ReplyDeleteIf the UK Government does not provide an internal means to expressing our self-determination, then external means need to be sought. There are several initiatives doing just that in view of the intransigence of the UK Government and its instrument, the UKSC.
ReplyDeleteThe converse of that is if the UK Gov does provide an internal route, it weakens the case for any external route, like UN, ICJ.
So it's always possible someone had a word in Burnham's shell-like and he's being clever. That's the potential down side of this. Is it likely? I don't actually think so - he would need to be far more specific, and detailed.

DeleteWell that is genuinely thick. It draws attention completely to the UK State denial of internal self-determination for Scotland.

ReplyDeleteIn any case, if polls are to be believed, there’s little appetite for a referendum any time soon. I think it’s fair comment to say most Scots are more concerned with other issues than the constitutional question.
I think its fair comment to say most Scots will vote YES if the constitutional question is put.
DeleteScotland is indeed as free as Northern Ireland. The catch is that final authority for a border poll is in a Secretary of State's hands, so from the interior of No 10 it doesn't look any different. They're the ones defining what a majority is.
