John Swinney deserves credit for his leadership of the SNP. In turbulent times his steady approach has paid dividends. The SNP now sits comfortably ahead of other parties, something that he has overseen, with his careful style and effective political direction. It is fair to say that few politicians have managed to achieve what John has in such a short space of time. The transformation in party fortunes is remarkable.

Nigel’s remaining support is bulletproof. He can be caught out in blatant contravention of electoral law and they don’t care. He can lie outrageously, claiming to have not been listening to a conversation he was clearly participating in and they don’t care.
I blame the other parties for this. Reform UK voters must be scunnered with mainstream parties to the extent that they’ll not return for the foreseeable future.
I recently watched the excellent Italian series 1992. Voters were so disgusted with the post WWII established parties with their institutionalised corruption that they flocked to Fascist adjacent Lega Nord and Berlusconi’s Forza Italia. The notion that Berlusconi would reduce the level of corruption was of course preposterous, but folk were so repulsed by the status quo by this point that they deserted the establishment parties anyway.
England and Wales are in that territory now. Farage’s pay-to-play relationship with foreign currency speculators and Crypto billionaires is just so blatant and yet one in four voters are happy to tick the Reform box.

DeleteAnother way of reading the polls, is that approx 28% of the English/Welsh electorate and, unfortunately, approx 15% of Scottish Voters are racist-fascists and are willing to completely agree with Farage's manifest extreme right views and quite blatant racism, in exactly the same way as the MAGA morons do with Trump.

DeleteMy understanding is that since 2014 support for independence has increased by 20% so now it should be much easier for the septic's to sign up and join in, and yes I did spell that correctly, the sceptic's will do what they do and moan about it

Good news is that now that Burnham seemingly has agreed the same route to an independent Scotland as to a United Ireland, it really does simplify and more closely define what the SNP and Yes Movement must do to satisfy the related requirements.
