The road to independence for Scotland - and the road to nowhere for Douglas Ross

So a couple of 'quick notes' for you tonight.  I have a new article on The National's website about whether Douglas Ross is likely to keep his promise to Michelle Ballantyne to be "Boris backing, Brexit positive, anti-Nat".  You can read it HERE.  Also, I'm quoted (along with John Curtice and Mark Diffley) in Chaminda Jayanetti's new piece for politics.co.uk entitled 'The road to independence: How Covid and Brexit pushed Scotland from the Union' - you can read that HERE.

  1. Both good reads James.

    Number of covid deaths since 5th July (daily data):
    UK = 2086
    Scotland = 3

    Per million people:
    UK = 31.3
    Scotland = 0.6

    UK death rate = 56.3 times that of Scotland per capita.

  2. No arguments from me there. Sadly the tories are masters & the Bread & Circuses. IF covid can be put out of sight ASAP they will come out smelling of roses in the eyes of their party faithful. That 'moving forward' crap I used to here in Team/staff meeting when you pointed out the shite that was decided & did damage done by them before comes to mind! UK continue to report England figures as UK figures. Johnson has made a total bollocks of everything to do with the virus. All he has left is to get his media to try and cover it up as much as possible.

    No regular briefings as previously.
    No comparison graphs between England Wales Scotland N.Ireland and other countries across the world.
    Only basic UK figures now given to hide how bad England is doing compared to Scotland Wales N. Ireland.

    Britnats cannot handle the fact that mother England is being shown to be rubbish compared to Scotland, Wales, N. Ireland. Their brainwashed minds have to believe England is superior in all matters. Evidence to the contrary just explodes their heads.

    England is an Eton mess. England is a bampot Britnat Brexiteer mess.

  9. In an odd sort of way current political developments are making things clearer.
    Johnson and his purged tory party with its self destructive brexit and Covid incompetence underline the uselessness of the UK.

    Sturgeon's government demonstrates that Scotland is well able to govern itself much more competently.

    The SNP NECs self created rammy shows the party, of which I am a member, to be alarmingly similar to the rest in its top level obsessions with self interest and self advancement.

    Conclusions - 1. independence is as ever the best road into the future for our country;
    2. Vote SNP for now but after indy all previous agreements are off.

She has accused Alyn Smith of “consistently refusing to condemn the frequent vile abuse spouted on social media” and has claimed both that Steven Paterson was blocked from being chosen democratically and that moves have been afoot to deselect her as a council candidate.

  12. Cases will rise when more social iteration is allowed. Thats how virus is spread. You cant pick up the virus from a person in a pub if the pub is shut. As soon as the pubs open then there is a risk of the virus spreading in the pubs. This has happened all over the world - increased social interaction = increased cases; not a huge shock that it has happened in Scotland as well. Of course masks help stop the level of infection increasing even more, thats the purpose of wearing them.

    Thankfully this increase in infections has not as yet lead to an jump in the number of deaths (34 deaths in Scotland over the last month).

      It's what I've said all along; the better contained the virus is, the more deaths will be confined to the highest risk groups (elderly) in the highest risk setting (close quarters care homes).
