"The joke is over": Now even the SALMOND FAMILY have turned their backs on the shambolic Alba Party

Today brings the news of the resignation of Gail Hendry, Alex Salmond's sister, from the Alba NEC, and indeed after making the video below I was told that several other NEC members (plus at least one high-profile - but unnamed - Alba list candidate) have resigned with her. This of course follows hot on the heels of Tasmina Ahmed-Sheikh's resignation as party chair, and suggests that the end for Alba may well be nigh.

  1. With the benefit of hindsight and without personalising it the party probably made a mistake by not electing Chris and Ash last year.

    1. It is a matter of enormous regret to everyone in the Alba Party that Chris McEleny has chosen to personalise this.

    2. Yes. Chris's personalisation of things has been just awful.

  2. Now that everybody's leaving I think I'll join and get an important post. I fancy being Alba spokesperson on spatial awareness. I might get on BBC news shows and become as famous as Ian Murray MP.

  3. Surely it is of second order importance whether a ***relative*** of Alex Salmond resigns from the party?

    1. Not when it's the Salmond Memorial Party and those of the blood are supposed to be reverted and venerated.

    2. Dan Brown might have a novel in him based on the sang réal at the heart of the Alba Party. It might involve extremely important family groups inventing and spreading malicious gossip about each other's relatives in order to earn a quaich containing the Three Secrets of Salmond which will reveal:
      1. Who shot Willie MacRae;
      2. Where the real Stone of Destiny is; and
      3. How Clare Balding ever got on TV.
      Can't wait!

  7. Alba has been the kiss of death and the ruination of reputation to almost every elected member who has misguidedly joined Cllr Michelle Fearns, Cllr Ellen McMaster, Cllr Caroline McAllister, Cllr Leigh Wilson, Cllr Brian Topping, Cllr Lynne Anderson, Cllr Jim McEleny, Cllr Chris McEleny, Neale Hanvey MP, Kenny MacAskill MP, Angus MacNeill MP Ash Regan MSP. Every one joined Alba with the best of intentions but has had their political career ruined by their association with Alba which in hindsight existed only as a vehicle to rehabilitate Alex Salmonds political career. In the space of 5 years it has morphed from the Alex Salmond Party into the Tommy Sheridan Party and I’m not sure that the remaining members had that on their bingo card. Now the continuing in-fighting backstabbing and duplicity still playing out behind the scenes looks like it’s set to ensure the demise of the entire enterprise and the sooner it’s put out of its misery in May the better.

  8. The Prism people were angry that The National didn't feature their registration with the Electoral Commission of the 'Alliance to Liberate Scotland'. They say they're a 'gamechanger', that their leaders won't stand and they're looking for members and activists. Maybe the Alba people have run off there - as the Prism people certainly seem very 'Salmond was stitched up' obsessed. However, after all of the Alba claims that they are vital to getting independence and vital to any pro-independence Holyrood majority - how are they going to bring that about now - if they ever had any intention of being an actual political party? Maybe they're just all off prepping for court cases and all that's being reported is a red herring display. Who knows. Whatever the deal is - they must be exhausting themselves and their members, especially if their members' subs have increased. All sounds a bit Coronation Street.

  9. Look at Anas Sarwar’s call for Starmer to go from a perspective of pure self interest (which is arguably all 95% of politicians actually care about). According to the polls, Labour stand to loose around 10 MSPs in May, but remain the third largest party. Crucially, Sarwar is at the top of a regional list, he will keep his salary. He could have kept his mouth shut and put 100% of the blame on Starmer.
    Arguably, what he did was take a gambler’s throw of the dice, and try to negate some of the impending losses (maybe a reduction of 4 or 5 MSPs). That’s something adjacent to courageous.
    Some of his MSPs back Sarwar’s decision.
    Crucially every Labour MP vociferously brief the political hacks against Sarwar (notably Imogen Walker, wife of Morgan McSweeney). To be clear, every one of these MPs will loose their seat at the next GE. They were parachuted into their constituencies by Labour Together gerrymandering of the selection process. It’s the MPs who would happily see Labour decimated at Holyrood in the name of incremental gain in the faction fighting in London.
