I see that Stoo is having a sane one in response to the result. He’s alternating between retweeting Johann Lamont and people saying the Scottish parliament should be abolished.
Question James :- the Welsh Parliament (as I understand it) have voted to change their electoral system (though still PR) to a more "people understandable" one ..... why can't the Scottish Parliament follow suit ? I know we are tied into this D'Houit system by the Gerrymandered Westminster 'Scotland Act' .... so how did the Welsh manage to avoid this "road block" ?
Even the most cursory look at THE ALTERNATIVES would reveal that there exist a wide selection of alternative arrangements many of which possess desirable features that we could consider. This idea that we can only consider what has been 'given' (imposed) elsewhere in the UK is all to common and I would suggest is a mindset that our outward looking movement should be fighting against.
At the moment THE ELECTORATE get to SELECT who is to be elected in each constituency.
In a PARTY LIST system like the one proposed it is the POLITICAL PARTIES who will select who is to 'represent' the people.
If you do not understand that it is the SELECTORS, not the ELECTORS who will then control this system, go and read about the history of 'Tammany Hall' or the 'Electoral College' in the USA.
A system designed FOR the elites and against the ordinary people.
Take a look for example at Professor Mollisons work on STV in the Uk: https://www.macs.hw.ac.uk/~denis/ https://www.macs.hw.ac.uk/~denis/STV2023.pdf
What reaction to a UK General Election, pro indy majority in Scotland, do we expect from an incoming Farage Westminster government ? Apart from the fluke of 2014 separation by agreement is a myth. We need to start now explaining piece by piece disengagement based on our current majority. It will be too much for Mr. Swinney so a new leadership will have to emerge which is up to the task. The alternative is to wait for a Farage appointed, lounge bar, Gauleiter to replace Holyrood.

ReplyDeleteA true independence supporter.
I would love to see Joanne Lamont on Love Island getting it on with a like-minded colleague like Jackson Carlaw or the Duke of Offord.

James, I can’t see the final vote share numbers for the election anywhere. You wouldn’t happen to have them to hand would you?
