I am pretty sure that if a new virus is discovered that is either more contagious or more deadly is discovered in Scotland it will be called the Scottish variant and not the UK variant.
Proof of that IoS is the frequent referral on Radio 4 to the Kent Variant. I guess 1. that is supposed to mean that in Kent it was first seen ?? And, 2. that there are now a few variants with more expected.
