Hands Off Our Parliament

So as I mentioned in the previous post, I spent a few hours at the 'Hands Off Our Parliament' event at Holyrood yesterday.  I was even invited to make a short speech - as you can see for yourself, because Independence Live (whose operations seem to become more and more sophisticated every time I encounter them) were filming throughout the day.  My slot starts at around 7:20 on this link

One of the joys of an event like that is 'celebrity-watching'.  I found myself standing right next to the legendary Scottish Resistance just before my speech, but possibly the most surreal spectacle was Michael Gray taking part in the Yes Bikers ride-past on a distinctly analogue bike, and grinning with sheer delight as if he'd just found out Santa exists after all.  One or two people on social media criticised pro-indy MSPs for not turning up, but that's a bit unfair - I'm 99% sure I spotted Ash Denham, and there may have been others as well.

The schedule of the day was ingeniously crafted to provide lots of highly visual showstopping moments.  It must have looked fabulous on television.  In China, I mean - from what I can gather, the only TV cameras on the spot were from a Chinese channel.  Ah well, maybe there are some soft No voters on holiday in Shanghai at the moment.

Like almost everyone, I took a few photos while I was there.  Here's a selection...

    2. I've just seen footage of our comrades in Union in action in Holland prior to Englands "friendly" with Holland. Flag waving gaggle of fanatics doesn't even come into it.

"I have no interest in soccer" but "I have such a great interest in Gentlemen's Water Closets that I've named myself after them."

    6. A great many of the troll's hate-filled rants wouldn't be out of place on certain of the nation's stands.

  3. And not a cheep from any of our 'impartial' media. Where else in the UK would you find a demonstration of a couple of thousand people completely ignored?
Have I your permission to use one of your pictures on my FB page?

    1. The media do tend to ignore small fanatical groups like the BNP etc.

  4. GWC2 - main body of the people there , it being a work day were older, lots of pensioners. There was a great deal of what I would call the warmth of humanity on view. It was at times a beautiful event.

  7. Gordon Broon declared in the Indyref VOW that the Scottish Parliament would be permanent.
Did anybody spot him at the Demo?
He promised even with a Tory Govt we would have 'the nearest thing to federalism etc'
GB you betrayed your country and havenae the guts tae speak up and oppose the England/UK power grab.
Speak out now or give up your right to intervene in Indyref2.

  8. Of course, none of this actually happened. There was nobody at Parliament. The photos have been doctored (probably by Vladimir Putin himself). We know that because if there had really been a demonstration it would have been on the news. Wouldn't it?

    1. How true! It's how so many people think.
I was there and though the SNP were there in big numbers what struck me was the absence of the other parties who signed the contract up to the continuity Bill.
They couldn't muster a car load between them.
All credit to the real Democrats of the SNP who came from aw the
      airts to defend Holyrood.
