Why Boris is extremely welcome in Scotland

Just a quick note to let you know that I've written today's online-only National Extra piece - it's about Boris Johnson's apparent belief that visiting Scotland this week will "save the Union", and what past precedents tell us about how likely that is.  You can read it HERE.

I also had a piece in The National the other day about the Olymipc question in the Scot Goes Pop / Survation poll - you can read that one HERE.

  1. Johnson says " we have done everything we can" aye to make a complete bollocks of everything.

  2. Johnson says " I take full responsibility for everything the government has done" well resign now don't wait till it gets to 200k - criminally incompetent.

    1. I am sure he can do his meetings via Zoom as he never meets the general population. He wants a staged TV opportunity. The amount of deaths reported today maybe it is not that wise.

  8. The SNP are failing at the most important challenge facing our country.

We all want the Covid vaccine to be a huge success. But the rollout should be going much better.

On Sunday the number of vaccinations was the lowest yet and the SNP tried to blame their slow rollout on delayed data.

Yesterday’s figures have exposed that claim as absolute nonsense. Vaccinations are no higher than last week.

The rollout should be ramping up, not standing still.

Deaths within 28 days of a positive test per 100k population:
      105 Scotland
      151 rUK = 44% higher

7-day case rate per 100k population:
      195 Scotland
      377 rUK = 42% higher

      First does Vaccinated:
      1/10 Scotland
      1/10 rUK

Scotland's Covid-19 vaccine roll-out 'makes absolute sense', WHO doctor says

SCOTLAND’S coronavirus vaccine roll-out “makes absolute sense”, according to a World Health Organisation special envoy on Covid-19.

Dr David Nabarro told the BBC’s Good Morning Scotland programme that he is “glad” to see people in care homes, who are among the most at risk from the virus, being prioritised.

  9. Only half of Scotland's over-80s have now had a first dose of Covid-19 vaccine.

The latest figures show that 51% of people in the age group have been vaccinated - considerably lower than the 78.7% across the UK as a whole.

The number of people being vaccinated every day has actually fallen over the past week, but John Swinney still insisted that good progress was being made. An absolute disgrace.

  10. The rollout of the vaccine across the whole UK is one of fastest in the world - a sign of what our Union can do together. The SNP in Scotland however are failing at their most important challenge because in their eyes, indyref2 trumps everything else.

They’re putting a referendum first and damaging Scotland’s recovery.

  11. The SNP's vaccine rollout is behind schedule and it's entirely their fault.

The SNP have hundreds of thousands of doses sitting in storage, ready to be used, but they're failing to deliver. The pace should be picking up, not standing still.

Their own plan says the vaccines are available for overnight delivery but GPs are still telling us they're not getting supplies quickly enough.

The Scottish government's explanations "simply do not add up", and that "the programme in England is getting faster while in Scotland it's getting slower".

  12. Is it not time we looked at how the Union benefits England.
England alone within the UK is factually independent. Nobody tells them against their will to have nuclear weapons or when to go to war.
They alone can overrule the other three nations combined.
£Billlions of taxes/revenues are squirelled away to the London treasury annually that should be under the democratic control of Holyrood, yet we seem to be ignoring this when it's clear the Brit treasury will lose out big time when we become independent.
So let's attack the so-called Union as it benefits England.
No nation should rule another, let alone three.
Also, a warning to the SG.
The Indyref is about Statehood not any new Federal offer that will keep us under LONDON rule.
That ship sailed 7 years ago.
Independence is about empowering the people of Scotland not maintaining England's internal Empire.

    1. Yes, when comparing how well covid has been handled, England or the UK can be directly compare to other countries.

Scotland can't. Its a region of one of the worst affected / poorly managed states in the world.

    2. Ramstam - we all know the UK is a shite English dictatorship that subjugates, humiliates and steals from Scotland on a daily basis that cares nothing for the people of Scotland. The question is how do we get rid of the murdering bastards and it ain't following that baloney of a 11 point plan.

  13. Doggie R, are you the new kid on the block? Sent in to try to undermine the correct perception that the Scottish NHS is performing well under trying circumstances.
Try this. Take the Scottish Covid death figures and multiply by 10 to show England's figures.
This reveals that 50% more lives have been lost in England than there needed to be. Shocking incompetence from Hancock and Johnson who ignored the advice of medical experts to instead put "saving the economy" first.
Many thousands lost their lives because of this.
The vaccinations are not "getting slower" in Scotland.
All care homes and support workers are done. Most 80 plus and 70 plus will be complete by the coming month.
The NHS don't need people undermining their efforts with politically motivated misinformation.
DO NOT weaponise our excellent and outstanding Scottish NHS.

The shameful failed conspiracy to imprison Alex Salmond for crimes he didn’t commit – a conspiracy, remarkably, for which nobody has yet been held to account in any way despite the most obvious of grounds for suspicion of perjury, and which the Scottish Government is still frenziedly trying to conceal.

I've read on a blog that in addition to the police, the CPS, and the UK civil service, the entire cross-party Holyrood Salmond investigation committee are in Sturgeon's pocket and are going to let her off the hook by 'whitewashing' her / the entire SNP's apparent criminal actions in conspiring to commit perjury.
