More on that totally coincidental link between J K Rowling's misogynistic Twitter-chum and popular journalist Euan McColm

As you may have seen, I was highly privileged yesterday to briefly attract the attention of the unholy alliance between abusive CyberBrits and the Global Rowling Heavy Mob. As far as I can see, their one and only defence against my suggestion that certain coincidences seem to link J K Rowling's misogynistic Twitter-pal "Brian Spanner" with popular journalist Euan McColm is that all of the apparent evidence was in fact a highly sophisticated form of unionist/boy wizard humour that can't be correctly interpreted by civic nationalists or by fans of inferior children's fantasy fiction such as The Chronicles of Narnia or The Hobbit. In view of that, I wonder if they could help me in deciphering the correct comic connotations of a few other seemingly suspicious (but I'm sure totally innocuous) facts.

1) Out of 320 million possibilities, why was Euan McColm the very first person that "Brian Spanner" followed on Twitter?

2) Why was Think Scotland (a right-wing website to which McColm has contributed many articles) the second Twitter account that Spanner followed?

3) Why were Alex Massie, Iain Martin, John Rentoul and David Torrance (all journalistic chums of McColm) the third, fourth, fifth and sixth accounts that Spanner followed on Twitter?

4) Why does Spanner - an abusive troll who regularly uses the C-word, and who has a relatively modest 4,622 followers on Twitter - boast such a large number of the unionist establishment (especially the journalistic unionist establishment) among his followers? Examples : Blair McDougall, J K Rowling (who STILL follows him!), Alex Massie, John McTernan, Kenny Farquharson, Iain Martin, Chris Deerin, Stephen Daisley, David Torrance, Kevin Schofield, Alan Roden, Iain Harrison, Ruth Davidson MSP, Harry Cole, Nick Cohen, Gemma Doyle, Melanie Ward, Tom Greatrex, Stephen Hammond MP, Paul Martin MSP, Alex Fergusson MSP, Mike Crockart, Charlotte Wace (Scottish Mail on Sunday), Tom Martin (Scottish Daily Express), Lord Lewis Moonie, Maggie Vaughan (Alistair Darling's spouse), Murdo Fraser MSP, Paul Sinclair, Rob Shorthouse, Catherine Stihler MEP, Ben Borland (Scottish Sunday Express), Ian Smart, Ian Murray MP, and yes, Euan McColm. Are they ALL fans of deeply offensive misogynistic trolling and the C-word?

5) On a related point, is it really a total coincidence that Spanner and McColm both love using the C-word? Maybe I'm just careful with who I follow on Twitter, but I can't say I encounter the word very often.

6) Why are McColm and Spanner both so obsessed with the same picture? See HERE, HERE and HERE.

  1. Classic example of innuendo (or in-anyone's-end-oh!) by rhetorical questioning.

Should also be filed as exemplar of guilt-by-association — precisely the whoops-oh-nasty device deplored by Janice Rowling.

All summarised by Kenneth Williams (as Julius Caesar): Infamy! Infamy! They've all got it in for me!

And from that same venerable source:
Cleopatra: You do not look like your bust.
Julius Caesar: No, he's not. He's just a bit cracked.

    5. The guilt-by-association, in case you didn't spot it, was to imply that three dozen bods were all somehow implicated. Why else drag in Alistair Darling? Those literate enough to have read Alexander Pope will recognise the technique:
Damn with faint praise, assent with civil leer,
      And without sneering, teach the rest to sneer;
Willing to wound, and yet afraid to strike,
Just hint a fault, and hesitate dislike.

      What age are you 70????

And a bit. Does the ageism come for free, or is it an optional SNP extra?

      Delete
    6. I didn't drag in Alistair Darling - I dragged in Maggie Vaughan, and simply explained for the unitiated who she is. (I had an exchange with her once and thought she was just some random SNP-basher.)

Incidentally, I'm not in any way suggesting those dozens of people are "guilty" of anything. I do strongly suspect, however, that at least some of them have a fair idea who Spanner is, and that the fact that they follow him in such huge numbers is a pointer to his identity.

I don't approve of ageism, but as you haven't posted here before it would be useful to know what your interest in this matter is?

In the same way Wings over Scotland is from ... err ... anywhere near Scotland. Fortunately, I am more approximate to Wester Hailes than to Westminster.

Why should I not have an interest — even if it's not my "main" one — in political doings in Scotland? I suspect my knowledge of Scottish history, literature and culture is as rounded as the norm here. If you're setting an admissions exam., I'm up for it.

Also, on the off chance that a prominent Scottish journalist was to be proven to be behind the Barry Spanner sockpuppet account, it would be a bit uncomfortable for their employers as much of their work would have been carried out on Johnston Press (or Newsquest) computers and time. 4. @Anonymous, 6:12 PM

Hold on! Your link dragged the sainted Muriel into this thread, without apology.

What brought me on board for this thread was the original post, signed by James Kelly. This provided a check-list of names, many of which I recognise as decent, (small-l )liberal souls. Providing such a hit-list in blog-posts is too often an invitation to one's followers to undertake hue-and-cry.

      Which is precisely what ensued.

The massed ranks here present were loud: these were "right-wing" deviants, sympathetic to foul abuse and female genital mutilation (use the full term, chaps, don't hide the horror behind an acronym), and the gem (by another Anonymous, perchance?):
"a bunch of servile, political media type friendships in [Rowling's] inner circle ... a handy way to keep her name in the news or co-ordinate the next cybernat victimhood rant."

There is an argument about what is acceptable in blogs and chat-rooms. Whoever "Brian Spanner QC" is, I certainly wouldn't want to share a bar-room table with him. That's enough. Don't drag in every petty dislike you can entertain.

      Delete
    5. For about three years the press has hounded "cybernats" tracking them down and fearlessly exposing them to the world. Often to a chorus of approval by rich bullying hypocrites like Rowling and Blair "Joe McCarthy" Mcdougall.

This is not a "hit-list"; a clique of Unionist journalists and bubble-headed luvvies retweet and converse with this abusive simpleton on a very, very frequent basis. They know him, go for coffee with him. There are tweets where people like Daisley make plans to meet up and hob-nob.

Now go back and read these hypocrites opinions about "abusive internet trolls" and witness the utter sanctimony of these precious little sleazebags and their money-with-menaces friend Rowling.

Spanner is a frequent tweeter, they are either know the stuff he is tweeting and think that is all right because he is a Unionist (in which case, "feminist" Rowling gives it tacit approval) or they are thick as mince.

Very interesting this sudden attack of the Arsene Wengers from Scotland's fearless press where internet trolls are concerned. It couldn't be anything to do with them all being friends with this person, would it?

Because of the obvious social connections between this person and Better Together's inner circle it is in the public interest to find out who this abusive misogynist is.

Not to worry though, I hear someone is about to get a short, nasty little expose followed by a termination of employment.

Spanner is about to get thrown under the bus.

  21. The recent behaviour re Haggerty and Speirs over at Newsquest Paper Emporia Scottish Branch HQ, when linked and contrasted to the Herald's protective, promotional, and incestuous reportage of all things Rowling; serves as a timeous reminder of how ethically bankrupt and ideologically motivated Scotland's traditional print media has become. Far more concerning than the one-party state these hack freaks like to pump on about, is their own dominant messaging hierarchy. The treatment of a fine, fine woman like Phillipa Whitford being a case in point. In any other country with a balanced media, for every front page attack piece, there would be multplie columns and editorials going in to bat for her. NIT in Scotland where ideological bigotry transcend principle, self-awareness, empathy, decency, and integrity (see more Gardham LIES about SNP MPs again today). The lesson from this week is cleae: all of non-bloggers and writers are DEPENDING on SGP, Wings, Bateman, Bella, Commonspace, WGD, Ponsonby et all to find a place and position where a degree of unity prevails. Because from the Record to the Mail, the Herald to the Hootsmon, the Courier to Telegraph; we have NEVER needed an independent media sector more than we do now. Frankly, these largely non-Scottish owned wastes of tree pulp have gone off the deep-end since last May!!

It is beyond question that Scotland has a third world infrastructure that is barely adequate. It's also interesting how many of the same crowd of political journalist/columnist/editor types JK Rowling befriends on twitter, looking at the relatively small group of individuals she follows.

Times editor Farquarson, Israeli nationalist supporter and STV journo Daisley, Salmond obsessive Torrance, Record editor Torcuil Crichton,Jamie Ross,Sarah Smith,Iain Martin,Chris Deerin,Kuenssberg,Massie etc etc etc.

Cultivating a bunch of servile, political media type friendships in her inner circle must be a handy way to keep her name in the news or co-ordinate the next cybernat victimhood rant.

More of a politician these days than a kids writer it seems.

It's amusing how she still has to follow the abusive Spanner account, in order to maintain her stance in any court case - when she is obviously supportive of the individual behind it !

A nasty vindictive chap, it's a delight to see him squirm it all away as an elaborate unfunny unlikely joke.

The one major flaw in the Rowling defence, is that she knows exactly who Brian Spanner is, because he donated some £548.50 to her Lumos charity. A charity that is registered and regulated in England where anonymous donations, although not encouraged are allowed, providing trustees look out for suspicious circumstances and put adequate safeguards in place. The fact that Spanner's charity donation was based on selling off ripped off Scottish Resistance t-shirts to a gang of similarly jovial right wing chums and is subject to some dispute over design, should allow some chap or chapess with the right kind of investigatory prowess or crowdfunded resources to ask questions of the Charity regulators, just which bank account the £548.50 which was deposited in the Lumos bank account originated from...
