Anas Sarwar caught fibbing about the swing in Ayrshire by-election?

I've had to go old school on this one and calculate the percentages manually from the raw results published on the East Ayrshire Council website, but I'm fairly sure I haven't made any mistakes - and the swing to Labour appears to be a smidgeon above 8%, rather than the 9% claimed by Anas Sarwar on Twitter.

Labour 39.4% (+11.2)

Independent - McNamara 2.4% (n/a)

Independent - Ireland 10.7% (n/a)
Liberal Democrats 4.2% (n/a)
Greens 3.0% (n/a)
Independent - McNamara 0.6% (n/a)

Whitburn and Blackburn by-election result on first preference votes:

Labour 30.9% (-6.5)
SNP 28.9% (-9.7)
Reform UK 16.3% (n/a)
Independent - Lynch 11.9% (n/a)
Conservatives 6.7% (-11.8)
Liberal Democrats 2.7% (+0.3)
Greens 2.6% (-0.5)

Colinton / Fairmilehead by-election result on first preference votes:

Greens 5.3% (-0.1)
Reform UK 3.6% (n/a)
Independent - Wilkinson 2.3% (n/a)
Independent - Henry 0.8% (n/a)
Scottish Family Party 0.7% (-0.9)

  1. Irrespective of Sarwar lying (again) it’s a poor result for the SNP. Will they react to it? Nope.

  2. I’m more interested in the poor performance of the SNP, and the apparent lack of awareness and urgency from the leadership in addressing this problem.

  3. This proves beyond any reasonable doubt that the snp are back as serious players.

    1. A falling vote in three of four results is good? Can you elaborate?

  4. "Most folk are aware that a couple of hundred quid a year isn't that much to well off pensioners. If it had been pensioners are the poorer end of the scale it wouldn’t have been acceptable."

Most folk think pensioner only on new state pension (c£11.5k) are poorer pensioners and are really annoyed they aren't getting that much needed WFA this year because they don't qualify for pensio credit being £3pw over the limit!

    1. Skier would never have said "the snp are back" - as far as he's concerned they never went away.

    2. And you believe IFS ?😄

    3. IFS is like Dame Baillie of Greggs. If the lips are moving it’s disinformation and lies. They have never been seen in the same room (or Greggs branch) at the same time.

  7. That Reform result in Whitburn is notable, especially after they managed a similarly strong showing down the road in Armadale. West Lothian is emerging as a real source of strong support for them - way out ahead as the area’s third party.

    1. I'd put the unusual support for Reform in West Lothian largely down to Orange Order presence in some of county's towns and villages.

    2. As.much down to people seeing their towns change too. Ukip didn't do that well because there wasn't a perceived immigration problem in those days

  8. Just correcting an error in the Conservative vote for Colinton/Fairmilehead. 2022 they stood 2 candidates with combine 1st pref vote of 29.9% so there vote this time 19.6% is a drop of (10.6%) which is far worrying picture for them there!
