It seems pretty unlikely after chaotic dog pit of Alba but the best outcome would probably be for those who actually want independence to gradually filter back into the SNP. Although the SNP remains an ideologically lazy and self deluding organisation, about 30% of us tried to forward a more realistic strategy at the last conference. A boost of 'new' activists could help if they could leave the snarling personal ambitions of Alba behind them. I'm not optimistic that they could do this but just maybe.....
Has the SNP changed, since most people left 5 years ago. Has its committment to independence improved. Has it stopped treating women as second class citizens. Does it know what a woman is now.
Has it explained where the referendum fund money went.
I notice in the National one or two saying that’s it— I am never voting again ever! Sorry that’s your view. The Britnats will be happy although in truth the small numbers wouldn’t impact on the HR election anyway. The self promoters on the National may gain some satisfaction in seeing their name but it really is about them puffing out their chest and saying, look at me. If I can paraphrase a song- Salmond no more, Hendry no more, MacKaskill no more, Ahmed-Sheikh OBE no more, Campbell no more etc
I personally moved away from the SNP a few years ago for various reasons, but have now decided to rejoin them and give them my votes.
In the real world, I see no viable alternative, as Alba has clearly shown.
The most immediate thing for me, is to at least retain a pro independence Scottish government in May, without which we have absolutely no chance of furthering our self determination ends.
Anyone who talks against the continuation of such a government while simultaeously saying they want independence, have two faces both of which are talking rubbish.
For those of who can't abide the embedded corruption of the SNP, and who left because of it, the idea of returning to that party is simply not on. For now, my vote will go to another pro independence party on the list, should there be one.
After many election victories and years of polls showing a majority for independence that is all it is - a dream. This is down to the political leadership and dumb party members. Shame on you.
It was always about Alex, and his hangers on, not about independence. He betrayed the party membership.
He also betrayed Scotland's cause with his English Crown Privy Council declaration of fealty to his "divinely ordained" King Charles.
It's easy to see why Salmond was so fond of the parasite English Royals. The greed, arrogance, sleaze and corruption: birds of a feather flock together.
It's no accident, that although there is consistent support for Scottish independence, there is now nobody to actually vote for in elections. + I do not believe the polls showing SNP suddenly popular again for 1 second..

Since most of them came from the SNP in the first place, that just gets us back to the status quo ante.

If not why would I rejoin?

Neither do Sarwar and Findlay.
DeleteScottish Skier probably in contempt of court in a post dated Feb 21 2026 at 9.41am on a WGD article. Disgraceful stuff. I won’t repeat what he said.
ReplyDeleteIf you think what Skier said is in anyway related to Contempt of Court you are beyond clueless. Nice try IFS.
