Nicola Sturgeon cleared

Doubtless there's someone in Bath that will be devastated by this news, but most sensible people in the independence movement, both inside and outside the SNP, will be extremely relieved.  None of us know exactly what has gone on, but the idea that anything good (from an independence point of view) would have come out of the former SNP leader being faced with prolonged legal action is obviously for the birds.

The Peter Murrell case will still attract a lot of press interest, but now that he's left the SNP, and now that he's separated from Ms Sturgeon, and now that Ms Sturgeon is leaving the Scottish Parliament anyway, a firewall of sorts is in place and we're getting a lot closer to the point where we can look to the future for the independence cause without the constant dark whispers that the Branchform monster is going to turn up at any moment and destroy everything in sight.  That's a good thing, not a bad thing.

  5. Announced the week after Nicola said she is leaving formal politics? A coincidence? Perhaps.

Will be interested to see the actual charges against Peter, embezzlement covers a range of things from very serious to quite minor.

The only way that they can prove the money is actually missing from a going concern who has the liability on the books is to issue a section 30 and see if the SNP can muster the £600k. Well Mr Starmer, Are you feeling lucky?

  7. I'm hoping the conspiracy theories on both sides can now end.

One side has been claiming the whole affair has been a British stitch-up since the start designed to damage the cause of independence (if that was the case wouldn't Nicola Sturgeon's fate be left unknown until the Holyrood elections to cause the maximum amount of damage?).

Whilst the other side has been claiming that Sturgeon and her allies in the Scottish Government have the police in their back pocket and have used their influence to ensure that she will never be held accountable for her actions (Likely they'll now claim that Peter Murrell is the fall guy).

    1. Murrell's trial will be the acid test for this. I've got my own thoughts on the matter but not for one second did I believe either Nicola Sturgeon or Colin Beattie would end up facing charges. I will be interested to hear what evidence us presented in a trial in Peter Murrell's case - if one actually does go ahead.

    3. We need to be careful with regard to what is said on here to avoid anyone landing in trouble. All I will say on the matter is that I think that the decision by the PF yesterday not to prosecute either Nicola Sturgeon or Colin Beattie was a bit more than a bit significant in forming my own opinion how this will eventually end up.

She told us on video that the money was still there and anyone saying otherwise was a liar.

Have you forgotten that she had an actual alphabetty in her cabinet and another being her chief of staff but denied knowing anything about them?

  8. As I posted on the previous thread, it came as no great surprise to me that neither Sturgeon or Beattie have been charged with any crime/offence.

I would have anticipated that they would have been charged at the same time as Murrell, had the available evidence warranted it.

The fact that they were not, strongly suggested today's outcome was the most likely.

Murrell has been charged with a singular offence and it will be very informative to discover the exact amount of monies (or value of goods) actually involved.

Main thing is.......Branchform's shadow has now completely been removed from Swinney's SNP and, given that Murrell has now no longer anything to do with the Party, that particular line of attack for the Yoon Parties and their tame MSM has pretty much evaporated.

Of course, the Bath Balloon and his small band of demented followers will probably explode with the usual conspiracy crap they are so fond of, but to absolutely no avail outside their tiny putrid 'Hate Sturgeon' bubble.

The Branchform outcome will also give Sturgeon a relatively clean bill of health, if she wishes to play a prominent part in the run-up to next year's Election.

    Interesting times ahead.

    COPFS spokesperson:

Where allegations are made against people or institutions in which the public have placed trust, it is the responsibility of the authorities to conduct a thorough investigation to determine if there is evidence that criminal conduct has occurred.

We understand public curiosity about this investigation. However, the Crown does not publicly share details of confidential inquiries where there are no proceedings in court. This protects the rights of the individuals concerned who are entitled to a presumption of innocence.

Nicola Sturgeon was the FM of Scotland – the foremost politician of Scotland at the time. She was / is also very well-known internationally.

To spend £2.3 million of public money to have this as the outcome:

The 73-year-old man arrested on April 18, 2023 and the 54-year-old woman arrested on June 11, 2023 have not been charged and are no longer under investigation

is worth every single penny, every brown cent, whatever your party or stance on Independence, or like or dislike of Sturgeon, to remove the shadow over Scotland’s devolved Parliament which many of us fought for.

Until the conclusion of Murrell's Court case, that is what it will remain...an allegation.
No matter what a cretin in Bath says.

    2. Given the Police Sotland have had full access to all SNP accounts for around 4 years and have, undoubtedly, used the services of forensic accountants to trawl through every entry and withdrawal, if Murrell has then been charged with embezzling a sum very substantially less that the £660,000 being banded about, then that amount has not 'disappeared'.

    3. ONLY the Court will decide if there has been any criminality involved and, if so, how much money was involved - and I would seriously doubt that it will amount to anything like the sum being repeatedly quoted.

  41. Nicola Sturgeon is popular in Scotland

*Widely respected for her leadership as First Minister.

*Seen as a strong advocate for progressive policies.

*Maintained high approval ratings for all of her tenure.

She has a positive role in the SNP after retirement:

    *Continues to influence Scottish politics.

*Serves as an inspiration and mentor for new SNP leaders and members.

*Recognized for her contributions to policies on healthcare, education and social justice.

*Advocates for progressive causes like net zero and LGBTQ + even outside of formal political office.

    Many Scots admire her.

Remembered for her strong leadership during crises, such as the COVID-19 pandemic.

How will she get the top international job she deserves without proving by trial she is innocent of everything. Nicola was not responsible for the Lockerbie bombing either. You must believe she is in the clear. Really you must. I like that David Francis as well. Really I do. I really like the word really you know.

    1. There will be no successful prosecution was the statement made by me. Shown to be right for two out of the three people involved today, which means you were shown to be wrong for those two people. Read up on cognitive dissonance you silly billy. The eventual verdict in the face saving “prosecution” of Murrell will in due course make it three out of three. In the meantime where is your apology to N S for the false accusations you and your fellow SNP Baaaad muppets made against her? Your anon reference also flags you up as either one of IFSs other names or one of his wee helpers. Which is it? And remember the apology. Nicola is waiting.

  55. Just heard the tale end of BBC’s Scotcast discussing Branchform. Incredibly two basic mistakes in such a short time period. A woman says Peter Murrell was the SNP Treasurer and the other man says Nicola will
definitely no longer be involved in Branchform. Murrell was Chief Executive of the SNP and Nicola may be called as a witness in a possible Murrell trial.

Where is the missing money David ? Money disappeared when Sturgeon was Leader. She bears this responsibility. Even more so when her husband was Chief Executive at the time. Have the Police stated they have found the money - no! But they have found a motor home on Sturgeon’s mother in law driveway.

  63. Peter Murrell has been prevailed upon to "take one for the team", the understanding being his punishment will be mild.

Everyone else involved escapes, clean. He is like the fraud equivalent of a "lone gunman", acting alone, without any wider connections.

So, we just have to believe hubby was on the fiddle and nikki knew nothing, because she is an incurious type who doesn't stick her nose into what doesn't concern her, like the finances of the party she was leading.

The only interesting thing that could happen (and it won't because they will make sure they have a friendly judge) is if he found himself getting punished far more severely than envisaged, then he might make some speeches, singing like a canary on the witness stand, or if convicted, trying his hand at - writing books. Or maybe he will get sad and take a lot of pills or have a heart attack, common in a man of his age.

    1. Utter garbage.

The reason Sturgeon was not put in front of a Court, was because - after 4 years of digging and sifting through every single scrap of evidence - the authorities found NO wrongdoing or alleged criminality to even proffer a single charge against her.

Therefore, she remains 100% innocent and, as far as she is concerned, there is no longer any 'case' to answer.

What idiots like you and that moron in Bath 'think' is a matter of absolutely no consequence.
      You simply do not matter.

And the only 'smell' remaining, is from the complete shite you keep spewing about a certain Ex-First-Minister who seems to live inside yer wee heid, rent free.

    3. @ Funny Franny

The submission of a report to COPFS 8 months ago very strongly suggests that they believed there was an actionable case against Sturgeon (and Beattie).

If they didn't think there was a case they wouldn't have submitted a report to COPFS. They would just have closed the case and concluded their investigation.

If not then the decent things for COPFS to have done was to announce that right away rather than keep them hanging on.

Sorry to burst your balloon, you balloon.

    4. Dave, you should have just left your post after the first two words. Sums up your contribution to the topic beautifully.

    5. Wrong, you Tit.

It is not the job of the Police in Scotland to decide if there is sufficient evidence to criminally prosecute a suspect.
That is entirely down to COPFS.

The Police merely report the facts they gather to the Prosecutors and from there on, the decision rests with them - as does the time taken (within legal limits) to conclude whether or not to proceed with or drop the case.

That is the system of justice we have in Scotland, with very clear demarcation lines between Police and Prosecutors.

Whether you like or accept that system, is totally irrelevant, pal.

Next time, stick to something you actually know about.

      Ta much

      Delete
    6. Fuddy Franny, you're not telling me anything I don't know. Of course the COPFS decide - that's the process.

But, dipstick, the police wouldn't have bothered with a report if they didn't think there was a case to answer.

But your head's stuck too far up Sturgeon's backside to figure that out.

      I guess that's why you're such a gobshite.
