New ICM poll is hammerblow for Dugdale...sorry, I mean Rowley...sorry, I mean 'Position Vacant'

Confusion reigns today over whether the role of interim Scottish Labour leader is now completely vacant or occupied by Jackie Baillie (and indeed confusion also reigns over whether we'd be able to tell the difference between those two possibilities).  One thing remains constant, though - there's no sign of any joy for Scottish Labour in the opinion polls.  The SNP are back up to 4% of the Britain-wide vote for only the second time in any ICM poll conducted since the general election, and the Scottish subsample shows the following: SNP 40%, Conservatives 27%, Labour 20%, Liberal Democrats 6%, Greens 5%, UKIP 1%.  This is the twentieth subsample in a row across all firms to put the SNP in first place.

Of course no individual subsample should be regarded as reliable given the small sample size, but for what it's worth the ICM poll is the first straw in the wind since we were all royally entertained by the affectations of outrage over Alex Salmond's TV show.  So the very earliest indications are that the SNP's detractors may have to find a line of attack that is more promising than "Salmond is almost as bad as Kim Philby" (which is something that Channel 4 News presenter Jon Snow actually said out loud last night!).

  2. That Jon Snow interview was shocking. They're really scared of him, aren't they?

    1. They are indeed terrified that their demonising of Alex Salmond will be shown for what it is, character assination by the UK state. The 'interview' was a disgrace. Jon Snow has gone down totally in my book, I thought he had more journalistic integrity at the least.

  3. Jocko Nat sis rejoicing they have won the battle over booze. Increasing profits for the makers.
An additional tax on the product going directly to the NHS would have been an idea.

  5. it's in the diary, AS with the Catalan President ... it's classic !!, I believe that all this "hoopla" with AS being branded "Traitor" will totally backfire on the right-wing media (BBC included) to the point that ordinary folk of all parts of the UK will want to listen to a man that the "Establishment" are so patently afraid of !! ..... great info, as usual, James

  6. I caught the show at 07:30 this morning - I thought it was pretty damn good. What a coup, getting Puigdemont on - och, I'd better not say anything more, I don't want to give out any spoilers. Well worth watching. I think it will improve, too, I don't think they've quite hit their stride yet, but it was a very promising beginning. It also included some severe criticism by AS of [censored - no spoilers allowed!]

Thanks for the info too, James. I have been worried that support for SNP / independence might be flagging. One thing I would like to know: of the 27% whose voting intention for Westminster is Labour, how many would vote Yes to independence? The reverse might apply to SNP for Westminster voters, I suppose, though surely there can't be very many who are so conflicted! (Yes, I do know what I just said.)

It seems to me that the pro-Labour for Westminster / pro-SNP for Holyrood / pro-independence demographic has become very significant. Basically, how strong is the Labour for Independence vote? I would love to hear your thoughts on this, if you think it's a worthwhile thing to think about, and a reasonable question.
