is a principality is as misguided as saying Scotland is an equal partner in a union
DeleteReform were totally media driven with the media expectation of a win. Their spending returns for this by-election will be an interesting read. That opinion poll with Reform in the lead helped Plaid.
ReplyDeleteHave you covered the Scottish poll in today's Independent? It's mentioned in today's Common Weal briefing. Common Weal briefings usually have me despairing (mostly over Mr Swinney or SNP performance) but not this time. Anyway, it's a Find Out Now poll conducted on behalf of Alba.
ReplyDeleteNo, I only saw it a couple of hours ago. I'll make a video about it at some point, possibly overnight. One thing I will say is that the list results are utterly nonsensical, and they massively reinforce the point John Curtice made last month about the flaw in Find Out Now's methodology. There is no way on earth the SNP are as low as 21% on the list, which means list support for the Greens and Alba is almost certainly being massively overstated.
DeleteI am one of a group of seven Indy supporters who meet weekly and talk about where we are. Six out of the seven are giving the Greens their list vote, myself included. The other is following Swinney’s disastrous strategy. No one is voting Alba. I am surprised they are even registering. But I think many SNP voters who are intent on following Swinney to self destruction are in for a shock. I should say the SNP Constituency Green List has worked successfully for me the last two Holyrood elections. Monumental cock up by Swinney and the party faithful. They have removed Indy from the agenda for the foreseeable future and established a hugely damaging precedent. His strategy, on the face of it, works for devolutionists, but only those stupid enough not to see what Farage will do if he gets in at Westminster.
DeleteToday’s C W briefing is in part frankly delusional. It repeats, yet again, the myth that Alba are at a level which will gain them list seats. They are not. Currently they are fighting for survival, and are being investigated for financial irregularities. The rest of the briefing is all over the place, but it does touch on a significant point. Reform voters (who are mainly the Brexit/reform voters) do turn out to vote. But there is a definite ceiling on the votes they can get, and in anything other than an undemocratic voting system they would never see power. The people who do not vote are very unlikely to be Farage voters. Get them to vote and Farage and his fascist filth can be relegated to the sidelines. He will promptly buggar off when there is no scope for grifting and personal enrichment. Whether the main parties have the ability to grasp and understand this is frankly debatable.
Delete335 Spot the Green supporter!
DeleteI see poor wee Stewie is more than a bit miffed that Reform was roundly beaten by Plaid last night.
ReplyDeleteThat was obviously not what he wanted.
As well as hitting out at all parties EXCEPT Reform, he also suggests that one of Labour's main problems is kow-towing to the 'Muslim Vote' when anyone with a functioning brain KNOWS that it is Labour's kow-towing to the Israeli Lobby, which directly funds their party machine, which has led to their disastrous policies on continuing to arm Israel during the Gaza genocide, denying that a genocide actually exists and bending over backwards to prevent anti-genocide protests in the UK, all of which is now hitting their traditional left-of-centre vote very hard indeed.
Campbell has now morphed into a fascistic, genocide-supporting, Reform promoting piece of trash.
IFSy is going to be so angry with you for saying all this about his hero.
DeleteAnon troll at 3.25pm seems to be happy posting snidey wee comments that are lies. Says everything about his character. He proves time and time again he is a lowlife. Not as bad as GWC but not far away either.
DeleteBBC News - Police investigate 'irregularities' in Alba Party finances
ReplyDeletehttps://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cvgk9xxg982o
Wonder if wee Stewie will cover this?
Are the Police as keen on investigating Britnat parties' dodgy dealings? I don't know and that's why I'm asking.
DeleteAnyone seen a blue tent in Polmadie yet?
DeleteOf course not.
DeleteStill amazes me, though, that quite a few so-called yessers were doing happy summersaults when the SNP were the target of such a probe.
Yes, but it's the party leadership who have called the police in to investigate - big difference to another independence party. And who cares what 'Stewie' thinks? He's just a guy with a blog.
Delete5.44pm it wasn’t the SNP was it. It was just certain people in the SNP. It also seems that someone like you is happy to turn a blind eye to wrongdoing.
DeleteAssuming the threshold for loosing your deposit (5%) is the same for the Senedd as it is for Westminster, the Tories, LibDems, and Greens lost theirs. An upheaval of the political tectonic plates truly.
ReplyDeletePresumably tories voted strategically for reform and most Labour votes went to Plaid. Farages fascist fanatics, aka U Kippers and Brexiteers, are a hard core that will turn out to vote for right wing racist policies come hail or shine. That’s why those who currently are not turning out to vote need to. They will largely be voting for parties that are NOT Farage and his scum crew. Does Starmer have a clue about anything? This past week alone we had the Maccabi Tel Aviv shambles. The idiot Nancy chipped in as well. No surprise. She has a penchant for violence it seems, especially if it involves violent suppression of Indy supporters.
ReplyDeleteNandy's knowledge of the world outside Wigan is quite limited.
DeleteWell done Plaid ! I wonder if they have snidy critics like IfS, Peter Bell, Liberate Scotland and expats like Campbell and the bloke in Catalonia ?
DeleteI didn't realise Basher Nandy was still hoping to batter and bash people seeking democracy. She's in the right party, anyway.
DeleteLet's hope Plaid are not plagued with party drones like 4.16pm who will accept and protect a devolutionist leadership and are incapable of any independent thinking. Away and get the 19/10/23 save the date tattooed on one hand and no ifs no buts tattooed on the other hand to remind you of the SNP treachery.
DeleteAll you trolls do is post snidey wee comments that clearly demonstrate that you are obnoxious individuals.
Righty, this has motivated me to rerun my spreadsheet on the 2021 results, with different values for Greens and SNP on the list vote. The constituency is the same, where the SNP got 62.
ReplyDelete2021 actual list - 2 seats - H&I and South Scot 1 each. Total 64.
2021 just cut the greens in half and the SNP get one in West instead of Greens (Ross Greer). Total 65 would have been an overall majority.
2021 cut greens in half and give that to the SNP instead. SNP as well as West get another one in H&I, and 1 in Lothian. Total 67, and even one to spare for the Presiding Officer.
This of course becomes more likely for 2026 now there's been defections from the Greens to Your Party, who may well lose half their vote on the list?
DeleteAnd who knows, some defections from the SNP as some of the far left move out to the Sultana and Corbyn party, which some SNP voters who are left of centre but not that far left, might be delighted with?
Both parties quadrupled or more after the Ref was lost, with people who "I didn't leave labour, they left me" making big changes to the SNP and Greens, and maybe a loss of focus.
This hopefully will lead to improvements in the behaviour of both Greens and the SNP, while the Your Party whatever it gets called maybe encompassing the SSP, and any remnants of RISE (remember them?) could actually in Scotland become a pro-Indy party of the left but definitely not centre.
With the unweighted support for Indy being 60% or more, it's time to look post-Indy for a change of politics, and perhaps if the SNP seize the opportunity and go pedal to the metal for Independence, YES will get behind them for one more election.
On the other hand, who knows? Ho hum.
I think the strong showing by Reform in the polls leading up to the election polarised the vote between Plaid and Reform with most of the Labour vote jumping to one or the other of these two.
ReplyDeleteLuckily it went for Plaid. There must be lessons to be had for Scotland but I honestly can’t think what they are and I’d be fascinated to hear folks’ opinions - will the rise of Reform help or hinder the Indy vote?
Now we're hoping the Welsh will do the heavy lifting to set us supine Scots free. We are an embarrassment.
ReplyDeleteIs that you again IFS? you're a hard grafter for the British right enough
DeleteGood to see more and more polticians on the Left calling Reform what is really is, a fascist racist party.
ReplyDeleteIn exactly the same mould as Trump, Bannon, Musk and the rest of that garbage across the pond.
Stephen Flynn was 100% correct when he said we must challenge that extreme right filth head on.
No 'trying to understand them', no immitating them, no placating them.
They and their putrid beliefs must be shown up for the dangerous, disingenuous drivel they are.
Anyone who still tries to deny the stinking truth about Farage, his extreme right big money backers and his Trumpian playbook, is either an idiot or a racist fascistic fellow traveller. Either way, they should be derided, exposed and ultimately ignored.
Trump is now clearly intent on overturning or simply ignoring the constitutional block on him serving a third term.
He will demolish that block just as he has just demolished part of the Whitehouse without the necessary permissions, just as he has routinely ignored lawful court orders and just as he has made sure the Epstein Files cannot be fully released because his name and the names of his big money backerswill be all over them.
Trump is now a dictator and Farage is his fanboy over here.
