It was convincing, it was captivating...and it was Corbyn (again)

Apologies for recycling my John Motson-inspired headline from last year, but it seems appropriate because Labour have just recycled last year's leadership election result...

Labour leadership election 2016 :

Jeremy Corbyn 61.8% (+2.3)
Owen Smith 38.2% (n/a)

    1. Does anyone actually know what their 'day jobs' are?
Personally, I thought their sole purpose in life was to fight among themselves while shouting an occasional "SNP Baaad".

  2. The Blairites are not going to go quietly because they have nowhere else to go.
Their New Labour party is now going in a direction alien to their ideology (that being gaining power at any cost by saying and promising anything).
Good luck to JC in England, who knows England might eventually decide they have had enough of Thatcher's voodoo economics and elect a social democratic government but I won't be holding my breath on that one.

    1. That is the fascinating bit about this story.

Locally, it is going to be interesting, to say the least, to see who is a candidate for Westminster or even Hollyrood, after this. I suspect a lot of dead wood will be flung out.

      Just saying.

  3. To unite, or not unite, that is Kezia's question,
Whether 'tis nobler in her mind, for Corbyn to suffer,
The slings and backstabbing of outraged Blairites
Or, to lead his Party against a sea of Tories
    And by opposing, end them.
To die----to sleep no more; to show all Red Tories out the door.
    To sleep, perchance to dream---
of Scotland, shuffling off this Unions mortal coil. Patience.
This undiscovere'd country, soon, to join the World of Nations.

  4. I'm on holiday too. I see from twitter that there is a Sunday Times/Panalbase poll with the SNP polling at 50%.

    2. Appears to be:
      SNP 50%
      Tories 21%
      Labour 16%
      Lib Dem 5%
      Greens 4%
      UKIP 4%

Hypothetical GE result: 56 SNP, 2 Tory, 1 Lib Dem

    3. Next GE in 4 years, Next Holyrood election in 5 years. Polls at this point are fairly useless. At the same point in the cycle in earlier parliaments, they have been way off.

  7. Bad news for Scottish independence!

Theresa May is now virtually guaranteed to stay in power for a time period comparable to Maggie Thatcher or Tony Blair - provided she can see off the separatists. I expect her to double down on defeating them or at least tying their hands - and in doing so ensure that she stays in for the duration rather than being forced to fall on her sword in a couple of years like Salmond or Cameron.

When was the last time, to your mind, there was GOOD news for Scottish independence?

    2. Going by the present internal state of the Tory Party, I would give May a couple of years at most, before she gets stabbed in the back.

As Brexit/Art 50 continues to be kicked into the long grass, half of that party are seething and half are praying.

And........the vast majority are about to expire anyway.

Stabbin in the back is in the job spec. And why do you Nat sis wish the give Frau Merkel economic power over Scotland? It is clear Germany is leading the EU. The Germans have strangled the working class in Greece and dictate to Italy and you Nat sis want to hand Scotland in a plate over to the Bundesbank.

Isnt she the "Capo" of the Conservative and Separatist Party?

    6. I see the idiot Britnat si, gwc2, has escaped yet again. Can they not permanently sedate the patient?

  8. I would think that the thought of a 'permanent' Tory government would actually make independence even more attractive to many more Scots.

    1. As long as "British" Labour can dangle the prospect of a social democratic government being elected to power in England, they will be able to fool some Scots into voting for them.
Fortunately a diminishing band of delusionists.
The purpose of ALL the "British" political parties in Scotland is to maintain England's domination of our affairs and preserve the British state.

    2. The problem is a vote for independence is a vote for conservatism. To paraphrase The Proclaimers:

      Free prescriptions no moah
      Free higher education no moah
Toll free bridges and roads no moah
      Benefits no moah
      Decent public services no moah

    3. No, Aldo. Independence is a vote for self government---the ability to raise and spend our moneys as WE want.
Why is "Engurland" so keen to keep us in servitude to themselves?

    4. gavin - that is exactly the question we need to keep asking -"Why is Scotland SO important to England"??

Are they really so altruistic that they want to keep financially 'carrying' Scotland - OR is there something they ain't telling us?

  9. Anonymous @ 11.01 am, AKA Aldo,

The actual lyrics are these, with my parenthetical comments added:

    I've looked at the ocean
    Tried hard to imagine
The way you felt the day you sailed
From Wester Ross to Nova Scotia.

[Shame? A new beginning? A colonialist endeavor? Who knows what the folk that deserted this land thought. It was possibly a desire for a genuine break from the UK. On that basis, I commend them.]

[Lots of us did, sadly for us, perhaps not so sadly for them

    We should have held you
    We should have told you

But you know our sense of timing
    We always wait too long.

    [Too true]

When you go will you send back a letter from America?

[it is a wonderful place, ripped off of it's inhabitants by disease and the bullet. Such were our ancestors...]
