Somehow I don't think things will go all pear-shaped and dire, thats just the threats to cause fear and alarm, and not really worth worrying about, except to explain to those that are being frightened, that he lies.Charles O'Brien.https://www.blogger.com/profile/10778040983298966024noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-930120922627919768.post-45794364583184406682014-07-14T20:34:14.855+01:002014-07-14T20:34:14.855+01:00Political discourse can be brutal and remain withi...Political discourse can be brutal and remain within acceptable boundaries.
The word 'scum' was not, of course, used at the meeting. It is used on this blog a few comments above my own.
I will rephrase my comment that McTernan was 'not really challenged' to not successfully challenged.
This was because he came well prepared but also because most of those who challenged him were not so well prepared. Doubtless when he called his Australian colleagues the "c" word, you thought that was fine because he did it in a calm tone of voice - which I'll certainly admit he is expert at maintaining, even when he's clearly seething with anger.

Nobody in the audience called him "scum", or was anything other than respectful - as you'll know if you were in the room.

"His central points, that Scotland had gained from the union and that the SNP's policies are ill-thought out were not really challenged."

You might just as well have claimed that black is white. Those points were relentlessly challenged, as - again - you'll know if you were in the room.

But I'm relieved to hear there was at least one non-Yes voter there. Your worry chimes with the Ian Smart narrative that the Yes meetings are pointless because they are simply a ‘clergy preaching to the choir’ exercise. However (and not surprisingly) Smartypants has hold of the wrong end of the stick. Attending a Yes meeting is not the start of your journey from No to Yes, it comes later in the process. It is more a validation of the journey and marks a sort ‘coming out’ moment in a person’s conversion to Indy.Alasdair Stirlinghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01282612686734280239noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-930120922627919768.post-51108038582987483282014-07-11T19:13:19.530+01:002014-07-11T19:13:19.530+01:00I can never work out if JM is to be pitied more th...I can never work out if JM is to be pitied more than despised. commentorhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10321173541321374705noreply@blogger.com
