Scot Goes Popcast Episode 3: Denise Findlay

For Episode 3 of the Scot Goes Popcast, I was joined by Denise Findlay, a former member of the SNP's Conduct Committee, and one of the tactical masterminds behind the 'quiet revolution' at the SNP conference in the autumn, when many of the old guard on the NEC were displaced.  We discussed the supposedly 'bombshell' Survation independence poll, Nicola Sturgeon's evidence to the Holyrood inquiry today, the highly controversial new definition of transphobia, the 'reserved places' scheme for the SNP regional list rankings, various other aspects of SNP internal politics, and why Gerry Fisher is always right about everything.

    2. I wanted to express my surprise that he was still living. I hope he will live long enough to vote in another referendum but I have no faith that Sturgeon or her sycophants will deliver one or even a victory in one.

    1. I think she meant list parties of a sufficient size.

    2. James, It's not necessarily the size of the Indy list parties that is significant, it's the public profile of the candidates.
Also an agreement not to oppose one another is essential.
I think egos could scupper their chances of being seriously considered by voters.
A point also rarely considered is they may have an appeal to Labour voters who back indy and would switch on the list but would never vote SNP.

  3. Hate Crime Humza disgraced the position of Justice secretary yesterday by live tweeting about what Sturgeon was saying during her testimony. For a Justice Secretary to be commenting on anyone giving a testimony on oath just shows the guy has no idea of how to behave as holder of the post. He also joined liars united as he turned up on news shows.

So many people were right to complain about liar Carmichael but now we have an epidemic of liars in the SNP leadership and Scottish government. But to some people lying is only bad when it comes from Britnats. Lying on oath seems to be fine for a lot of SNP members.

  4. Need to wait for coffee time to get a read.

Who'd a thunk this. Brexit has the great British terrorists threatening to blow people up.

It's not like anyone has been saying if you block democracy (by e.g. forcing brexit on NI), violence will follow like night follows day.

But you know what's important is whether Sturgeon first heard about allegations of the allegations on the Thursday or actually heard about them on the Monday.

Northern Irish loyalist paramilitaries withdraw support for 1998 peace deal: Belfast Telegraph

LONDON (Reuters) - Northern Irish loyalist paramilitary organisations told British Prime Minister Boris Johnson they are temporarily withdrawing support for the 1998 peace agreement due to concerns over the Brexit deal, the Belfast Telegraph reported.

  5. If we stay in the UK, we can look forward to British terrorists bombing Glasgow like in the good old days.

  6. Heard Fraser on the radio demanding Sturgeons's head. When such blatant politicking is so evident it is impossible to determine truth. All it does is encourage the manning of barricades. I have no doubt that Fraser, Baillie, Vole-Hamilton and the other one, wrote their conclusion months ago. Whether it will sway the day in the committee I don't know.

If it doesn't and Hamilton clears Sturgeon I have no doubt that the Tory election campaign will still only have two planks. No Referendum and a Trumpian "Jail the Bitch"

I don't do a lot of social media so I can only note a small sample of it but it seems to me that in terms of sentiment Sturgeon had a good day yesterday.

    1. HandandShrimp - " it is impossible to determine truth" - nonsense. It is all there in the submissions to the Inquiry.

    3. 53% Yes

More surprisingly 39% Yes in Wales.

      Boris truly is remarkable. :)

    1. Don't blame Denise for the levels. There were complaints after the first two podcasts that the guests were quieter than I was. The same thing was happening last night, so I asked Denise if there was any way she could come through louder, and we ended up over-compensating. I'll get it right one of these days. Maybe.

    2. Sorry to Denise. I don't know about podcasting tools. I think you want to avoid distortion, so that at least you will have an audio recording that you can adjust the volume of later, because you can't fix distortion. Hopefully some podcasting experts can help.
