VOTE : Who has been the worst Secretary of State for Scotland since devolution?
Now count yourself lucky here - I was planning to really hurt your head by asking who your favourite post-devolution Scottish Secretary is, but at the last minute I decided to have pity on you. Believe it or not, ten people from three different parties have held the office since it became largely redundant in July 1999, meaning you've got a veritable rogue's gallery to choose from. Multi-voting is enabled, so you can spread the hate around as much as you wish. Vote wisely!

I would have to say Carmichael mainly because not long before accepting the post he described as a ludicrous and largely useless one and he did bring the office into disrepute with his recent behaviour .
ReplyDeleteOh, that's a hard one. It's so tempting to vote for Carmichael, but is that just because his awfulness is so recent and fresh in our memories? I don't think Fluffy has had time to show his mettle in the contest yet, and Moore definitely wasn't as bad as Carmichael. Danny A only held the office for about five minutes and I don't remember him doing anything especially egregious in that time.
ReplyDeleteBy that time we're back at Jim Murphy, and anything he did or didn't do before 2010 is completely overshadowed by his more recent antics, so he's a hard one to place. Before that? Who's Des Browne? I literally barely remember. Same for the others. At least I know who they were, Stalin's Granny and all, but again I struggle to remember what they did specifically in the role of SoS.
So maybe it's going to have to be Alistair the liar after all.
I just saw the bit about multi-voting. Isn't that a contradiction in terms? How can more than one be the "worst"?
DeleteFie on your cop-out. I'm going for Carmichael over all the rest.
Des Browne, as I recall, held it along with Defence Sec. But yeah, very forgettable.
DeleteThe best one was Danny Alexander because he never really got his feet under the table before he was moved to be Gideon's bagboy. He had no time to do anything except find the toilets in Dover House.
ReplyDeleteCarmichael. Amongst other things his contemptuous appearance at the devolution committee
ReplyDeleteYou are asking which turd smells the most disgusting. I don't even want to examine the evidence ...
ReplyDeleteI voted for them all as they've all been outstandingly shite.
ReplyDeleteI only discounted Browne as I don't think he did any actual damage.
DeleteShould the qustion not be who was our worst Viceroy?
ReplyDeleteIt has to be Ms Soubury's assistant Mr Mundell for me. Although, to be positive, his communication skills is his strongest trait.
ReplyDeleteWho cares-they were all useless.
ReplyDeleteGordon Brown.
ReplyDeleteCome on, none of the SSocs before 2010 could even fart without approval from the Clunking Fist.
That's like saying, you voted to have acne, which is your worst plook?
DeleteThis recalls the Headie at an English school some years ago, who wanted everyone to share first prize for a race, no matter who had won.
ReplyDeleteBefore the referendum was announced, the SoS's at least pretended to work for Scotland. Since 2011 none of them have bothered to hide their bias against the interests of Scotland, so I would nominate all of them.
Mundell may well prove to be the worst however, as he lacks the capacity to know what's going on around him---though he will have to share the prize with the Morningside Muppet, who seems to think he is in opposition to the SNP.
I have to agree with you, Martin and Mundell, should they not be working together, silly me, the are.
DeleteJames, that is one of the most difficult questions you have ever asked. They are all so bloody awful. As things currently stand, I'll go for Carmichael. However, I have a feeling that Mundell will soon provide some stiff competition for this accolade.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, if you had turned it around, I probably would have voted for Des Browne as the best (i.e. least worst) SSS since devolution.
I assume you mean "who has done the worst job as" rather than "who has been the worst person to be" SoS for Scotland.
ReplyDeleteI voted for Carmichael but mainly because Mundell hasn't had much time in the job yet. Try asking this again next year :-)

Mundell he is shaping up as awful and he is a Tory, Although to be fair most of the others have been Tories as well
ReplyDeleteNow and again obtaining from banks can get dubious as well. Why so? A straightforward thing like a late reimbursement punishment is frequently ignored by borrowers. This is on account of nobody needs to pay late. Also, this is the place the foundations can play it up further bolstering their good fortune. Botch up a reimbursement once and you might conceivably get your advantage rate expanded. Late expenses can be very considerable as well. It is absolutely not at all like a credit card late charge of £50; the punishment may be much more extreme. Visit instant loans
