VICTORY (maybe!) for the Kelly Campaign to have the whole Alba NEC elected by the whole membership

On a much more positive note than my previous post, the email sent out to Alba members tonight states the following: "It is also the case that the Party this year as part of the constitutional review will have the option, if it so wishes, of moving to OMOV for the National Executive elections."

That, of course, was the proposal that was the centrepiece of my campaign to be elected as Membership Support Convener, and although I very narrowly failed to be elected (having led on first preference votes), I think it's entirely possible that running with it so strongly may have led to this breakthrough, because once it was on the agenda other NEC candidates started expressing a view on it.  If so, it may yet be that I can look back on the frustrations of the last few weeks with a degree of pride.  As the saying goes, politics is - or should be - a battle of ideas rather than of personalities, so victory for the idea is more important than victory for the candidate.  I didn't really have a specific legacy as a member of the NEC between 2021 and 2022, so it's a rather satisfying irony if I'll have one this time without actually having been elected.

The principle is simple: a party only has an internal democracy if its governing body is directly elected by the whole membership.

I am currently fundraising in the hope of running a new Scot Goes Pop opinion poll in the New Year - details can be found HERE, and the fundraiser page itself is HERE.

  1. Self ID no more. It served no purpose other than to try and piss people off, waste money and try and divide the yes movement.
Self ID was always going to fail as a policy. Scotland is a colony and the colonialists in Westminster were always going to use this to show who remains the boss in Scotland. All policies (not just Indyref2) can be struck down by Westminster if they want to. That is the reality. It is no coincidence that since Sturgeon's gang have taken over there is policy failure after policy failure. Britnats galore in the SNP. The Greens are also a nightmare. Will the Greens now resign from government - I doubt it - but it would be good if they did.

  2. Can there have ever been a greater set of clowns than these SNP/Green ministers.

    1. Another new record created by them. Two bills sitting in purgatory - Yousaf and his Hate Crime bill which the polis keep saying they cannae implement and Somerville and her GRR hoping for a British Labour government to bring it back to life like Frankenstein.

Somerville almost gives you the impression she wants her fellow SNP ministers, members and voters to vote Labour in the next UK GE so she can resurrect her self ID horror show again.

    2. Dualling the A9 - target has now gone back 10 years to 2035. By the time the SNP complete this we will all be using hover boards to get about.

    3. Robison says Westminster ain't showing them enough respect and if they try the sect 35 move again they will ????????? oh aye just like Blowhard Blackford said Scotland will not be taken out the EU against its will. You don't get respect because you are a colonial government infiltrated by Britnats and unlike the big time crooks in London you are only petty thieves.

  3. No of course there has never been a bigger set of clowns than this current SNP/ Green government. They have become an embarrassment to this country, and as sure as night follows day, are going to pay the ultimate price at the ballot box.
The really sad thing is they have set back any realistic chance of independence back years.

  4. So, the National's top four stories to supposedly bring cheer to Yessers over Christmas. 1) The SNP are happy to do a grubby deal with the red Tories to push through GRR. 2) Noon telling us we'll have to wait a long time for indy. 3) Something about Gaza which the First Activist is currently obsessed about but most Scots would agree is a tragic but very much non Scottish issue. 4) Noon again pushing for the SNP in the HoL.
Honestly, never been more deflated about indy than right now.

    1. Have to say I’m deflated a bit myself to be honest.
Being realistic, we probably are going to have to wait a while for Indy, but nonetheless I’m sure it’ll happen one day.
I never thought I’d see the day when the SNP were so bad. Maybe a spell in opposition in Holyrood would do them good, who knows. Maybe Labour governments in Westminster and Holyrood wouldn’t turn out to be as good as unionists seem to think after all, and it would galvanise the Yes movement.
Just a thought, but looks like we have to be in for the long haul anyway.

    2. Stephen Noon was advisor to Alex Salmond

  5. Noon was advisor to Alex Salmond who was the one who hired him and he was also previously a Labour voter
I really do wish you Alba people would do your research before you spit your bile all over the internet

Steven Noon is a former advisor for the above reason, Humza Yousaf basically said he was happy to see the back of him

    1. Anonymous - it is well known that Salmond appointed Noon - he also had Sturgeon as his deputy. Was Yousaf happy to see the back of Sturgeon. In fact Yousaf also worked for Salmond.

    2. I'm well aware of Noon's background. That's what makes it even more deflating; the former Yes strategist saying 'you just haven't earned it yet baby' after Sturgeon's wasted decade.
I have no links whatsoever to Alba either.

  6. Yet another article from the used to be Indy supporting National, promoting Graham Smith and the British Republic organisation.

From the website for the (British) Republic (what we want page):

    https://www.republic.org.uk/what_we_want

    “When Britain becomes a republic
    A very British republic
A democratic Britain will also give a huge boost to ‘brand Britain’.
As VisitBritain says in their guide to promoting Britain
    A very British republic
making Britain a more democratic and fairer place to live
Of course, this is a very British republic
A new head of state for Britain
    Do you like this page?”

Hands up those who want any sort of Britain for Scotland.

Is the National thick or what? They keep promoting this very British Republic.

    1. It's not The National that is thick it is the people who believe The National supports independence. The National has always been the Sturgeon fanzine because this enabled Sturgeon to control what happened on independence - namely, nothing. The National and Sturgeon - Britnat Trojan horses.
