Eurovision special of the Scot Goes Popcast - with a reminder that 60% of the public DEMAND a Scottish entry in the contest

As promised, here is the Eurovision special of the Popcast, which is a general preview of the contest, but also contains a reminder of the key finding from the pre-election Scot Goes Pop / Panelbase poll...

At the forthcoming Eurovision Song Contest, there will be a United Kingdom entry.  However, in 2019, Scotland and Wales both competed in the Eurovision Choir event as countries in their own right.  In future years, how would you prefer Scotland to be represented in the Eurovision Song Contest?

By a Scottish entry: 60%
By a United Kingdom entry: 40%

(Scot Goes Pop / Panelbase poll, 21st-26th April 2021, a representative sample of 1075 adults in Scotland was polled.)

I've attempted to predict the winner of the contest every year since this blog started in 2008 (with the exception of last year, for obvious reasons).  My prediction for this year is in the podcast, but for what it's worth, it's France - possibly with Italy as the runners-up.  I also mentioned Greece (among others) as a possible dark horse.

  1. I mean the UK, as a whole, is utterly despised throughout Europe so, it's hardly surprising that they lose badly pretty much every single year nowadays. It doesn't help that the songs they put forward are garbage either. There's some incredible Scottish talent that I truly believe would do incredibly well in this contest, just not as a UK entry.

  4. I wouldn't usually comment on Eurovision, but that was the best one in years. A real variety of songs (including Germany, even if I didn't quite know what to make of it) rather than the procession of bland pop and power ballads of recent years.

Wife and I agreed to vote for Switzerland, but I doubt it will win.

    1. Ok,Italy wouldn't have been my choice. My second choice after Switzerland were Finland, which I thought genre wise was much better than the winners.

  5. Oh dear. Nil point for the UK entry that was the poorest of the entries. Maybe the BBC might want to sit it out next year and let STV and S4C to send in entries as they are both full members of the EBU.

Amused to read on twitter those Brexiteers who think because of Brexit the UK entry was going to get punished. Quite a lot of the countries who voted aren't in the EU and the song was awful. I normally root for the UK entry to win but it was like a pub song.
