The new West Lothian Question is how badly Labour are going to do in West Lothian

So a few miscellaneous things.  Firstly, I have two new constituency previews in The National, this time about constituencies either wholly or partly in West Lothian - Livingston and Linlithgow & East Falkirk.

Secondly, I was asked to comment about Alex Salmond for an article on the Al Jazeera website by Alasdair Soussi.  I did my best to put the situation in its correct perspective.  You can read it HERE.

Finally, and on the same topic, could I please ask again that people in the comments section of this blog avoid any discussion of the details of the Alex Salmond trial.  Obviously I'm not a legal expert, but as I understand it, all speculation about the facts of the case is strictly forbidden.  So I'm having to be ruthless and delete comments of that sort when I see them.

  1. IN that Aly Jersey article, it states that Scots rejected statehood by 55 - 45.

You know as well as the rest of us that Scots voted in the majority for yes. 600,000 english and 200,000 other EU voters swung it for no.

Also the daly rectum is still available should anyone want to read the ful gory details of the encounter in Bute house. Why is davy, Ulster is british no surrender FTSNP, clegg not being charged with contempt of court? If repeating the contents of his articles in public risks contempt then surely he must be bang to rights?

    1. Speculation can be contempt of court, reporting of court documents and proceedings is not.

      So you can say:

Joe Blogs has been today accused with xx accounts of xx. The charges say that between the xx and the xx he did xxx

What you can't do is speculate- ie say reasons why you think he must / must not be guilty or deviate from the recorded facts in any other way.

  2. I have my own, strongly held, opinions about the Salmond trial, how it came about and who is bringing it to court. The verdict will be irrelevant. I will not be changing them.

    1. Could the evidence change your opinions?

    2. If you bang your drum loud enough wear your sash and pray the judge is one of yours and as biased and bitter mibbees you'll have a chance, evidence has nothing to do with this

    3. I have my own strongly held opinions about people who have strongly held opinions and who clearly have made their mind up about a trial before they have heard any of the evidence.

    4. In a court case, only people on the jury have the right to conclude on innocence vs guilt based on the evidence presented.

Nobody else should do this. They will never have the full picture, nor the ability to discuss the case at length with other jurors, revisit items of evidence etc. It is not possible for the to make a fair judgement.

So no, 'the evidence should not change people's opinions', not unless they are a member of the jury. Everyone else must accept in principle the decision of the jury, subject to any subsequent appeals.

    5. Your man there says the decision of the jury wouldn't change his opinion either, so...

    6. May I point out that my statement does not indicate which side of this I am on. Our host has asked we don't speculate about the case, which severely limits the responses I can give here. If James so wishes, we can revisit this after the trial. In the meantime, I advise people not to speculate about what I'M thinking, be it unionist or nationalist.

1987 papers reveal 'MI5 plot to kill Irish PM Haughey'

The Brits literally tried to murder the PM of my (other) country in cold blood during peace time.

If you are a threat to the British state, watch your back.

First they'll try to smear people / destroy their reputations. If that doesn't work, they'll try to prevent people voting. If that doesn't work either, then they'll start shooting at you.

  6. From day one I always believed that the sexual misconduct allegations against Julian Assange pursued by Swedish prosecutors at great length and at great public expense were politically motivated and had no basis in fact. Turns out I was right. Just sayin'.

  7. James, in the Al Jazeera article the bit about 'Sturgeon's government'. I'm sure I don't need to explain here why that is incorrect.

  8. Apparantly Al Jazeera are allegedly associated with the Muslim Brotherhood who promote an Islamic fascist compliant world. Just like Adolf and his 3rd Reich. I can appreciate why the Scottish Nat sis would mention this bunch of dictators.

  9. SNP win the Aberdeen local by-election with a 11% increase in first preference votes. There seems to be a pattern forming when looking at last week's results.

  10. Interesting to see a woman dressed as a letterbox attack the PM for his comments mocking people for dressing like letterboxes.

It is one of those instances where leftards prove just how left and tard they are.

The overwhelming majority of the population agree that burkas and niqabs are ridiculous, offensive, demeaning to women and insulting to men and have no place in a civilised society.

Tiny group of outrage police think they are fine and those women in Iran being beaten and imprisoned for removing their slave veils in public have it coming to them.

Remember when labour put out a poster with Cameron as Gene Hunt, at that time the most popular character on TV?

This is the same thing. Within their little bubble of woketards everyone agrees this is hateful behaviour so we'll use it to attack our enemies even though it just reminds the public that they actually agree with the views of the person they are being instructed to hate.

Chagos Islands dispute: UK misses deadline to return control

The UK has been called an illegal colonial occupier by Mauritius after it ignored a deadline to return control of an overseas territory to the island nation.

The UN had given the UK six months to give up control of the Chagos Islands - but that period has now passed.

In the absence of a Section 30 requested by Holyrood, the UK would also be forcefully occupying Scotland, complete with troops on the ground at various bases.

    1. "The UN said that the decolonisation of Mauritius "was not conducted in a manner consistent with the right to self-determination" and that therefore the "continued administration... constitutes a wrongful act".

Refusing to recognise the right of Scotland to self determination would also be a wrongful act. Scotland is a commonwealth country and has the right to independence just as they all have.

    2. If England is willing to murder the PM of Ireland in peacetime, while forcibly occupying other people's islands against the will of the international courts, taking down 'regional' Scots politicians who stand in their way would be small beer.
