Why build another wall? Oh why build another wa-all?

I travelled through Calais yesterday.  At first it looked much the same as ever, but it soon became clear that the maze of security fences has been vastly reinforced since last year.  And then I saw 'the Jungle'.  Obviously I've seen pictures of it before, but it's quite a shock to the system to see it in real life, partly because of its sheer scale, and partly because it's so out of context with its surroundings - there are middle-class residential houses just behind it.

It really has to be asked - where are Malcolm Offord and 'Vote No Borders' when you need them?  It's high time they went to Calais to remake their life-affirming 'Why Build Another Wall?' video, this time featuring Syrian refugees on the French side chopping their way through the security fences with hacksaws, and Tory councillors from Buckinghamshire doing their bit on the UK side with cutting torches.  When they meet in the middle, they high-five each other, embrace, then hold hands as they joyously jog through the Channel Tunnel, before having a picnic together in the beautiful Kent countryside.

I'm sure Mr Offord would agree that his inspirational 'no borders' vision is for the whole of humanity, not just the Jocks.  Why SHOULD Tory councillors from Buckinghamshire be prevented from spending quality time with Syrian refugees, just because of another bloody wall?

  1. It was supposed to be a Yes vote that would cause all these border problems.

Wonder when the No voters will realise how much they were conned?

  2. Why does a Quebecois that lives in Scotland - and hopes and dreams of Scottish independence - interfere in English matters? Tad inconsistent methinks...! ;)

    1. Good morning, Fluffy. I was going to say "it's been too long", but in fact it hasn't been long enough. You do realise I had just one French-Canadian grandmother - is that enough to make me Quebecois? This is turning into the Nazi racial laws.

And UK immigration policy is scarcely an 'English matter' in this border-free country of ours.

The English may well impose a border on their side as they are entitled to do in the event of Scotland leaving the Union. Scotland may well blaim the English for all their woes but you will never dictate to them.

    3. Like the ones they have on the Irish border?

  3. Why would anyone think that England was a welcoming nation. That's the part that baffles me. Look at how us Jocks get treated during the referendum. Demonised and now our nation is being vandalised.

Beware the wrath of Britania when you don't comply.

Have you heard of Corby? London? Manchester? Carlise?Liverpool?. Scots everywhere in England and you Nat sis want to cause us problems with your hate of the English. You are a bunch of narrow back hate spinners.

    2. Well, now we know where it is OK we can go.

      Thanks GWC.

Could you provide a similar road map for refugees?

Personally I would be happy if some of them came here, but you say:

      "and you Nat sis..."

I have no idea what that is meant to mean.

Sometimes GWC it would be better if you refrained from speech, else you confirm your mendacity. Silence would have left room for doubt.

      Sadly, you did not.

I do have some mendacity on occasion. And a sense of humour.

  6. In other news, our old friend Craig Murray has been rejected again as an SNP candidate, this time for Holyrood. I must admit I'm disappointed by this decision as I would have loved to have seen such a liability stand as an SNP candidate. Alas, it seems that the SNP once again have proven themselves to have more thorough vetting procedures than the UK foreign office. Dammit.

    1. Be fair, he probably hadn't demonstrated his unsuitability quite so publicly when the FO ballsed-up their selection procedures.

The historical fact is Scotland would be an isolated feudal country run by fuckin feudal clan chiefs and the Argyll Catholic Church if the idiots were not defeated at Culloden. We should celebrate Cumberland.

    1. Good to see you are cementing your status on here as an impotent, little, inconsequential, Unionist ass-wipe.

The historical fact is that you are nothing more than a very pathetic unionist Troll, who has been ridiculed everywhere else and is now being ridiculed here.

You are about as relevant to Scotland's future as a wet fart is to a tampon manufacturer.

You do wear a tampon, don't you?

      Lol!

    2. By which comment you show your ignorance of history, and of Scotland's place in that history. Scotland was a reformed country - which England never was - long before Culloden. There was no chance of Catholicism being re established after the rebellion failed. You have bought into one of those lies we get from the elite. Too poor, too stupid, etc.

Why don't you think about the present and the future. You live in a country which tolerates your Pastor Jack world view. The feudalism left is that perpetuated by a system of land ownership which an independent Scotland would have seen the back of years ago. The pinnacle of which is your monarch and the members of the unelected Lords.

Join us in making a better Scotland for all who live here. And try to think before you hit publish.

  8. Not quite sure what James is getting at here. Is he honestly suggesting that if you oppose a Scotland-England border then you should also oppose a UK-French border? One is not a logical extension of the other. The UK-French border is a potential point of access for a huge chunk of the third world, including Islamic extremists.
