If you leave a comment on this blog, please ensure that you don't use extreme or excessive swearing. Please also refrain from making defamatory comments (even as a joke) against any individual, regardless of their political background.
Locating and deleting offensive comments is a very time-consuming process, especially when I'm on my mobile phone, and yet I'm having to do it more and more. Please don't force me into a situation where the only way to keep things manageable is to switch comments off completely.
Jock nat sis have an antipathy towards British soldiers who fought against the Natzis and the fascist PIRA.
ReplyDeleteNae sweary words in that duplicate post. The impersonator is cleary embarrassed with the truth.
DeleteTruthfully, James, although it would be unfortunately, the comments here have degenerated to the point that switching them off might be for the best. At least 3/4 of them seem to be trolling and abuse.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree.
DeleteI totally agree.
DeleteYes, if that's the only way.
DeleteAye, that Eurovision is pure divisive ;)
ReplyDeletein case you do need to take that route, thanks for all the work
ReplyDeleteI suppose I agree with Justin Kenrick. Your work has been amazingly good, so thanks for that.
ReplyDeleteIrrespective what some may state the reason people take a dislike to your work is because of the contents accuracy!
ReplyDeleteIf you choose to switch off comments and it is reasonable to assume that is for purposes of public liability or the fact you fear legal recrimination...then it is indeed a sad day as everyone is entitled to an opinion the issue is how people choose to express that opinion.
Keep up the excellent work ;-)
Several have said it James - your work is too valuable to let it, and yourself be ground down by hostile, reactionary goons. Cut them out, they make no contribution and are of a type who is not already there would readily be Brown Shirts. There is no moral obligation to give such people space. Your work is essential please keep it up.
ReplyDeleteThe Times say they've seen internal Labour constituency polling by Survation, which shows Labour on 40% in Edinburgh South, SNP 30% and Conservatives 20%.
ReplyDeleteThat's not a million miles from the 2015 result and has the SNP down 3% and the Tories up 3% and Labour just up 1%. If the actual election plays out like this nationwide then it might be another good night for the snp. The cross break in poll yesterday had the snp on 45% with the Tories on 18% and Labour 16%. The other poll out didn't have region break downs.
DeleteThr poll was also carried out befofe the local elections whatever effect that could have. However it's not as good for the SNP as it appears, as the SNP vote will have been held back in 2015 by the terrible candidate. I'd say this poll is probably in line with the national polls which have the SNP a few % below the 2014 Yes vote - SNP support of 30% is around 5% lower than the Yes vote in Edinburgh South, however the Green vote is probably quite decent here which will likely have suppressed it a little.
DeleteSorry James, I used unpalatable language in one comment the other day but I was frustrated with the constant troll feeding. Can we just ignore the hate trolls?
ReplyDeleteIf you decide to close comments, it's understandable.
ReplyDeleteKeep up the good work though.
It's a pity that the troll James McGibbon aka GWC aka Jimmy Glesga has done his job on this and various other blogs and forums.
You think GWC is the one doing all those twitter quotes, copy/paste insults and swearing at Unionists?
DeleteSeriously?
Eh?
DeleteThe first post in this thread is by the person I mean.
It is, and I agree. He's a troll.
DeleteBut look at any comment page. Most of the comments are all from one person. Either he's mass-copy/pasting his accusations about GWC/Aldo, or he's swearing about Tories, or he's pasting random pro-SNP stuff out of Twitter.
I'd put him at about 75% of the spam on this site, give or take.
I can see you disliking GWC, and I empathise. But you don't have so much as a whisper to say about what is obviously a far bigger problem?
To be honest, I hadn't noticed the other stuff.
DeleteMcGibbon stopped me reading btl comments a while ago.
At no point has 'Cassisus' or 'Greenock' condemned the bigotry, homophobia, racism and hate speech from GWC2.
DeleteNor is anyone in any serious doubt what the real problem is.
You have failed. Utterly.
At no point has 'Cassisus' or 'Greenock' condemned the bigotry, homophobia, racism and hate speech from GWC2.
DeleteAu contraire, more than happy to condemn GWC. You're welcome.
Au contraire, it's GWC2 and you have still failed to condemn the bigotry, homophobia, racism and hate speech he spouts.
DeleteYou're welcome.
If you decide to close the comments section so be it.But please, please, please keep up your excellent work. In particular your analysis of Opinion Polls.I personally find your work very instructive.
ReplyDeleteAgree with the other non-trolls here. Great posts James but the troll (who I have sometimes wondered is it you?) does devalue what you do. Since other platforms are available, and the offers of contributions to fund them, I do wonder why you go on tolerating GWC and Aldo. But please do go on blogging even if you disable comments, because your viewpoint is too valuable to lose.
ReplyDeleteActually I do not devalue or intend to devalue what the blog master does.
DeleteI do intend to disagree with posters.
Reading some of the crap you moaners moan about makes what Kelvin MacKenzie says about the Jocks credible. There was a time when Scotsmen were real men not a bunch of nancy bhoys.
Panelbase sub for Scotland actually has the Tories just ahead of the SNP.First time I've seen the Tories ahead in Scotland. The sub poll yesterday had the SNP 45 and Tories 19. I know sub polls are volatile but they can hint at what's happening.
ReplyDeleteIt doesn't have the Tories ahead - on the headline numbers the SNP and Tories are tied.
DeleteSome people (in several comments I've deleted) seem to have mistaken this post for a green light to start attacking my moderation policy. It's not that at all - it's an appeal to people to respect the moderation policy. And I need hardly point out the irony of people complaining about me deleting comments in which they said that my moderation policy isn't strict enough!
ReplyDeleteWith the greatest of respect James, the majority of the BTL comments have been actively disrupted here for the best part of 2 years.
ReplyDeleteYou'd be doing the community a favour by either :
a) turning off comments entirely;
b) moving to a platform where you have some automated control over comments.
Your blogs are good but the BTL stuff has been troll central for a very long time. I rarely look, never mind contribute if I see GWC and the anti-GWC posters have been active. It's very effective in pulling down the standard of your blog as BTL has been mainly abuse/innuendo for years.
Turn comments off or move to another platform but DON'T go away. We need your insights more than we need troll central.
Its the BTL stuff which is the problem for your blog now & its only going to get worse so its getting close to the time where you need to make a choice between turning comments off or moving to another blogging platform.
I do sympathise but appealing to people to behave at this time is unlikely to yield results ;)
The lack of SNP activity online tells me they are in deep trouble. This election will see the Cons win around 20 seats and the SNP 30. Politics in Scotland is changing and after June 8th the country will feel very different. Things are so bad for the SNP we now cling to sub samples for some hopeful comfort.

DeleteIt doesn't have the Tories ahead - on the headline numbers the SNP and Tories are tied on 42%. But the sudden appearance of unionist astroturfers on this blog is a sure sign that the election is hotting up!
DeleteI don't think anything can better illustrate how unmanageable this blog has become than the fact that an appeal to people to respect the moderation policy has just emboldened people to be even more impossible. I think I must have had to delete about twenty comments on this thread. As a temporary solution I'm going to disable comments on this particular post, but this problem is beginning to take up far too much of my time, and if people can't exercise some self-restraint I may have to think about the future of the blog itself.
