The SNP leadership should just chill out and stop trying to artificially obstruct Joanna Cherry's bid to become an MSP

  1. I don't agree with Joanna's views on SelfID, before all that cropped up I thought she would be a good natural success to Nicola

Let's hope the two don't emulate Tony and Gordon - as it won't end well

    1. I think it's important that both sides of this particular debate are well represented in the parliamentary SNP.

It will ensure issue is resolved sensibly, with good policy emerging. The strongest policy which best represents the public always comes through debate (often heated) which eventually leads to cross camp consensus/compromise.

  2. It's probably against the rules but I bet if Joanna Cherry was to crowdfund for the £10.000 she'd achieve that amount in a couple of hours.

  3. As for dual positions.

Are people for real? Scots are not allowed by the English to hold senior cabinet positions, even if they are unionist. The PM has openly said live on TV that blacks should be barred from being PM. Sorry, Jews should be barred. Oops, no I mean Scots; him saying the former two would be scandalous, but 'scots are vermin', so that's fine.

Scots MPs might as well be fucking lepers for all the racists scot haters down in Westminster care.

I wouldn't give a shit if all our MPs were also MSPs and devoted their time to Hollyrood, just voting to disrupt that shithole in London whenever they could, remotely if possible. It's not as if Scots are allowed to make UK laws or something.

    1. Gove is Scottish. Tony Blair is Scottish. Gordon Broon is Scottish. Skier would like to be Scottish that is why he is a sour puss.

    2. Broon's Scottish. You are going to have to provide some evidence for the other two.

But there can't be another Broon with EVEL; Boris has made that clear.

    3. And I am 100% legally Scottish. I have the documents to prove it.

Gove has no such documentation. Neither does Blair.

      Delete
    4. You said you were Irish have you converted. How do you know what documentation Gove and Blair have. Boris has as sense of humour which is severely lacking amongst Nat sis.

    5. I'm a dual citizen. Scottish and Irish.

If Gove and Blair are not registered to vote here, they are not legally Scottish.

    7. That is a documentation scenario. You are either Scottish or not.

    10. Scottish Skier - I usually rate your comments but to say if you're not registered to vote in Scotland you're not Scottish??? "If Gove and Blair are not registered to vote here, they are not legally Scottish" Rubbish.
I am born and bred Scottish. To Scottish parents and they had Scottish parents etc going well back. I AM Scottish. I don't live in Scotland though. But I am, and always will be, Scottish. No one can take that away from me.

    11. You may be Scottish in identity, but not legally.

Only adults on the electoral roll in Scotland are Scottish citizens, legally.

There is no such thing as legal Scottish nationality. It does not exist and has so no definition.

For a Scottish nationality to exist, Scotland must be an independent, sovereign state, so able to confer that on people.

For now, only citizenship can be conferred by current legal residence and entitlement to vote in Scottish elections. This comes with other duties such as paying Scottish tax rates, jury services in the Scots courts etc.

If someone in your position supports Scottish independence, I think it’s fair to say they are of Scottish nationality, at least in their hearts. They can claim to be Scottish in as my wife is French.

If they oppose independence – ergo oppose a legal Scottish nationality existing – then they can’t claim to be a Scottish national. If someone says 'I'm French, the unionist must say 'I'm British', for that is the nationality / citizenship they support.

At most Scottish for unionists them is not a nationality, but a simply a Great British regional identity.

Jackson Carlaw quits as Scottish Conservative leader

Jackson Carlaw has resigned as the leader of the Scottish Conservatives after only six months in the job.

Mr Carlaw said he had come to the "painful conclusion" that he was not the best person to lead the case for Scotland remaining in the UK ahead of next year's Holyrood election.

    3. I'm sure Scots will be chuffed to get some of their own oil cash back. When's it coming?

      Delete
    4. It is legally UK oil and revenue. It would be amusing if substantial amounts of oil was discovered near the Isle of Wight. I would say that Scots voting for independence does not hand the oil revenues over to Scotland. The present owner the UK is still historically the legal owner.

    11. Grumpy Wittering Cringer, so you think that Scottish oil is "historically owned" by England? It's worthless, quoth you previously straight out of the BritNat script book, but now you would willingly cede it - in thought at least - to England in perpetuity. What a self-abasing Uriah Heap. A shameless traitorous plunker. Well, it ain't gonna happen. No precept in international law.

As for pulling two salaries, I didn't ever see you object to Prof "Two Jobs" Tomkins, hypocrite. Just like Carless, he can clearly see that the game's up. It's merely a question of time.

This independence game is all topsy-turvy. The captains are first to abandon ship, while the rats like you are clinging to the railings to the bitter end!

      Glug, glug...

      Delete
    12. "Wooly [sic] Plunker", who exactly are "we" and "you" here? You write in Scottish demotic, so you seem to be very confused and identity dislocated. (Not rare among the thankfully miniscule if vociferous rabid BritNat zoomer community, alas.) Something to do with Stockholm Syndrome, I expect.

But then, Mr Bountiful, maybe you are the one to finally explain why "we" are so archetypically bitterly unhappy to have to expend precious funds upon "you" Scottish ingrates, while simultaneously so very desperately, desperately anxious to hang on to "you" Scottish would-be escapees...?

(No? Well, that would be no surprise. Mental gymnastics are really not the forte of the seriously confused, are they?)

  5. Why does a party with 125,000 members need to fine its own MP's for switching to the Scottish Parliament?
Sitting in Westminster when Johnson has a majority of 80 is a waste of considerable talent on the SNP benches.
Nae surprise a few are getting homesick for the rammy that will surely come next May.
As for Carlaw - was he pushed or was he shoved.
Seems Ross Thompson is already strapping on his parachute as we speak.

  9. Honestly?

To be an MP (and the salary it brings) is a genuine privilege. For any fair and decent person that should be be self-evident.

If Cherry genuinely wanted to be in Holyrood as opposed to Westminster then she had an opportunity to it stand in 2019. But she didn’t, and you have to question her values and self-interest.

But she’s supposed to representing her constituents, and in turn bringing the argument to her Home Office brief. When do you ever see her making headlines for blows landed against the Tories?

I think Cherry should be focusing her fire on Priti Patel rather than game planning routes of her own career.

  10. Don't let the poisonous idiot GWC (et al) distract from the main point here.

It's striking how bitterly factionalised the very small group of tories at Holyrood is. A sign of chronic weakness and fear at the prospect of next May's election for which their polling is giving them beautifully shite numbers.

Our priorities are to maximise the indy vote in difficult circumstances and loudly emphasise the clashes between the tories so helping them to bite and claw at eachother even more effectively.
It's easy to get disgusted and angry about GWC. He is an ignorant and irrelevant tosser. Smack him once each time he vomits onto this site then ignore him.Don't engage - move on.

Tory self interest dressed up as British unity.
BTW, Keith Brown needs to up his game.
How low key was his response to Douglas Ross punting himself for the Tory branch office job. Get angry Keith!
Question, will Douglas Ross just stand for the Moray seat or will he be on the list too? and what's the betting he'll get an easy ride from Leonard and Rennie.
