On the day Andy Burnham becomes Prime Minister, Scottish independence could now be just one or two years away from taking centre-stage once again

Keir Starmer is gone. Dinna let the door hit yer erse oan the way oot. What will Starmer’s legacy be? Someone created matrix the other week to define the average profile of a terrorist in the UK in 2026. The definition was a 51 year old, middle class, white woman who had never had so much as a speeding ticket in her life before. Starmer’s legacy will be trying to turn the UK police into a 21st century tribute act to the Easy German Stasi.
Maybe I missed something, but the Scottish Parliament voted in May to formally request a new referendum. I know there was a knee-jerk response from a Downing Street spokesperson, but was there ever any official request and/or rejection?
I agree that the next GE must be a de facto referendum, as expecting WM to bestow anything now is a busted flush.
Next option, in the event of an SNP majority, would be to invite all MPs and MSPs to a Grand Convention to debate over 2 days and then hold a vote on UDI. Do this all in plain sight of international media and observers so there's no excuse about recognition, sleight of hand, or any such nonsense. Just democracy, being openly practiced to ensure that the wishes of the people are carried out.
We should remember that Mr Burnham has promised to stand up for the whole country - north, south, east and west. Not forgetting Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland which don't have norths, souths, easts and wests apparently. So that's reassuring.
