Time after time, we're faced with decisions : Which road to follow? How hard to fight?

Just a quick note to let you know I have a guest post at Bella Caledonia about last night's debate, and how it relates to the current polling situation.  You can read it HERE.

(The title of this post is from Cliff Richard's theme song to the legendarily dreadful 1990s TV series Trainer, which I haven't been able to get out of my head since I mentioned it two days ago.)

  1. I actually think Leanne Wood did a great job. Her posistion is greatly different from Sturgeon. Scotland has had a referendum on Independence, and a great deal of anti-SNP press, accusing the SNP of wanting to wreck Westminster and break up the UK. But she has had a great deal of publicity for Scotland, and was there to tell the rUK the SNP would be their friend.

On the other hand, Leanne and Wales has been in a different position, and she used her leader's debate position to get exposure for Wales, the problems with its NHS, and her views on what needs to be done for Wales. Good for her, and she did it very well.

  2. Survation UK Scotland subsample:

    46% SNP
    30% Lab
    12% Con
    8% Lib
    4% UKIP
    1% Green

UK wide, Sturgeon has the highest net approval rating of any leader. And that's will only 17% saying DK / don't know who she is.

  3. Based purely on that subsample Ed's getting a small bounce from his performance in the debate: perhaps not surprising as he did exceed low expectations.

    1. If he is, it's from the Tories based on the subsample...

SNP is downweighted by 2010 weighting most likely. There's not a crossbreak for SNP 2010, but 'Other 2010' is shown and ~20% down-weighted. That will contain SNP.
