YouGov latest: another swing to Yes on the independence question, and the SNP on course to win big

* .* .*

With less than two months of the year left to go, the 2025 Scot Goes Pop fundraiser is still short of its target figure.  If you'd like to help keep the lights on during the several months it will take me to find out whether an alternative funding model is viable (realistically it could be a wait of around four months or more), card donations are welcome HERE.  Or, if you prefer, direct donations can be made via PayPal.  My PayPal email address is:  jkellysta@yahoo.co.uk

Many thanks to everyone who has donated so far.

  1. Is former Sturgeon SPAD Liz Lloyd still an SNP member? Was she ever an SNP member?

  2. So now, like a coiled spring, the Swinney leadership will leap into action showing how different an independent Scotland could be on housing, health, energy generation, social inclusion, nuclear weapons, land ownership and the grotesque concentration of wealth in the hands of a parasite minority.
    John, John....
Or perhaps just repeatedly email members asking for next years subscriptions in advance.....?

    2. The Swinney leadership has already tied itself to a strategy that is guaranteed to fail Independence. It has created a hugely damaging precedent. SNP supporters surely cannot be happy with this? Why did Swinney do it? No one has been able to explain. Any posters on here who support SNP want to explain?

    7. Swinney's strategy is intended to break the log jam and force Westminster to the negotiating table. He could not have been clearer about this.

Why would a single-party majority on <50% of the vote force Westminster to do anything?

  3. Excellent news.

Also great news that Democrat candidate Mamdani won the New York Mayoral Election by a wide margin last night and the Democrats won elsewhere in that State.

The orange blimp will go onto meltdown, as his own personal ratings are in the bin.

On the back of Wilders getting kicked out of power in the Netherlands, the extreme right look to be in retreat once again and it is only a matter of time before Farage's bubble will also burst in the UK, as his international 'heroes' get shown up for the incompetent frauds they really are.

  5. This post on X (twitter) really does sum up the trash which is the Reform party;

"So what Reform policy seems to boil down to now is:-
    The young paid less
    The old paid less
    The disabled paid less
The sick and mentally ill forced back to work and paid less
The black and brown people deported
The rich can do what the hell they like."

    1. Brilliant post.

Reform do not give a sh#t about 'working people' and will only look after Farage's rich pals at the expense of the poorest and most vulnerable in society.

They are a party for bigoted, racist simpletons who are either too dumb to think or too rich to care.

You only need to look at the absolute shambles they are making in local authority power in England to understand what an unmitigated disaster they would be in power in WM.

Wee Stewie knows all this but chooses to just ignore it.

So far is that pathetic clown down the rabbit hole.

    2. Farage is merely a conduit to tunnel in foreign big money into the Westminster brokerage house - and Scotland is a very special asset rich target. Farage is just another broker whose massively big money chums need him to have a legitimate political foothold in the political institutions where he can be propped up in order to get what the potential profit sheisters are eyeing up already. YourParty.uk also have mixed reasons to be enabled by some independistas to get a foothold into Holyrood. They are all mingling at the same social gatherings all the time - a la Paul Hutcheon's wee piece about Ash Regan turning down Farage which gives an good example of the networking opportunities at Spectator hosted and many other wee soirees where alleged independistas hug with those the most innocent and suggestible wee independence supporters imagine never happens. Everybody is a chum.

  8. How realistic is it that Reform are really ending up with nothing despite being on 19%? Wouldn't that be based on an incorrect assumption that the Reform vote will be evenly spread all over Scotland?

    1. We'll only find out when it's put to the test, but put it this way - a lot of people were very surprised in 1974 when the Liberals only won 2% of the seats across the UK on 19% of the vote. FPTP can and does produce such extreme outcomes.

      Delete
    2. The 'number' of seats Reform get are not the main thing with them. They simply want to get themselves and their very interesting financial backers into a position of influence in Holyrood - and of course to help the anti-SNP alleged yes movement worthies crush down the SNP. All working together - but maintaining the 'front' that it's all about independence of course.

      Delete
  9. Lammy should be in The Hague along with Starmer.

    Genocide denying and enabling garbage.

  10. What constitution do you think they would be first ? Isn’t the point in a FPTP system they will lose out at Westminster.

  11. Here is a post I made on SGP.

    Independence for Scotland March 2021

" Voting SNP in the constituency gives a small measure of hope. Replacing Sturgeon with someone like Robertson or Swinney both heavily implicated in wrongdoing and devolutionists will go nowhere. The only hope is that the SNP membership wake up. I'm prepared to give them a chance to get a leadership of the SNP that actually wants independence and does not think an acceptable political strategy to stay in power is to make up sexual allegations to send someone to jail.

If Sturgeon or any of her gang are still in charge at the next election and there has been no referendum then surely even the dead will waken up to what they truly are. This is the last chance saloon - if they don't deliver a referendum then I won't be voting for the SNP at the next election."

Some have woken up - 50,000 members left - but far too many still support the devolutionist leadership that has driven the SNP down to 35% in the polls.

  12. Nigel Farage is facing an Official Westminster Parliamentary Standards Investigation over funding, irregular financial records, and subsidies and donations from certain foreign sources.

In the EU, he faced similar investigations, was found guilty and heavily fined.

  13. It's good to see the Big Dug Mr Kavanagh in his latest blog criticising the GERS report. Pity he took so long to get around to it. As I have been posting for years on SGP why would a party of independence produce a report showing that Scotland has a massive deficit year after year and hand a lovely propaganda weapon to the Britnats on a plate. Anyone remember Sturgeon stating that her pal Derek MacKay SNP Finance Minister would produce a replacement. Yet another broken promise.

For any sensible independence supporter Sturgeon would only feature in a nightmare of horrendous domestic policies and broken promises re independence. Seems like you need to get the tattoo 19/10/23 - save the date to remind you of what a gullible fool you are.

  14. I've been going back over some links, and this one was the advice from Aidan O'Neill to Martin Keatings. It's clearly been overtaken in part by events, but has relevance. It is of course "just" the opinion of a double silk, and much of it was not used in the actual case:

    https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/jdqa8m4oz9dcj5auotd2s/Advice-of-Senior-Counsel-FINAL-at-14-01-2020-at-1218.pdf?rlkey=x0i45bgcrce867fr8w4wthwqd&e=1&dl=0

"4.1 Although, in enacting the Scotland Act 1998, the devolved Scottish Parliament was undoubtedly established by the Union Parliament as a body to which decision-making powers had been delegated, that does not entail that the Scottish Parliament therefore owes its legitimacy to the Union Parliament (or indeed the UK Government).

4.2 The Scottish Parliament was established as a democratically elected legislature with power to make general laws in Scotland. It is directly democratically accountable to the people of Scotland, over whom it exercises its legislative power.
    "

I've removed the exact context from this next bit to make a point that is about that accountability, rather than any power to hold a referendum in itself:

"4.4 ... Regular elections and occasional referendums may be seen to be among the measures required to ensure continued democratic accountability in and legitimacy of a polity."

The previous Section 3: "3. DEMOCRACY AND ACCOUNTABILITY" is very interesting too as a backdrop, but far too long to cut and paste!

    ReplyDelete
  15. Righty. Now to get some sceptic hackles rising, not for the first time, here's an interesting comparison to the above Aidan O'Neill extract from the ScotGov's "Your Right to Decide" page 4:

    https://www.gov.scot/publications/right-decide/pages/4/

"The people of Scotland confer mandates in elections

The Scottish Government’s position is that the decision on whether a referendum should be held ought to be for the Scottish Parliament, empowered to make such decisions by the votes of people who live here.

This is consistent both with precedent, and with the principles of democracy.
    "

    and also:

"The Scottish Government believes that, while the Supreme Court’s decision sets out the legal position as to the Scottish Parliament’s legislative competence, the decision does not affect the existence of a political and constitutional right for the people of Scotland to choose their future, nor prevent a mandate for a referendum being conferred in a Scottish Parliament election."

If I'm giving the game away, tough, errr, luck!

  18. Righty. Haven't bothered with defence for a while so here goes.

"Douglas Alexander says Scottish Government is 'threat to national security'" (The National)

"UK to buy [at least 12] nuclear-capable F-35A fighter jets" (BBC)

"British F-35 role shifts from ‘Tier One’ to specialist ally"

Oh, ooops, what was that? Demotion? D'yall think Uncle Sam wasn't too impressed by just 12, to make a total of 60 odd when the UK was supposed to buy 138 or more?

"Douglas Alexander says Scottish Government is 'threat to national security'"

D'ya want to go home and think again Douglas? Errr, where is home now?

  19. OT: Good luck to the North-East in its bid to host the UK WRC for 2027-2029. HQ in Aberdeen, with rally stages spanning Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire, and Moray. It needs some ScotGov money to allow the councils to also fund it, with a visitor levy to fund it as well. As they say:

Major events, like the World Rally Championships, provide the opportunity to showcase Aberdeen to the world as a place people want to live, work, study and do business.” and Aberdeen could do with it. A sound investment, and a solid international presence.

As a note, WRC uses 100% sustainable fuel. I'll be there :-)
