Back to school?

  1. Make the most that you sensibly can of the summer. Looks like next winter will be grim - Covid and No Deal ( or as near as).

A Lib Dem voting neighbour said, over the hedge last week, "The government (Westminster) is so inadequate and uncaring, thank goodness we have Nicola Sturgeon."

She's right of course and I made a point of being, very gently, encouraging. Never despise a late change of mind.

Scotgov does what it can but the main levers of power remain with the killer clown gang and their bling aeroplane and second virus wave policies.

If we don't use next year's election to move decisively towards independence we will deserve all the filth forced on us by ignorant, selfish unionism.

    1. Your point about your neighbour is encouraging, but in a way it isn't new - there has always been a segment of the public (8%?) who are willing to give pragmatism suitable due over partisanship and vote for the SNP as government of Scotland. (There must be well more than that now who are counting their lucky stars that the SG isn't headed by Jackass Carless, Redundo Leotard or Weary Willie.)

The secret, though, is to get them to extend that willingness to believe that we could really do it far better all-round as a self-governing country. In the face of two crises rolled into one biggie looming at year's end, we can but hope...

    3. Problem is, we have a summer to get through, Scotland is open sadly and English hol tourists will flock in once their school hols start, and Scotland's schools will (poss) reopen just as hoards of English people do flood into Scotland, where we know the virus will spread like wildfire among our urban and rural areas. We cannot close the border because that is a 'UK'EngGOv power, so we are utterly royally screwed! All the work being done now by SNP ScotGov could be reversed and we could see a huge lockdown in late autumn/winter. It hardly bares thinking about actually.

US Governors enact interstate travel restrictions.

Meanwhile in one of the oldest nations of the world our devolved gov have absolutely no control over borders. Yet the lying Britnat Tories are always peddling the lie that the Scot parliament is one of the most powerful devolved parliaments in the world. Like Trump the Britnats are pathological liars.

  5. James, I've been pretty much in agreement with you all the way through this crisis (and on most other topics) but my sense isn't that this is a climbdown or retreating because of pressure. My impression is that the Scottish Government is genuinely surprised that the figures here have come down rapidly, and they want to fully reopen schools in August while previously they didn't think that was possible. I'm a bit worried about July however when tourism reopens, as that may set us back a bit again, especially if the rates in England aren't falling enough. It might be that the schools won't be able to open fully in August, but I'm confident that the Scottish Government is much more driven by the science than our southern neighbours and they will make a rational decision nearer the time.

    1. English people will flood into Scotland ( no offense I am originally Eng) because they will mostly be cooped up in UK due to covid19 etc...and if Scot schools return in Aug, just when English hols are in full swing, we will see huge rise in covid cases in Scotland, poss long term late autumn/winter lockdown. A horrendous scenario to say the least.
Without border control powers, Scotland is in great peril right now, and the EngGov will be delighted to see Scotland suffering re covid19 cases and deaths, as well as economically destroyed. I fear that our schools will reopen, but, given Eng have later school hols and fact they WILL holiday in Scotland ( where else is there to go right now?) then we are in deep doo doo.

    2. I just don't understand this attack line. There are only so many ways to lift lockdown. It's obvious that every country's lifting of restrictions will look pretty similar. The key is that in Scotland, things have gone more slowly and more carefully. The outcome is that Scotland has daily deaths and new cases in single figures now, while England's are in three figures just as Johnson has effectively announced that there's basically no problem any more. The extra caution of the Scottish Government is manifestly a lifesaver. It's utterly bizarre that BritNats seem to think it's the ultimate gotcha line. Their British Government has directly caused thousands of excess deaths. The cognitive dissonance involved in comparing Scotland unfavourably to it must leave them catatonic.

  12. There's another issue about opening up the schools, which was put to me by my son who has two children at primary. You can't just flick a switch, and expect everything to go back to pre-Covid normal, when children are now used to not being in school.

My son had spoken to the head teacher when blended learning was the plan, and she was planning to let the children adapt back into schooling in a less busy school. I hope the DFM is taking this issue into account in his revised plan.

    Cap in Hand

Blackford goes cap in hand to Johnson yesterday asking for the Scotgov to be able to have borrowing powers up to £4 billion to assist in the post covid recovery. Johnson says fuck off Blackford.

Not asking for more of our money back that those thieves in Westminster steal but borrowing powers for Scotgov up to £4billion. That's right just borrowing powers. Money the Scotgov would have to repay out of future Scotgov budgets.

Yet lying Britnats are always peddling Scotland has an annual deficit of £12-15 billion. An annual deficit but Scotgov cannot borrow that type of money. Lying Britnat thieves.

The only annual deficit is a Britnat UK deficit. The only National debt is UK national debt run up by Britnat Tories and Britnat Labour tossers. UK National debt is now well over £2 trillion.

Blackford is the man who will always be remembered for his many promises that Scotland will not be dragged out of the EU against its will. Doesn't mention it now mind you.

So much for the infamous VOW in 2014. Scotgov don't even have the powers to borrow. The vow was a con - The Smith commission was a con. The SNP keep letting down the people of Scotland but were happy to try and save England from the Brexshit they voted for. SNP wasted years on this.
