Nominations please for the Scot Goes Pop link list

As you'll have seen in the previous post, I had to make a deletion (with considerable regret) from this blog's link list yesterday, and I noticed while I was doing it that the list was getting way out of date - some of the sites on it, like A Burdz Eye View, for example, haven't been updated for years.  So it's time for a refresh, and I thought I'd ask for your suggestions.  I'd be keen to have a few more of the following...

High quality Scottish pro-independence blogs, ideally ones that are regularly updated

Maybe two or three high-quality pro-Plaid and/or pro-independence blogs from Wales

Maybe a pro-Mebyon Kernow or pro-autonomy blog from Cornwall

If you'd like me to link to your own site, I'm happy to consider that as long you add a reciprocal link, and as long as your site is good quality and doesn't contain any inappropriate content.

By the way, I know everyone's first suggestion will be Wee Ginger Dug, and I'd love to add that but I seem to run into a technical problem every time I do.  I've just tried it again and a gigantic photo appeared taking up half the screen.  The reason is that the blog list settings add a little snippet from the most recent post in each blog.

It goes without saying that I'd be only too happy to restore a reciprocal link to Wings at any time Stuart chooses, but it does take two to tango and at the moment he appears highly unlikely to have a change of heart.

You'll be pleased to see that I haven't been allowing the worst political crisis since the Second World War to get in the way of recreational pursuits.  That was taken a few hours ago - can anyone guess the mystery location?

  2. This is a view from the top of Grey Mare's Tail looking northwards over Loch Skene (with its extremely rare Vendace fish) towards Lochcraig Head some thousand feet above the loch. A magic walk round the tops taking in White Coomb http://www.walkscotland.plus.com/Borders/skene2/pages/index.htm

    1. Top of the class. I didn't spot the fish, though.

    3. It doesn't seem to work that way - everyone I met up there was a posho.

    4. Young James, try a walk from the Queens View on the A809 1k North of Auchengillan. Cross Dumbarton Muir heading south west towards Cochno Loch and Jaw Resr. Heavy going but worth it. If you head further west you will see a kaleidoscopic view of Dumbarton. Amazing.
Wear your gators, very wet and spongy. Take a map and compass. Glasgow sheet 64 OS covers it

    6. Given the location, we could have a discussion on the political DNA of the Loch Skene Fluffster. Slippery, reptilian or small-brained? Or maybe people have lost interest.

  3. I find 'National Left' fairly informative on Wales. Also has a fairly decent set of links that I click onto regularly from the site: http://nationalleft.blogspot.com/

    1. Jim and I followed each other on Twitter for years, and for a long time I thought he was just a random anti-EU blowhard. I couldn't believe it when I read that he was once Deputy Leader of the SNP. Shows how much the party has changed.

    2. Obviously not of the same quality* as The Misssy M Misssives (last updated three years ago).

*or do I mean europhile organisational conformity?

    3. Well, if you're just here to make snide comments, let's be honest: Jim Fairlie has written ONE blogpost in the last year and a half. I'm sure you think that was a hell of a blogpost, but I'm not sure it justifies a place on the list. Maybe try your luck with a Europhobe who actually posts regularly?

  7. www.http://talkingupscotland.com is a great site with Professor John Robertson , he keeps us right up to date with all sorts of statistics, and blows the lies of the unionist parties right out of the water.

  8. James,

    May I suggest:

    In-D-Car Gordon Ross.

You are right. Sadly that several folk have stopped running their blogs. I had particular admiration for Derek Bateman (who has apparently been ill, which is unfortunate and I wish him a speedy recovery) and A Burdz Eye View which just dropped off the radar.

Perhaps you and Paul could talk about fixing the links, because your two blogs are in my top three, along with Munguins new Republic. Depends what day of the week it is or what the news of the day has been before I decide who's to look at first!

  12. Well, it turns out it's legal to suspend parliament in the UK if an unlected PM wants to silence the opposition.

I've always said the UK is much more at risk of dictatorship than most western countries. I was right.

  13. Hi James. I would add Talking-up Scotland and Peter A Bell. And does Newsnet Scotland qualify as a blog? I would also reinstate Wings. Stu Campbell can be a bit of an arsehole at times - as can we all- but he has made a significant contribution to the independence cause. Not so much recently but I am hopeful that he will recover focus when the next referendum campaign begins. I also notice that you do not require reciprocity from some other blogs to which you link.

    1. I'd support Robert on that. I fully understand that you're a bit pissed at Stu, but Wings remains one of the few sites that deals in reporting facts as opposed to scribbling comment. I think you should demonstrate that you are the bigger man, and re-instate that link.

For the avoidance of doubt, I am blocked by Stu on Twitter. I think it was for pointing out that his (sensible) opposition to the criminalisation of offensive behaviour was at odds with his defence of OBFM legislation. But I suppose it's a tricky subject.

    2. I don't "require reciprocity". I'm pretty sure I linked to Wings before he linked to me, even though Scot Goes Pop is around three years older than Wings. But the point is that removing the link *at this exact moment* was blatantly an act of retaliation for my dissenting views on his proposal for setting up a political party. That's why, in this particular circumstance, no-one can reasonably expect me to restore my own link unless there's reciprocity.

  14. I know a lot of people don't like it but I find commonspace a good read and although a bit lefty for some it suits me.

    1. I don't read CommonSpace very much, but to the extent that I do, I get the vague sense that it's improved since Ben Wray took over as editor. The leftiness never bothered me, I'm a lefty myself, it was just the occasional outbreaks of puritanism that wound people up.

    2. I agree James - it is a good read and although it doesn't take the SNP line all the time it is a much better read these days since Wray took over.

  15. Senedd Home and State of Wales are two of the best websites on Welsh politics and independence. Both run by the same person as well.

It's an attempt to actually have an English language media in Wales. It's pro-independence but does have contributions from unionists on a semi-regular basis, which is always interesting

  17. I've deleted a few comments on this thread. Some people were just being vexatious, others had a legitimate point to make but couldn't seem to do it without being ridiculously rude. If anyone wants to try again without treating me as a punchbag, feel free.

    1. I found it a pretty good summary of where we are.

I do sense he's extremely frustrated, and that has been building. I think that's reflected in the more 'aggressive' posting on certain topics.

      I think we all are.

The SNP really do need to become a pro-indy Scottish party rather than an anti-UK brexit party again.

However, I don't doubt that our 27 neigbours - who will decide upon our entry to their trade bloc - will have advised the Scottish government as to what their preferred timing is. I'd imagine that would be 'once it is clear that the UK is staying or leaving'.

Not only that, but London will also have said what it thinks about timing and what it will kick up fuss over vs what it may may be more inclined to accommodate.

Like it or not, we don't live in isolation.

Of course we public will not be party to this realpolitik, but it will be shaping SNP (and London's decisions).

Announced on FB this afternoon, SNP deputy leader John Swinney and SNP MP for Perth Pete Wishart will address the rally at the end of AUOB march in Perth tomorrow.
