Why Theresa May's hard Brexit makes a second indyref almost inevitable

Just a quick note (another one) to let you know that I have a new article at the International Business Times, about how the recent ugly hardening of the Tory stance on Brexit has vastly simplified Nicola Sturgeon's decision on whether to call a second independence referendum.  You can read it HERE.

Making lists of unwelcome 'foreigners' is only the beginning.

The tory party can never outkip the kippers.

It's why the incompetent Cameron was forced into his calamitous referendum in the first place.

Nasty Party Theresa will never be able to outdo Farage when it comes to demonising foreigners, xenophobia and outright racism. Even though, clearly, she is trying as hard as she can right now.

Farage will always be able to go one step further as we soon shall see.

The tory party won't be able to do a thing about it since their days of dismissing the kippers as loonies, fruitcakes and closet racists have now ended as they both battle to see who can be the most repulsive and far-right xenophobic party.

  2. But we have been told that the British Government will make Brexit work for us.

Theresa May has a great plan - a beautiful plan - and she will make Europe pay for it.

Maybe she will even share some details of it in due course.

    1. Yes, that typo is my own fault. The deadline was quite tight, and I noticed the mistake just as soon as it was too late!

    1. Britnat si greatest hits time:

The troll calls scottish people "jocks", advocates arming Leave campaigners, claimed Jo Cox's husband was a fascist, uses racial and ethnic slurs, pretends to be Labour (badly) while espousing far-right racist hate-speech, praises Theresa May and the tories and displays a perverted poisonous obsession with Scotland's First Minister & her predecessor

  5. My natural tendency would be to jump up and down screaming for an independence referendum but………
If I stand back and look at the situation, I can see a better option.
In England (and Wales) there was a majority for leave. England and Wales voted to change the current constitutional arrangement. Those walking out on a marriage don’t expect to keep the house. It seems to me that England (and Wales) have rejected the status quo and need to LEAVE : NOT JUST THE EU BUT ALSO THE UK.
    Look how this perspective simplifies matters;
Scotland doesn’t need to have another vote
England can select the Brexit it wants: without upsetting the neighbours
The EU doesn’t have to worry about the finer points of re-admission
In effect, England has voted for independence. It only remains for Nicola to make sure Theresa hands over the keys on the way out.

    3. I dunno. Some of the Britnat si's recent successes:

The troll calls scottish people "jocks", advocates arming Leave campaigners and setting up armed militias in every workplace, claimed Jo Cox's husband was a fascist, uses racial and ethnic slurs, pretends to be Labour (badly) while espousing far-right racist hate-speech, praises Theresa May and the tories and displays a perverted poisonous obsession with Scotland's First Minister & her predecessor

  10. Can't disagree with much of this. Although I don't think 'Hard Brexit' is just the result of contempt or 'imperial' attitudes on May's part. Far from being the strong leader she presented herself as, she's being pulled this and way and that by internal pressures in her own party, particularly resulting broader attitudes to immigration. It seems that English MPs have concluded that leaving the single market is the only way to appease anti-immigrant voters. The fact that immigration is not the same explosive and toxic issue in Scotland makes all the difference, since there is not the same push for a hard Brexit here. This might have quite a profound impact on the Remain voting liberal Scottish middle classes.
