Just thought I'd take a screenshot of this tweet, in case it mysteriously disappears at some point. Here we have the Tories telling voters last Wednesday that the election was "one last chance" to stop a second independence referendum. Not a "once in a generation chance" or even a "once in a lifetime chance", but the "last" chance. If that chance wasn't taken, the matter was settled forever. And we know that when politicians say things like that, they're always talking absolutely literally and can be held to their word.
Just a reminder of the result of the "one last chance" election -
SNP: 48 seats (+13)
Conservatives: 6 seats (-7)
Liberal Democrats: 4 seats (n/c)
Labour: 1 seat (-6)
Crikey, what a moment. No more chances for the Tories - ever. Time to move on, and hold that referendum.
I've only got the "Once in a Generation" leaflet from Patricia Ferguson, Gla NW. Mind you, I had to pick it up in a close.
ReplyDeleteWe got nothing other than thae SNPeee through our own door.
Will Labour in Scotland stand candidates in 2021, or will they honour their promise. What say you, GW.
In my younger day I used to act out scenes from Patricia Ferguson's life to the soundtrack of West Side Story. In an old train compartment.
DeleteThe polls that underestimated the SNP vote by a few per cent, did they also underestimate the support for a yes vote?
ReplyDeleteIf they were underestimating SNP for the reasons I suggested (false 2017 recall), then yes, very likely.
DeleteDifficult to say though as such an effect would be corrected in new polls by 2019 matching 2016 quite well for the SNP, bringing the two back into line.
Likewise, we now have hard brexit with a Tory majority coming. Unemployment will rise sharply too as this directly correlates with the size of the Tory majority. These should all have their own effects on Yes, masking any correction boost.
10 bob on that the Nat sis will arrange a walk out of the Commons before the 31st Jan 2020. It will be done on behalf of every Scot.
ReplyDeleteWe can walk out of the commonwealth games too. Maybe the Olympics.
DeleteBetter the UK just be democratic rather than despotic, eh?
A Scottish Commonwealth Games is a pub crawl through the Calton tae Brigton.
DeleteThat's the thing about being a despot. You have to crackdown, send in the jackboots and start arresting people.
DeleteIf you take away folk's vote, they'll protest. Internationally where they can. This can be really embarrassing. They'll also start disrupting things, causing you major problems. So you need to start rounding them up and stuff. Beat up old ladies, slam teenagers in jail. Simply declaring voting illegal just doesn't work by itself.
You just can't do a wee bit of a dictatorship. If only! Nope, you need to do the works. That's the only way you can hold it together.
Skier, this is Brit Scotland we do not go around like the Irish Republicans tarring and feathering people and putting our own in shallow graves. We are a cultured people.
DeleteYou vote for supporters of IRA terrorism. So your point is?
DeleteI personally voted for one young man who is a dedicated trade Unionist in Glasgow. Unlike myself he was not around when the IRA started their nonsense. You silly irriot.
Delete"Cultured people" eh? Aye right enough we did get a sample of your culture in Freedom Square on 19th Sept 2014.
DeleteLabour support Irish reunification.
DeleteTheir sister party, the SDLP, standing shoulder to shoulder with Sinn Fein, just beat the unionist in NI for the first time in history, meaning a border poll should be held.
Looks like Rod Stewart is getting pelters from the Scottish Nat si new found Irish Republicans converts who attend football in Glesga East End.
ReplyDeleteGWC The Resident Britnat turd that seems impossible to flush away talking a load of shite again.
DeleteYeah,
DeleteI had that problem yesterday. Enormous amounts of bleach and mega toilet flushes finally worked. Jobbies are stubborn wee bastards.
Why won't they listen?
ReplyDeleteMichael Gove said "when the oil and gas runs out Scotland can have a referendum, let's see what the Nats say then"
DeleteContrary to media and opposition garbage Scotland is very wealthy, Jim Rogers billionaire economist with Bloomberg said "If Scotland takes its Independence the rest of the UK will have nothing to sell because the Scots will move their borders back to where they were and take back the oil in the South East of the North sea that Tony Blairs government in England claimed for itself in a swap deal for a Scottish parliament"
The UK of England has been living on that oil for 40 years while Scotland recieved the percentage population share which are scraps
That aside Scotland is loaded and they don't want to let go until there's nothing left, once again think of Ireland and every other country they treated like a colony until they took their Independence after there was nothing left
If you think about it the only country to kick the Brits out while they still had their wealth was America, and what did the Brits do, they immediately bent over backwards to trade with them because they needed the business, commerce or die, thats the British motto quoted by General Cornwallis
Scotland is in the same position, we have wealth
There are 100.000 people buried in mass graves all across Ireland, were those people terrorists or just starving Irish people that the Brits stole their food from and then killed them if they objected
ReplyDeleteIf I were an Irishman North or South of the border I would feel exactly the same towards the Brits as they do
The only terrorists in these Islands are Brits, thankfully the Republic of Ireland is doing very nicely now and in far better shape than Britland with Scotland to follow their example
The Irish North of the border are British.
DeleteThe only Irishmen who say they're British are the nutters and they only do it in Northern Ireland, the minute they go abroad they're very quick to disown the British bit as they show their Irish passports
DeleteThe British in Northern Ireland you refer to despise the Brits as much as the other side, it's only that they hate Catholics more
Long and many years of British indoctrination drove it into them but it will soon be gone because those same Northern Irish people are seeing their future as part of their own original country now hopefully to put England and the propaganda using monarchial Brits behind them
Wings twitter account suspended - anyone know why?
ReplyDeleteThere could literally be a thousand reasons. Suspensions are usually lifted pretty quickly, though.
DeletePermanently banned, apparently. Earlier in the year, there would have been uproar. But having diligently burned all his bridges in the past few months, I doubt more than a handful of his most devoted readers will care.
DeleteSeems that Twitter have received several complaints relating to his new favourite topic.
DeleteSo, maybe Wings has gone "finance-critical".
Aaaargh, I sense a crowdfunder coming up...
This comment has been removed by the author.
DeleteEveryone should be concerned about such bans unless they are absolutely justified. Wanting someone banned simply because you dislike them is the same fascist attitude being shown to all Scots by the UK government with regard to a section 30.
DeleteCorrectly e.g. describing a man, woman or trans person (certainly when using the third person, i.e. not addressing them directly) by the dictionary definition obviously doesn't qualify. I think we might hazard a guess Wings’ ban may be along these lines.
I personally think he's gone off the rails somewhat of late, but as I scientist (who did biology at university), it scares me that I could find myself in hot water for describing a man in a skirt as ‘a man in a skirt’, particularly as I very much like donning a skirt myself (and shall be packing my personalised one for the Christmas trip to my parents’ house).
Lorenzo the Magnificent says:
Delete17 December, 2019 at 10:28 am
Keep up the great work, Stuey. You are banned from Twitter because you are a threat. Don’t ever change. You are an amazing force in the Indy movement. Time for a new fundraiser?
Well, seems he has been taken out by the trans activists.
DeleteAs a 'trans non-binary' person myself*, I'm happy to go on saying that gender identity is the biggest sexist crock of shit going, there are only two sexes, and you'll be the sex you were born until the day you die.
----
*https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Non-binary_gender
Non-binary people as a group have a wide variety of gender expressions, and some may reject gender "identities" altogether.
Likewise, some of us suspect that free-floating 'gender' may be philosophically meaningless.
Delete!ndependence supporters should all self-declare as trans just before the next referendum. Thousands of us getting two or more votes.
DeleteHaving said that, all my selves would probably start arguing like rats in a sack about what independence would actually mean and we'd end up cancelling each other out.
Or maybe the female selves would be so weak and down-trodden that they'd just vote the way the male ones told them. "I quite like that Richard Leonard, he's got nice eyes but himself says I've got to vote Yes!"
What if some of the other selves turned out to be UKIP or Orange Order, dragging the rest of us out to Democratic Football Lads Alliance demos. We could have fascists and anti-Nazi League counter-demonstrators all in the same body creating mayhem on the streets "what do we want?" "Nazis out!" "what did you just shout?" "no, it wasnae me, it was one of the commie bastard selves!" SKELP!
Seek help.
DeleteWings is fucked this time, he admits it himself.
DeleteWell, the pound has already fallen to pre-election levels.
ReplyDeleteIt's comically insane that folk thought somehow voting in the Tories would sort all this out, 'getting brexit done', and we can all just move on.
Nope, all the UK did was take a large step forward into the deeper section of the shit pool.

If Johnson gets the exit deal through, that will be the really easy bit done. Next comes the hard part.
No deal returns! It will be on the cards for many, many years to come.
I got a good euro rate yesterday from a shop under the Central Bridge.
DeleteGWC there are a lot of dog turds down there so as a Britnat turd you would feel at home.
DeleteWhy is Constantine Mudge never mentioned as a potential SGP leader anymore? He ticks all the boxes - he's broad-minded enough that the Rowlingites could live with him, but he's a hell of a lot more polished and charismatic than Big Eater, William Purves or even Scottish Skier.
ReplyDeleteI say,
DeleteCan I sign an Early Day Motion in favour of that?
One thanks one's admirers with gratitude if also reticence. One never promotes oneself. One never expects approbation, merely the satisfaction of having striven to achieve and if to fail, yet with honour.
DeleteAs the general election dust has now start to settle, we should spare a thought for the 'Polling Expert' who isn't much of an expert when nearly all his expertise was ignored on last Thursday.
ReplyDeleteGoing back to the John Lamont story. I thought that you were not allowed to descrbe yourself as 'MP' during an election campaign. You are just a candidate like any other.
ReplyDeleteGood move from the Tories putting into law that we leave the EU dictatorship on schedule. The rich and famous will not be able to go to courts
ReplyDeleteAnother good idea is deliberately get people's names wrong. There was a rugby player from England I hated called Jeremy Guscatt. Everytime he came on the TV I said There's Jeffrey Gusset. It would have driven him mental if I was aloud on to the same TV studioes he's never out of but once a prince all ways a prince.
DeleteThe BBC neo con Liberal elites have not mentioned brexit yet today. Main story is about the Brussels sprout spillage in Scotland.
ReplyDeleteStill no sign of Young James. The burd may be fully in control.
ReplyDeleteFirst they came for Wings...
Meaningless sexism? Check.
DeleteThat Tweet is a keeper. :)
ReplyDeleteI just saw a photo of Carlo Ancelotti looking worryingly like Ian Gray. What a legend. The guy who led unfashionable Labour City to within a point of victory.
ReplyDeleteAnd are the Lib/Dems going to drop Proportional Representation until the 2040s or is "once in a generation" just a figure of speech?
ReplyDeletehttps://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/politics/av-referendum/8332801/AV-referendum-its-a-once-in-a-generation-opportunity-says-Nick-Clegg.html
....and is the Labour Party now planning not to fight another General Election until around 2044? Or is "once in a generation" just a figure of speech?
ReplyDeletehttps://labour.org.uk/press/corbyn-labour-offers-a-once-in-a-generation-chance-to-transform-our-country-and-take-on-the-vested-interests-holding-people-back/
I noticed that at the time and wondered what on earth Corbyn was on about.
DeleteI mean it is just a figure of speech as is Lamont's above. It is just the inability to accept that Salmond used the same figure of speech that makes it funny.
Correct, Shrimp.
DeleteIn 2014 my ballot paper simply asked "Should Scotland be an independent country?" with Yes and No as the only possible answers. No mention of "once in a generation".
Stuart Campbell has a big foul mouth and believes his opinions to be more important and more informed than anyone else and the rules shouldn't apply to him and he involved himself in an argument that can't be won by anyone because it's a nonsensical argument that he was too stupid to stay away from and the size of his ego and his mouth got him banned, it might have been what the self procalaimed messiah was hoping for so he could bleat about it to the sycophants who'll throw money at him because they're just as stupid as he takes them for
ReplyDeleteWings sycophants blaming the SNP for Twitter banning Campbell now
ReplyDeleteSee how he tries to make it work for himself
Grouse Beater blames "Boris". Bella Caledonia Twitter a/c cries tears of joy.
DeleteSo SNP bad.
DeleteIn the words of Ms Winehouse's first album -- frank:
ReplyDelete"Proud Cybernat says:
17 December, 2019 at 3:13 pm
@Capella
Well – why do you think should you support the most popular and widely read Independence for Scotland site?
I did. Not anymore.
Rev. Stuart Campbell says:
17 December, 2019 at 3:16 pm
“I did. Not anymore.”
Fuck off, then."
I never knew she made records. I thought she just went around complaining about sexy programmes.
DeleteHopefully once we leave the EU you Nat sis can turn your lives around and throw your bitterness in the bin. Volunteers needed at Scottish food banks.
ReplyDeleteWhat's stopping you then?
DeleteRules are rules, if you don't like the rules swearing at them won't change them it'll just make the folk who make the rules dislike you more
ReplyDeleteIf it says on the bleach bottle don't drink this, you don't drink it then blame the bleach people for making the stuff
When you self style yourself as a subversive then foul mouth everybody who doesn't agree with you sooner or later someone who can do something about you, will
You can't use Twitter to conduct a crusade without crusaders who oppose you fighting back
Most of the people who follow this head case on Twitter don't know him and have never met him yet they support this anonymous person and give him money as long as he writes what they think they want to read, they have no clue whether he means a word of anything he says because they don't know him, they don't see him, they only know he exists
If you treat someone as an evangelical figure even a sane minded person could seduce themselves into thinking they might be
Stuart Campbell is a ghost on the internet who feeds off the vulnerable seekers of somewhere to invest their beliefs and he's happy to use that vulnerability to fleece them of any cash they want to throw his way
All that's happened here is Campbell's gone so far with this latest strategy his ego and now his desperation has caught up with him
If you are an Independence for Scotland supporter this is not the person to invest yourself in
I do hope being foul mouthed is permitted in an indy Scotland.
DeleteAs long as you don't harass anyone in an unsolicited way, it's a fundamental tenet of free speech in a democracy.
Just like you are doing here for example, i.e. being very unpleasant about Stuart Campbell.
I don't refer to Scotland's FM as the C word and I don't resort to unpleasant foul language about anybody, in my opinion if you do that then there is no discussion, that's confrontaion and just insulting for the sake of it, and that's what Campbell is, he is by his own admission a subversive who provokes people until he gets the reaction he hopes for so he can then complain about the people he provoked, that's every bit as bad and maybe worse than the behaviour of the newspapers he complains about like the Daily Mail
DeleteCampbell is of no use to the Independence cause because the people who support it already would whether he was part of it or not, all Campbell achieves is turning the middle ground away from Independence because those people want no part of a Scotland that listens to people like him
On topic. Aye time to move on and hold that Referendum. It seems that several posters are genetically incapable of staying on topic.
ReplyDeleteThere seems to be a lot of people who hate Stuart Campbell that are annoyed that they maybe won't be able to read his tweets and complain about these any more.
DeleteI find some people's obsession with guy worrying.
Skier, Knickerless has a new words, foisted upon us as well we are being dragged out. The Nat sis who along with Sinn Fein IRA campaigned against the EEC during 1975 but accepted the vote. Is it the case that some Nat sis are benefitting personally from the EU. The working classes have not benefitted except, for the dolups of butter from the EEC mountain.
DeleteDid you support the SNP back then, or did you vote for a remainer just like you do now?
DeleteDid he support the IRA back then like Corbyn? Anyway the Citizen Smith act is wearing pretty thin.
DeleteIf it must troll (and let's face it, this is it's only social outlet), then at least make it funny.
Not as obsessional as you are about yourself and your own opinions that very like Campbell's centre around how clever and important you believe yourself to be
DeleteThere are some of us who know him, you obviously don't
Anonymous @ 6:35pm. You are self delusional and well off the mark.
DeleteOk admit it, how many folk that can't stand what Wings writes are now over on his other twitter reading his tweets from there?
ReplyDeleteI believe Wings has a techie account, which I haven't looked at, but I may now that you mention it. (Why couldn't he have had most of the trans stuff on another account, maybe keeping an essential 10% for his main feed? )
ReplyDeleteBut it now looks as though the Scottish [?] Sun has picked up on things:
https://www.thescottishsun.co.uk/news/5076546/wings-over-scotland-banned-twitter-gender-row/
So, is this it going mainstream, with whatever consequences, or will it just scroll by like good old social media?
The media are picking up on the gender thing now in general.
DeleteThe problem is that self-id is inherently 'unfair' in the eyes of the public, as it gives exemptions to the rules that everyone is used to abiding by without some sort of expert certification.
Folk are absolutely fine with a man being declared a woman (effectively) by doctors, just as they are don't grudge disabled folks getting blue badge benefits. If the doctors say it's correct, then it's ok.
However, people won't agree with self exemption, be it for a man giving himself permission to go into the ladies shower room or a person 'self-id'ing as disabled without any medical confirmation so they could get welfare benefits.
Folks just don't see it as fair, and they are right.
If some men can use the ladies (and transwomen are males just like I am by definition), to be fair, all men should be able to use the ladies. We can't have different rules for some men. That is not equality. Not unless we have exemptions only based on medical certification... Which is how it's always worked because that's the only fair way.
We'll have our own Wee Jockia McYaniv here soon enough, and red faces will abound at the idiocy of having something that cannot be scientifically defined ('gender identity') as the basis for law.
Yougov favourability, UK poll Scots sample:
ReplyDeleteDo you have a favourable or unfavourable opinion of the following political parties and politicians?
+5 Sturgeon
-44 Johnson
-48 Swinson
-55 Farage
-58 Corbyn
Skier, are there any benefits to signing up for twitter? Could I be an asset for the Scottish Nat sis if I did?
ReplyDeleteGWC There are plenty of Britnat turds like you on twitter.
DeleteOne more defacation would surely not stop Brexit.
DeleteHave been listening to the BBC and Chanel 4. They are up to their old tricks again now that we are leaving the EU. They are now. concentrating on the trade deal. They keep dragging out Maraig McGuinness the paddy anti British EU Commissioner. She must be earning a bloody fortune from taxpayers.
ReplyDeleteWhy do you care what she's earning. What does it matter now?
DeleteIt does matter we have not arrived at 31 Jan 2020 yet. And I do not like unnecessary beaurocrats ripping off the taxpayer from any country. The time has come to do away with the Lords and cutting the Scottish Parliament by half. You Nat sis seem to like an over abundance of politicians. The EU has influenced you far too much.
DeleteIt's only a few weeks away.
DeleteSurely it's up to the people of other countries to decide if their bureaucrats are ripping them off rather than you making this call for them? It's really none of your business to be honest.
Baroness Swinson. Make it happen. For I am a Brit but proud Scotch. We need to secure our precious union. In the name of Jesus.
DeleteScotch is a whisky not a nationality.
DeleteIt is likely Swinson was promised in advance that she would as a back up get a place in the Lords.
DeleteI think I've deleted someone's comment by accident. I was trying to delete the spam comment but I think I got the wrong one. Apologies to whoever it was.
ReplyDeleteGWC the resident Britnat turd spouting a lot of shite as usual.
ReplyDeleteHey thicko If spouting shite is helping screw the Nat sis and the EU then more shite to follow.
DeleteA Britnat turd and a Britnat who pisses himself. They make a nice pair. Will someone flush the pair of them away they stink out this site.
DeleteThe whole thing about this gender recognition act review, is that i'm seeing a lot of people who voted SNP in 2016 complaining that the Scot Gov is implementing a promise made in their manifesto that people voted for. Makes a bit more sense now; we have just seen lots of English Nationalists voting for policies they don't believe in to 'Get Brexit Done, so not surprising that Scottish Nationalists voted for a policy they do not agree with to 'Get Indy Done'. Anyhow it would certainly be hypocritical for any SNP voter in 2016 to complain that the SNP is now doing what it commited to do in 2016 and they voted for.
ReplyDeleteIn related news I see has reviewed what has happened since it introduced self id in 2015 and discovered that it has caused not real problems, so much that it is introducing legislation that 16 and 17 year olds can self id (with parental permission).
* Ireland has
DeleteIreland would make it legal to bugger young boys if the Church told them.
DeleteNo, it's normal in a democracy to say if you don't like particular policies or not, and try to pressure parties to change these.
DeleteHallo, Here Lies Bath Braggart. Cry Not O Friend, Needlessly Nature Magnifies All Simple People Sometimes Clowns.
ReplyDeleteAnyways, it seems he amongst others hasn't read this:
https://www.gov.scot/publications/proposals-to-reform-the-gender-recognition-act-2004/
There's a lot of hot air and heat, and no light.
A good link with a line that sums up the situation very well, and why folks need to keep on protesting loudly.
Delete"The Scottish Government recognise that some organisations have changed policies which are not required in law. We also recognise that they have done so in a well-intentioned attempt to be trans inclusive. However, they may have unintentionally made changes that make women feel uncomfortable and less safe"
Some people arguing freedom of speech has been taken away from the wizard of Bath. He was pretty quick to do that to others on his site when they disgreed with him.
ReplyDeleteHe never did that once. Not ever, as far as I can see.
DeleteFreedom of speech laws protect the right of you to control what is said in your own home or website. That's absolutely fundamental to free speech. James can do it here, and thank god for that. He removes the worst of the crap that's posted.
You are only stopping free speech if you prevent people from speaking freely generally in public or private (as long as it is not directly attacking / abusing / harassing people in an unsolicited way). Campbell has never done that as far as I'm aware. He doesn't police the streets shutting people up and doesn't try to shut down websites of other people etc.
He also doesn't take well to criticism, that's for sure. However, he has not stopped people's free speech.
If my right to free speech extended to your home, I'd be able to go there and say grossly offensive things about you on your doorstep with impunity. Same applies to a private website / blog.
DeleteBy removing comments from his blog, Campbell is exercising his right to free speech in his own private space, i.e. that he has the right to stop others disturbing that as he sees fit.
If you visit his 'home / blog', you need to respect his right to free speech in that way.
You are wrong. It happens to all of us sooner or later and some more than others. Private blog - nonsense it is public. So wrong again.
DeleteA dissenting voice and you are banned. That is his modus operandi.
You're sadly mistaken over the use of freedom of speech there is in fact no such thing and never has been, that's part of the reason we have courts and the law to what you refer to as freedom of speech as a resort to prevent hate speech and that's exactly what Campbell flirts with all the time hoping to provoke the reaction he wants so as to complain about his lack of it to the misguided and misinformed who are prepared to fall for this nonsense
ReplyDeleteCampbell is the wee boy in the playground who starts the big boys fighting with each other by whispering in their ears that the other big boy said a bad thing about another big boy, then the wee boy, Campbell runs away
We've all seen that type in school till eventually they get caught at it and either get a hammering from the big bouys or end up excluded from school for being wee troublemakers
Campbell's been caught in the past for this behaviour, why do you think he lives in Bath, because he's aready run away but still can't stop himself or his mouth because he thinks he's better and smarter than everybody else
I've no doubt most people have come across his type before and they end up excluding them, he knows this, he knows what he is, in school you would have called him a wee Nyaff or some such name which is a whole lot less offensive than the way he refers to others
To defend this behaviour says as much about the values of those who would defend him
No, I'm correct.
DeleteYou can say what you like about people as long as you are not directly harassing / abusing them in an unsolicited way or inciting others to do the same.
'Hate speech' is not a crime. If it was, you'd be in trouble as your post indicates pretty clearly that you hate Stuart Campbell (and his followers). You are extensively bad mouthing Campbell, just like he does to some people.
You are no different to him in this respect, albeit you are using less swear words (but swear words are not illegal either).
I can call Boris Johnson a c**t freely. He is IMO. This is absolutely fine. I could call him that to his face if he chapped my door. I could probably get away with it in public too if he was out campaigning on a soap box. I could go to No 10 and say it too him as well in the right circumstances. As long as I didn't cross the line into a breach of the peace / threatening behaviour etc.
If he was having a private dinner with his girlfriend then I could not, as that would be unsolicited.
Bath is a nice town especially during the Summer.
DeleteGWC A Britnat turd like you cannot have a bath as it would wash away. Thats why Britnats and the UK stinks.
DeleteThere is a bit of freedom of speech for you.
I welcome such free speech as it indicates you Nat sis are in a state of disbelief after another defeat. 55% voted against the Nat sis over 35% of Scots did not vote. The outcome would be the same as 2014 when the 2035 indyref2 is held. Plenty of time to prepare counselling for you losers.
Delete
