More on the new Survation poll
Just a quick note to let you know that I have a new article in The National, with some more analysis of the new Survation poll showing support for independence steady at 46%, and an increase in the SNP's vote. You can read the article HERE.

ReplyDeleteExcellent news. Despite a daily SNP bad story by the combined BBC/STV and papers, the vote is rising.
ReplyDeleteGiven that the MSM narrative now is 'Look, Trump's not so bad' and 'Brexit's not so bad', it really does mean that the Green Ink Gang and their press will be reminded of 'The Boy Who Cried Wolf' with their scare mongering in Indyref2.
The Scottish voting public will be absolutely 'bombproof' to British nationalism scares & smears next time around, as the polls are clearly proving.

An indyref that could be little more than a glorified opinion poll, ignored by WM and boycotted by Unionists and challenged in court (if Yes won)?
An indyref that will give insufficient time for the Scot Govt to negotiate or legislate for indy, even if YES won?
An indyref because the SNP want to play safe with their: "you can support the SNP without supporting independence policy".
An indyref, that if it's a failure, eg, if there is poor turnout or a NO Win, that risks damaging the chances of Scottish independence for decades, all because the SNP want to play it safe by going for indyref instead of independence by manifesto mandate by democratic elections.

DeleteIsn't that quite a crude way of determining the will of the electorate on a single issue? At elections, voters choose between various packages of multiple policies, among which could be constitutional issues. For example, a left-wing independence supporter may vote for Corbyn's Labour over the SNP, without intending this to be an endorsement of the Union. That's why you need referenda for issues like this. It's very easy for Westminster/other nations/supranational institutions to argue that a vote for a particularly party does not necessarily equate to support for a given part of its platform.
