Swinney’s plan fails at the first hurdle and we do not get to see his secret plan for indyref2 in operation. Funny how this secret plan couldn’t be used for 19/10/23 - save the date - no ifs no buts. A strong SNP electoral showing is all that we have to hold off 'reform' and Starmer's tory and zionist 'Labour'. As far as that goes SNP votes are important. With the continued barely managed decline of the UK, independence has to be our target. The ideological power of propaganda still gives the parties serving the super rich support massively above the tiny numbers whose greed they feed. Swinney's, slightly more liberal approach is no long term answer. Worse it feeds the illusion that independence can come by agreement with the British state. The fight lies in the SNP membership - for our self determination whatever Westminster thinks and a leadership with the determination to carry it through.
Alt Clut - no matter the makeup of Holyrood after the election the White Walkers are coming for us in the shape of Farage - Trump's man in the UK and just like Trump he will not be frightened to do what some think is unthinkable - shut down Holyrood. A majority of SNP MSPs will not save Holyrood if Farage has a majority in Westminster. It's independence NOW that is necessary.
Can the English/Welsh Greens come to our rescue and win at Westminster and dispatch the White Walkers. It's a very very long shot. But perhaps more and more English are turning off Trump and by association Farage. I know one thing for sure we cannae rely on Swinney to be our saviour.
The most promising metric is perhaps the Net approval rating for the Scottish government. For some reason the lag in release of these polls is substantial. A lot has happened since the field work was conducted. The Gorton & Denton by-election, together with the war on Iran shouldn’t really impact on Holyrood polling, but it will. The tenure of John Swinney has been reassuringly dull, in comparison to what went before. That probably accounts for the improved approval rating. John Swinney inherited his position, if he is elected First Minister (which is an absolute racing certainty), he should have the confidence to manage with authority. A lot of familiar faces are retiring from the SNP ranks of Ministers. John should have the moral authority to fill vacancies with the most technically qualified and competent candidates.
When the relatively tranquil stewardship of John has been interrupted by negative, front page headlines, it has been almost invariably down to those damned QUANGOs. John should appoint Ministers with the guile and determination to actually manage their departments, not just let them blunder from one scandal to another (yes, that’s a reference to Angus Robertson). Time and time again, the QUANGO class have been proven themselves to be venal chancers. Failing finding a new route to recruit honest, and competent replacements, the existing lot will want watching like a hawk.
John should regard being elected in his own right as granting him authority to be his own man and ignore political patronage from within the party. Appointment ministers from a business background (the SNP has plenty of those) and leave the less than impressive political hacks as cannon fodder.
Reform's Offord has to deny stirring up racial hatred with some recent remarks, a leading recidivist thug who led the Falkirk asylum seeker hotel protests was found guilty of abusing a police officer ( nailed-on certainty he is a Reform voter ) and Farage scurries off to Mar a Lago to comfort his best pal Paedo-Donnie.
ANY Scot who still casts their ballot for that human garbage, is made of exactly the sane keech.
Reassuringly dull involves blundering from one scandal to another? Swinney's government is dull due to a remarkable lack of action apart from fire-fighting the failures of it's own previous actions, but the corruption and incompence make it less dull. In a bad way.
I don't buy into the veracity of Scottish polls - who is going to be motivated to bother to vote for yet more Swinney? People who who are so dull they take part in commercial polling in exchange for shopping vouchers?
Debate night on bbc from Grangemouth.As an observation I Couldn’t help but notice how manly English audience members got to speak. Nuclear power for example and of course immigration. Do they view themselves as ex pats, foreigners or indigenous? Can they not see people wanting to work in Scotland are welcomed from all nations or is that dictated by U.K. reform/tories/labour?
I'd love to know what people's favourite breakfast is. 1. On working days. 2. At the weekend. I'd say we're in for a few surprises if people are brave enough to take up the challenge.
