I think it's good, though some may accuse him of just trying to please the Indy movement. I think we need to remember that as FM he is FM of the whole of Scotland including those for whom devolution is (currently) good enough. But as leader of the SNP he can be himself, and push for Indy for all he's worth.
As long as it's not actually the other way around :-)

Lab 22% (+1), Con 21% (-1), RefUK 22% (-1), LibDem 11% (-3), Green 13% (n/c).

Con 19%, Lab 21%, LibDem 11%, SNP 28%, RefUK 15%, Green 11%.
Electoral Calculus model with Scottish finesse.
Labour 125 short of majority.
Lab 201, Con 155, RefUK 144, LibDem 64, Green 33, SNP 28, Plaid 3, others 4.
Labour are strong only in the Liverpool Manchester corridor, and Tyne and Wear. Even the London boroughs are substantially Green. They have two nailed on seats in Scotland and the rest are marginal calls.
The Short money from 28 seats ain’t gonna return the SNP finances to rude health (and that seems to be the only thing approximating a strategy at Jackson’s Entry).
A de facto referendum where parties stand as they normally do is unlikely to give us 50% if you just add SNP + Green votes. There's a whole bunch of pro-indy Labour voters who will never consider voting for anyone else, and you really need them on board. And maybe more (including indy-minded Reform voters). For de facto to work, the pro-indy parties would need to come together as a YES choice on the ballot. I doubt that could happen. But surely you'd need something like that to build the momentum, and promote the kind of spirit we had in the summer of 2014.

There have now been 7 polls with field work exclusively conducted since Burnham was sworn in as PM. The poll of polls has RefUK ahead by 0.17%. This is not reflected on best fit curve graph on Wiki page, Westminster voting Intention.

Will GERS be debunked next time around, I hardly think it. Will the utter farce of electricity charging and connection charges be addressed? I don't think we need the whole manifesto just yet, but the SNP does need to start making a spectacle of Unionism's flaws. The SNP should be at least trying to make Unionism uncomfortable.

ReplyDeleteWhy do so many still bang on about John Swinney's strategy ? Beyond hand wringing and polite requests for 'more gruel' he hasn't got one. It is beyond the ken of the troughers he leads to understand/accept that we need a different road that will leave him irrelevant on the edges as Parnell was in Ireland.
No more chasing fantasies, a majority and a disengagement strategy then Mr. Swinney can join Sturgeon in London with fat pensions, TV appearences and 'knowing nothing' about squalid little tricks in the past.
