DEMOCRACY IN ACTION: Newly-elected Scottish Parliament decides by 72 votes to 55 to hold an independence referendum (but just one snag: the UK isn't a democracy, it's a *prison*)

  1. Unionists gonna Unionist.

Re: Farage, I doubt he's any more of a friend of Scottish freedom than dear wee Cole-Hamilton. There's nothing in it for either of them. To the English, Britain is theirs, no one else's. Get a majority in Westminster if you want it so badly, jocks.

Right now, we're doing what we need to do to prove the simple, consensual democratic path is blocked. That's a necessary first step, as hypotheticals count for nothing against demonstrated fact. And Tuesday demonstrated that this is no "voluntary union" and just as certainly not "of equals".

The ball is back in our court. What now? It's time for your secret plan, John…

    1. The secret plan only applied if there was an SNP majority I'm afraid

  2. We have local elections next year. The SG could easily add an extra ballot to save costs and ask if the Scottish Parliament should be the body that holds a referendum in 2028.

  3. I think calling it a prison is being polite about it. Swinney needs to grow a pair of baws or step aside for somebody who has them.

  4. Question for a referendum requiring a 90% positive return. “ I wish Scotland to be subservient to England”. I’m sure Cole hyphen Hamilton would jump at joy at that. If 90% not achieved Scotland becomes independent!

  5. I expect it to be like Euro24. Scotch courage will fail and there will be no plan.

    1. I'll make an exception for that one just to demonstrate you actually use the word "Scotch". Doubtless everyone says that where you come from in (checks notes) "Dumfries and Galloway".

    3. I'm from D&G ... G to be more precise, and so many of we "Scotch" are truly heartbroken about how our Bonnie Galloway has been turned into just another part of England. To be fair, though, some, and I stress some, of the incomers, are very keen on Scottish independence. Not enough, however, to counter balance the "Nos".
